Why won't my computer turn on? heeeelp!!

One of my PC's won't turn on for some reason. When I press the on button it turns on for literally a split second then goes dead. WTF could the problem be?

:helpme

no maybe the power switch is bad and it's killing the current.

Antonio 07-06-2006 10:32 PM

your power supply might be fuckt (sp?)

Spunky 07-06-2006 10:33 PM

Power supply is fucked

SmutGiant 07-06-2006 10:35 PM

the PC monitor and the laptop i'm using right now are hooked up to the same surge protector and they work just fine. I hope it's nothing serious :(

OG LennyT 07-06-2006 10:35 PM

I would guess the P/S or mainboard

Doctor Dre 07-06-2006 10:35 PM

Try another power supply on it. I've had that problem twice before and it was the power supply.

I think he's talking about the internal power supply that you plug the cord into on the back of your computer. That's responsible for distrubting power to your motherboard, fans, and all your drives. I think it could be that or a messed up switch (the actual button you press on the computer to power it on).

MyNameIsNobody 07-06-2006 10:42 PM

first guess, it's your power supply..

czarina 07-06-2006 10:46 PM

Power supply on the box.

I really don't know anything about computer hardware :)

hent 07-06-2006 10:59 PM

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....ry&id=cat01073 - $55 + 10 minutes or less to install.

NTSS 07-06-2006 11:00 PM

Mine was doing the same thing awhile back...unplug your pc from the surge protector or turn the surge protector off for a couple minutes then try again.

No problem. When you buy one make sure you get 50 extra watts above 350 watts for every 2 harddrives/dvd rom drives you have.

So if you have 2 harddrives and 2 cd/dvd drives you'll need a 450 watt.

bobbyjuly 07-06-2006 11:07 PM

Why would a surge protector do that?
