Planet will be just fine despite what we do to it.
Our life and other life forms is another matter all together. Yet to the planet I really think it could care less about us or anything we think we can really do to it. |
The planet is about to explode you said, so why should anyone care?
http://images.customize.org/category...net1-1_big.jpg See you in the next world... ADG Webmaster P.S. I rode the light rail to work today since it is a "spare the air" day here - free rides on mass transit. |
What the hell would driving an SUV have to do with the planet exploding?
|
Its a bit too late to be bitching dont you think?
|
Now that i live in South America i do notice some energy differences..you never see a V6, in the condos they have motion lights in the hallways to save energy with energy efficient bulbs it seems like they are more efficient in those ways...

The new SUV's get better mileage.
|
I currently have about 8 compact flourescent bulbs in place of regular 60 watt bulbs.
If every household in America alone changed ONE bulb to a compact flourescent, the CO2 emissions savings is equal to 1 million cars being off the road. Every year. I picked mine up for $5.99 for 3. Plus a couple of specialty sizes for a bit more. Well worth it. |

I will continue to drive my monster truck that gets 3 miles per gallon.
And you can blow me. |
Ill respond in a bit. Have to go fill up my 23 gallon tank on my grand cherokee.

People that buy SUVs - unless they live in the Austrialian outback or somewhere that you NEED an SUV -- are doing nothing more than compensating for a small, tiny, shriveled up little dick. |
Common sense would have been an abortion, years ago.

We the sheep could never had made a difference anyway, its nothing other than greed on behalf of the oil companies that have led us to this point. The oil companies won't even consider using alterative fuels globally until there is no more oil left in the ground.

just because you're too broke to afford a nice ride don't take it out on the rest of us
|
the increase in the amount of coal china will burn from last year to this year will have an effect greater than another 3 billion SUVs being driven in the US
but we're the problem. |
I use fluorescent lightbulbs, I open the windows and turn on the ceiling fun if it's not too hot, instead of running the AC, and I don't litter.
But I do own a big ass truck, and I love it! |
your the next bubble boy

bwahah not driving suv's is going to save the planet ? i think not..
This issue is always a funny one because people forget what happened before humans were here. Before humans were around oil seeped up through the ground and would sit in puddles on the surface , ( you can still see this in places like texas and khazikstan ) eventually it would get hit by lightning and burn for months and months even years at a a time, with no "sensors" or "pollution controls" zip zero nada , there was nobody to put out the flames . so all that shit just burtned up into the air anyways.. |

I think Mexicans are the #1 cause of global warming today. Their bean filled food products make us all emit CO2 at an incredible rate. If we allow them to keep creating their delicious foodstuffs then our planet is going to spiral out of control and catch on fire and everybody will die. Oh fucking well, pass me a burrito.

seriously its getting fucking unbearably hot :(

Not true. A full size sedan can equally accomodate such a family. As well as a CUV. (crossover utility vehicle) like this one: http://www.sfondideldesktop.com/Imag...ta-Fe-0001.jpg http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/H...ages/Hatch.jpg http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/H...ages/Hatch.jpg See lots of room. We picked one of these up a month ago. Fuel milleage on the 2.7 litre V6 is not much more than a civic. And plenty powerful. Comfortable like any other suv, actually impossible to roll if you get Trac Control. Even the 3.5 litre with all wheel drive only does 2mpg worse in real world consumption. There are plenty of vehicles liek this by many manufacturers. So there's no excuse for driving V8 powered 8-14mpg SUVs other than ignorance and "don't give a fuck" attitudes. |

The serious answer is because many people are self-centered, clueless and in some ways, greedy. While nothing is perfect, many nations have agreed on an avenue forward using Koyoto as a framework. Several have already dramatically reduced emissions - other are progressing reasonably well with purchasing/swapping "pollution tokens" (particularly China who prob will be a main offender in future years). A few "third world countries" have progressed very well and have eg 50% of their oil requirement being generated by alternative sources. Sadly, sadly, sadly, once again, trailing the bottom of the scale we have the US still consuming 25% of the worlds resources with only 5% pro rata population - and little to show in any progress towards reducing consumption. In effect, this is equivalent to stealing the resources of others who share this planet. It is ironic, but hardly a surprise, that the US rejected Koyoto - the requirement for mom not to have a V6 truck to drive the kids to school would be too heartbreaking. A few years ago I revisited one valley in Texas - ecologically it was like a national park on the first visit - very rich. On the second visit, the entire area was decimated, - trees barely existed and the valley had a massive cloud of pollution overhead (apparently from refining and chemical plants). It is sad that the US keeps looking at greenbacks as tho they are the ultimate resource, while neglecting a very rich environment and gradually (tho not too gradual in some areas) destroying this. The prime resource was never a dollar - it is the environment you live in and the quality lifestyle this can give both now and in future generations. The money paid for your SUV was only part payment - the rest was never paid by you, but taken from your enironment where you stole from others and future generations. |

I would also like to add the reason he would ever ride in an SUV or fly on a plane is because it was 'going that way anyway'. Thats probbaly the best one I've heard. |

Here's an excuse for me driving full-size SUVs: I hate driving slow vehicles with no horsepower or torque. Here's another: I like being able to tow my boat if I want to take it out of town. Yet another: If you own your own company, a full-size SUV (over 6000lb gvwr) provides a nice tax break. There are a LOT more reasons as to why I prefer full-size over miniature, but these illustrate the point. Just because some people have no use for something, doesn't mean other people don't. Also, just out of curiosity: If there was a head-on collision between a Ford Excursion and a Hyundai Santa Fe... which vehicle would you rather be in? |
