Members cancel too quick?

HI im doing some testing at my paysite, and sofar the results have been "OK" but not great, im offering both a 10$ 7day trial and a full monthly fee.. It seems like many of the people who buy a Trial cancel right after they bought it, I know the members area is good, so I would like to know if this is normal? Is there anything I can do to atleast make them spend the full 7 days before they cancel.. itīs like they are affraid or something.

Regards
Nick

$10 bucks is way 2 much for a trial..

try $1.99

xxxtera 06-07-2002 09:22 AM

I did that to get rid off the freeloaders... im getting a good amount of these sales.. its just weird that like 20% cancel right away...

Darren 06-07-2002 09:26 AM

the average is 40% are retained. if only 20% cancel then u have 80% retained which is great.

Ur price for trial is fine in my oppinion, maybe a 5 day 7.95 one would work well as well.

lets see ur member section

u base that statement on?

xxxtera 06-07-2002 09:30 AM

Darren: More cancel later on, but the 20% seems to be initial, and I think thats odd, since I donīt promise anything I canīt deliver on the tour ect. if they just cancel to see if actually possiple, then they should atleast wait some days unless they just throw $$ out of the window.. right?

experience..

look - if the trial is $10 - that is almost the same as many full memberships - that offer for $14 or $19 - to the buyer they sound simular - over $10

the trial should be a trial - $2 for 2 days or $3 for 3 -etc..
that actually fits the meaning of a trial a lot more that $10 price point..

LoveAsianChicks 06-07-2002 09:34 AM

What makes more money:
1.99 3day trial / 39.95 monthly recurring.

Or simply:
$19.95 monthly recurring. (no trial)

To be honest I'm not sure, but the second route would greatly reduce freeloaders.
If I ever get a paysite started I'd go the second route but who knows.

i disagree, if a they signup for a 2 day trial at $2 they are more likely to cancel straight away because they know they only have 2 dayz, 3 dayz is too short as well, min should be 5, or 7 dayz. that is if ur member section is quality. If not dont bother with trials just charge $25 off the bat

why not use both routes, offer them membership at 19.95 a month then if they dont take the bait offer them a trial on exit, with an higher recurring cost.

SR 06-07-2002 09:39 AM

Trials mostly suck but I have one on exit.
On the mainpage I only offer a full month membership but if they don't like it they can pick a 3 day trial on the exit site.
About 20% still goes for the trial on exit... about 45% of them recurs.
I think it's the best way.... This way you make more money because they wouldn't have paid for the full month right away.

Goonx 06-07-2002 09:40 AM

Hey, I had the exact same problem -> I initialy did a 7 day trial too, thinking that by the time it ends they are gonna forget about their membership, but NO. So I switched to a 3 day trial and sales realy improved since a much higher precentage got rebilled before they had a chance to cancel. And obviously your not gonna charge $10 for it. $2.95 seems to be working.

If you want some quick cash, than just do a 1 day trial, but it's not gonna last for long.

The point is, that 7 days is way too long, you'll have to wait at least 2 month before seeing any results. With a 3 day trial youl start seein results in a week.

Hope this helps... :thumbsup

thanks for all the replies :-)

I was expecting that when you pay for a week full access, they would use that week and judge the site instead of just cancel it right away! It makes no sense...... *Confused* it must be that many have very bad experiences with adult sites that just keeps charging you..but why do they signup in the first place..hehe??

Iīll try that 3 day trial for a while...

People decide if they want to stay the first two minutes they visit your members area. Thats the real trial peroid for them. So unless you give them a good reason to stay (Like exclusive stuff and stuff they never saw before...) they are gonna cancel and move on to next trial site. You just need to have enough stuff to keep them busy for at least 3 days, than, is they got rebilled after three days, than there is a good chance that they are gonna stay for a wile.

Another important thing is to make sure you billing company does NOT send each member a "reminder" before they are gonna get rebilled or after they have been rebilled.

Good luck :thumbsup

that makes sense i guess :)

Well, it's easier than to keep them busy for 7 days.:)

That's a great idea. I got rid of my trial memberships a long time ago. The flat $19.95 per month works much much better. But I never even thought of offering a trial on exit. I'll have to give it a try. (get it? try the trial... lol... bad joke)

And who said this board wasn't useful?!

sweetcuties 06-07-2002 11:18 AM

Get rid of the $7.95 for 5 days and tighten it up to 3 days. If you have exclusive content, they'll stay longer... trust me! http://www.sweetcuties.com/joinsc.html

xxxtera 06-07-2002 11:24 AM

sweetcuties: what % of your trials convert to full monthly?

charging $25 or $35 off the bat is the best way for long term people.. the purpose of trials is simply a numbers game of who remembers to wants to keep their membership and who forgets to cancel because they where not serious in the first place to buy a full membership..

sweetcuties 06-07-2002 11:28 AM

xxxtera - I'd say approx 40% like someone said earlier. The reason is exclusive content and I update twice a week (Sun/Wed) If you're not gonna update, there's no incentive for someone to stick around. With dsl/broadband, surfers can download your members area within a few hours.

Just my thoughts:thumbsup

kmanrox 06-07-2002 11:44 AM

i know some people in the hardcore niche that only convert 20-25%, and they claim to have exclusive content and lots of feeds....

JConway 06-07-2002 03:25 PM

add my stories, your retention is for sure to go up :)

foe 06-07-2002 04:24 PM

looks to me like your retentions are actually above industry average, there is nothign you cna do in the end to keep people from canceling, a certain percentage will always leave

maxsweet 06-07-2002 05:04 PM

CCBills new system actually logs cancel reasons from departing members and a large portion of these people only join for the trial and don't have any intention of staying no matter how much your members area kicks ass...

They just need a couple days access to get off while the wife's visiting her sister :Graucho

Brown Bear 06-07-2002 05:26 PM

When I join paysites this is what I do:

1. I join the trial.

2. I jerk off.

3. After I CUM A HUGE LOAD I download as much of the content as possible to look at while jerking off later.

4. I cancel.

Porn surfers get smarter all the time.... They soon figure out that you can sign up for 2.95 or whatever, cancel right away, and still have three days of access. THOSE type of signups from those type of surfers will never convert, and well, I don't give trials for this reason.

To each his own.
