Seriously, why are fireworks illegal?

I mean, blowing things up is something us Americans are good at. Our forefathers loved to blow things up. Our current administration really likes to blow things up. Aren't they setting an example for us to follow?

Why take away the one thing that we can all do well? It just doesn't seem right.

dissipate 07-02-2006 12:09 AM

fuck it, i have a bs in chemistry, i make my own - and they're way better than the store bought ones :frenchman

MaddCaz 07-02-2006 12:10 AM

I dunno....

Well, the concept of government has changed since the Founding Fathers. Now, the state has to be in every sphere of human activity. Regulations. Taxes. You name it. The county by county firework regulation/ordnance is just one aspect of this.

LiveDose 07-02-2006 12:12 AM

We can buy them.

Doctor Dre 07-02-2006 12:12 AM

What is stupid is that you can buy them, but you can't blow them... they make money from selling them to you, but you can't use them.

Spider Ninja 07-02-2006 12:13 AM

because you can blow your hand off?

C H R I S 07-02-2006 12:13 AM

Just bought some down near LAX - safe and sane variety. I think they are legal in some counties....

BIGTYMER 07-02-2006 12:13 AM

Same reasons lil kids shouldn't have bb guns. :1orglaugh

Yeah, most counties that sell them don't let you blow them up in that county. You have to go elsewhere.

You could slip in the shower and break your neck. Happens all the time. Should they outlaw showers?

They have the same type of regulations in Hawaii... you can own and raise fighting birds (aka fighting cocks...the avian variety :)) but you can't hold cockfights.

So you are suggesting that they do it to protect us from ourselves?

Webby 07-02-2006 12:19 AM

They are more lethal than guns - so got to make them "illegal"

Duh?

Yes, common sense would dictate that you should not use sparklers and fountains in heavy brush.

Fireworks are more lethal than guns? Was that an attempt at humor?

DWB 07-02-2006 12:21 AM

Because your government does not think you are adult enough to have them.

Or is it because they aren't collecting taxes on them?

You talking about Canada or US? Don't really matter where - that's just insane.

More a dry cynical smirk delivered with a touch of sarcasm :winkwink:

Seriously.. it is actually illegal to use fireworks??

Can see the point where kids are involved and really need supervising - but sounds weird otherwise.

I'm talking about canada here ;)

But it's local jurisdictoin. Some place you can, others you can't.

They sell them everywhere thought.

Rochard 07-02-2006 12:32 AM

Baddog has been spending too much time around around Niko, who loves FIRE and loves to blow things up. Niko is like "Trash Man" in THE STAND.

Fireworks are illegal because too many people set fire to things and blow things up. They were illegal in Arizona, but now I'm in NORCAL and I see the booths popping up all over the place. I can't wait to go shopping.

mikeyddddd 07-02-2006 12:33 AM

I shot off about $600 worth tonight.

Of course, there was a fire on the island across the lake before I got started about 10:00 PM CDT.

Never actually heard of that one before. Eg.. Unless things have changed, there was nothing like that in the EU countries - but can see some laws possible when children have access to "explosive devices".

In Costa Rica currently.. no problems like that - tho they would never notice if ya blew a mountain up :winkwink:

unfortunately common sense isnt as widespread as it once was. you must also realize alcohol + explosives is never a good mix. in all honestly, i can see why bottlerockets/romancandles are outlawed because one shift of the wind and its on your neighbors roof burning down the neighborhood.

fl_prn_str 07-02-2006 12:47 AM

One of mine was a tube about the size of a silver dollar and 3 feet long that shot 144 Roman candles. Another looked like a shack that shot shit out for 2-3 minutes that was called Redneck Party. But, the coolest was probably the one that was a little bigger around than a coffee can that had a bunch of smaller circles inside. When the fuse was lit it rotated through the smaller holes sending pyrotechnics skyward.

Dagwolf 07-02-2006 12:48 AM

They never should have taken away those M-80s.. Those were fun.

1/4 of a stick of dynamite. :thumbsup

mikeyddddd 07-02-2006 12:50 AM

Black Cat sells a 16K pack. It's a roll with 16,000 firecrackers. :1orglaugh

cars get ya from here to there.

fireworks, in the hands of highly-trained and competent professionals, can create inspirational spectacles in the sky.

in the hands of children and amateurs, they get ya from here to there.

it's interesting that the combination of fireworks and transportation also has 2 sides: 1 | 2

sounds fun. luckily for me i have friends and family with farmland outside of town where i can shoot off my "illegal" fireworks in large empty fields. after several years doing it i couldnt imagine shooting these fireworks off in town with many homes featuring woodshake roofs and dead grass surrounding them.

madawgz 07-02-2006 12:52 AM

wow, they are fucking dangerous...

emthree 07-02-2006 12:55 AM

Dont know, but we have enough fireworks to blow up an entire block this year.

Double L 07-02-2006 01:21 AM

Must just be your area/state they are illegal. A trip to the Indian reservation here has all you can want and its legal to light them so long as you arent in the city limits. Gamble on the reservation, get drunk, lose money then drive home and light off some cannons....:helpme

They are illegal because the majority of assholes who shoot them off at the public parks, beaches, etc, don't clean up after their fucking selves.

It's as simple as that.
