are u advertising using P2P? Anyone Duplicate p2pads yet ??
I've been interested in p2p for a long time, just never got the time to get into it and figure out the best way to do it.
Everytime I see a p2pads post it reminds me I need to get into this. Has anyone had success doing what they do. What do you think my chances would be to try to get 1,000,000 hits a day from p2p. How much do you think it would cost to do it (intial setup, not opperational expenses)? Obviously these questions would be geared towards the people who are actually making money from it. I am not asking for any insider information here, just some general questions. |
takes a lot of money and even more servers to get stuff rolling, ive tried...we would need like at least 1-2 hundred servers running initially to get files out there
|
if it was that easy, everyone would be doing it...

how did it go, are you still doing it or decided it was too much trouble ? One problem i have heard is that it is a bandwidth hog, will kill you in bandwidth if you don't convert well. |

we are launching something august 1st.... stay tuned....

come on you post tease. explain a little more, will it be an advertising service like p2pads or a 3rd party application like bearshare ? give us a little more details. |
RelinkSoftware is almost there. I'll keep you all up to date.
|
I really have no idea what you are expecting from this thread :1orglaugh
are you expecting -> 10 people to reply with, "I do this with only 2 servers and xyz software and get 1000000 hits per day" or perhaps something as vague as "yes, it's easy, I do it, I get 100000 hits per day from it, took me only 15 mins to set it up".... |

Here is a quick and dirty way.....
1.) Buy cheap computers from Ebay - Dell Optiplex GX110 2.) Download Kazaa on each computer. 3.) Get videos and encode the with http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.mspx to pop-up a window. 4.) You need multiple IPs 5.) You need multiple cable modems. |

A couple of hundred servers is a good start but not too many hosting companies will have 200 servers lying around and be willing to commit that kind of hardware on a month to month commitment. I'm not trying to dissuade you from getting into it but it took us 2 years to get it where it's at now. It wasn't easy lets just say that... DH |

then you need content... then you need a custom app if you want to get more than 500-1000 uploads per day per server.... |

:Oh crap :Oh crap :Oh crap man that sounds like a pain in the ass. |
anyone looking to acquire said infrastructure & technology may contact me.....but if you think a couple of k is in the ballpark, don't bother

anything they are willing to provide is appreciated. mainly i am curious if there is anyone else out there at the level of p2pads. I find it amazing that they would be the only ones doing the volume they are doing but i have never heard of anyone else making money from it by doing it themselves muchless generating 1 million hits a day. I am thinking about taking a shot at this, feedback here helps me determine if i want to do it or not. |
I Say just use p2pads.com,, if your going to try to invest your money into something, they already have established, why not just utilize their setup, and start doubling to tripling your money. I have been using p2pads.com for a long time now, and will Never stop my campaigns with them. IM Very impressed, and pleased with my results. Copying what they have accomplished would be a Very hard task to take on.

i am not saying you shouldnt try it for yourself, just be prepared for a lengthy and costly process... :2 cents: |
[QUOTE=marketsmart]agreed... to really have a shot of making it pay off, you need a budget of at least 5-10k per month and that gets you about 50-100 servers and 250-500 megs of bandwidth...
QUOTE] 5-10k per month? KEEP GOING! 100 servers x $300 a pop = $30,000 PER Month and that is before you make a cent of revenue. Now try 200 servers which would be a decent starting point... Unless you have $100,000+ in capital available I would not even bother... Now I know that is a biased statement coming from me but I'm just trying to give you an idea of how expensive and time consuming a project like this is. DH |
Why do you need 100's of servers for this?
|
hey will, got an IM contact? I might be able to help..

the more servers the more files that can be dished out, you have hundreds of servers pushing a shitload of stuff, people cant help but to share it too because its always listed in the results....it costs too much money to do this, go with p2pads.com Brad and Mark are on top of their game |
Or, you could find certain sites that will index things for you and therefore not need 100's of your own servers... :)

tried setting up couple of servers too, I'm sure with time I could've seen better results (still getting few bucks daily after taking the sevrers down), might do it again towards the end of the year |

Why do you need 200 servers? you could start out smaller right?
|
Just use p2pads. They are the best at what they do. :)

:thumbsup :thumbsup I'd hit it... PS: Start small, test & measure, repeat if it looks to be worth it... |
Did someone say muttella?
Is there any way to do a little forced entry? |
p2p is a rather saturated market. Even if you know what you're doing it will still take a lot of investment into hardware. "starting small" is a lot easier to apply if you're talking about something that'd use a virtual 9.95 plan, but here you gotta use actual servers, and a lot more than 1. :)

Already have enterprise level admins on staff.... currently the bandwidth is for playing with online radio applications, and serving video for higher traffic mainstream sites. If anyone has any bright ideas... hit me up Bandwidth is a HUGE factor in a lot of online startup ideas... I beat the curve on that already so willing to partner up with anyone who thinks they can make the rest work. Last show I asked for pricing on my 3gigs same spec.... $35k-75k per month with the full cage etc.:2 cents: |

First you need a R&D team (or one smart guy) to figure what network works well and how to get your files into those network, need to monitor how search works. P2P networks will add your IP's to spam list so you need to manage that etc. You need to track which search terms are doing well, what is not doing well, what movie files are doing well, which one is not doing well. This is a full time job, trust me. More like a SEO type of job since you are always trying to be one level above the P2P algorithms.
Then you need the DRM (If you are using WMV) or The Quick Time Pop up. I know you have the DRM since you bought it from me :-). Third you need servers; servers have to be in different IP range and having them in multiple parts of the world helps. Look at 100 - 200. Linux boxes are easy to mange but I use Windows. Jay PS: I got 50 servers now that I use for my own, if you want to put your files ping me, this offer is only for Will since he bought the DRM software from us. |

Jay who are you with? |
You should be able to get some cheap machines ($50 per, per month) if you talk to some dedi providers. Especially if you're talking about hundreds. Bandwidth is gonna cost ya though.
|
I had a chance to test p2pads.com service they seems to be really nice ;)

we have been doing it for almost a year now, but the benefit is working in a datacenter and your boss giving you all the servers and bandwidth for free.
|
200 servers? Your a funny guy, We are having amazing results with a few. I have over 300 of commited bandwidth to dispose along with 3 gigE's worth of capacity fill on my network. I have servers arriving daily and deploying on a p2p service along with my hosting clients. Next week my IP space should be allocated and it will bump my CLass C's count up to 43 total class C's.
Watch in a few weeks once we gather results from testing Relink software has a storm brewing up for you guys if you throught ABP was good. Just wait. |
does anyone sell short video clip content they don't mind being put on p2p?
|
I set it up yesterday using my Atari.
|
Will, Tampa said you were going to call me. I'm here ready to go
Lets get rolling. |
