American Football is so boring...

How can this weird game be your most popular sport? :1orglaugh

Seriously, I was watching some games to try to find what's the special thing about it, and the game stops every 10-15 seconds!!! WTF??

It is so fucking boring!! If you have luck, you will enjoy 20 seconds at once, because they stop it very frequently. :1orglaugh

Thank's God, our most popular sport over here is FOOTBALL!! REAL FOOTBALL!

I think you call it soccer in North-America. :1orglaugh

RUGBY is for men. Not American Football where they use 20 kg of protectors. :1orglaugh

They wear such protection due to the size and speed of the players.
I personally would like to see a rugby guy play in the NFL.

WD Brian 05-16-2006 03:08 PM

Football rules.

There's only one rugby guy in the NFL and he's a punter.

Ok I stand corrected, a rugby guy in a non protected position that is allowed to be hit.

exactly, thats what non americans dont understand, i bet their rugby players would opt for pads when they got a 6'5 400lb guy charging at his face full force leveling him... not that 5'9 150lb guys they have...

MrKinkade 05-16-2006 03:36 PM

whats the purpose of rugby looks like a game of keep away and kill the man when we were younger and what the hell is the ref in a tuxedo and gay hat doing with his hands after they score like this

nestle 05-16-2006 03:44 PM

Think of American Football as a turn-based strategy game and every turn allows you 4 chances to gain more 'land' and if you gain enough, you get more turns.

It's a game of strategy and anticipation.

If you don't like what you see, no one's forcing you to watch it.

GoodGuy 05-16-2006 04:00 PM

I don't understand why you stop the game every 10-15 seconds..

And it looks like nobody will answer why.. That's so fucking boring.

yeah SOCCER is so exciting. Soccer is boring. Anyone that gets excited seeeing a bunch of fags running back in forth for 90 minutes only to see the game end 0-0 is an idiot. Cut the field length and width in half and then MAYBE you have a more excting game.

Drake 05-16-2006 04:10 PM

We feel the same way about soccer. In all seriousness, soccer is the most popular sport worldwide ONLY because it can be played everywhere among rich or poor, doesn't matter. You don't even need a real ball or a field. A makeshift ball and makeshift goal and you're set. I remember playing it that way as a kid.

I guess soccer and football are similar in that they are games of strategy. Familiarity breeds likability - we like what we're used to watching. The bonus with football is that their is so much more physical contact.

Its a game of strategy as well as size and skill. The game stops to set up the next play out of a possible 1000+ scenerios.

A NFL player is a true physical specimen. A rugby player would not stand a chance against a NFL kicker let alone any of the stud line backers etc.

To each his own though.

Slightly puzzled by the 5'9 150 lb reference!! I mean how many games of rugby have you actually seen? And why this obsessive need to defend the, admittedly ludicrous, amount of padding with 'yeah but the're so big dude like bigger than anyone else on the planet dude and not gay like (insert genuinely popular sport) pussies'.

There is only 1 golden rule as to the popularity of a sport and that is how many countries play the sport in question. Football is more popular than say cricket because more countries play it and therefore watch it. Any other criteria as to 'how good is a sport' (ie most popular) is meaningless bollocks.

By and large American sport sucks and the rest of the world knows it and politely ignores it. Quite right too!

The thing that makes football so exciting is the anticipation of spectacular big plays on offense and defense. When a big play does happen, it's very exciting. It does take a little warming up to though. Once you get familiar with the rules, I'm sure you'd like it. I've met other foriegners (Aussies, Brits, Irish...) who said the same thing you're saying untill they gave it a chance and now they love it. Comparing soccer and football is like comparing blondes and brunettes. They're totally different but they're both great to have around.

RogerV10 05-16-2006 04:31 PM

Like serioulsy how can you say that. I mean you would have to watch 10-15 soccer games for one BIG Play, where as there is one made almost every game in football.

Yep. Plus, you're lucky if someone even scores a goal or 2 in soccer. In football, a game in which only one team scores or one team scores once or twice is, indeed, very boring.:winkwink:

I'm making the exact same assumptions you have chosen to make. The media hypes up the commercials because of the extremely high prices of the spots.

i could give two shits about commercials...probaly just as much as you give about kilts.

Rugby guys are as big or bigger than those GAY NFL guys.

The difference is that Rugby guys have balls, and don't use any ridicolous protectors like NFL gays do. :1orglaugh

Damn here we go again with the 'biggest, strongest, fastest dudes on the planet' bit. I mean why? Who cares? Why are you all (deep down) so sensitive over this padding issue? Is because you are a tiny bit afraid that wearing all that padding does mean its all just a little bit gay?

If you like the sport then embrace it, be proud of it but cease with the stupid comments

My 'assumption' is based on the fact that in the weeks leading up to the Superbowl, most people on here seem to get more excited about them, so it's not all meadia hype as you put it.

At the end of the day, nobody is right, and nobody is wrong.

It's just that alot of Amercians believe that because it isn't their biggest sport, thats the end of it, it must suck.

Football (soccer) is THE biggest sport in the world, whether you like it, or not... :pimp

i put my life on a bet that if you got your best rugby team, and put pads on them, and put them against our most recent superbowl winners, and let them play a game, the rugby players would get leveled, no doubt about it... and then put the nfl players the same with rugby, no doubt would american players be used to going full force, that they would still end up leveling rugby players..

i played football in highschool, and had pads, but i loved playing the same sport, without pads... i don't know how many times have i hurt myself, or others playing football without pads... but guess what... we in america, care about ourselves and would rather have pads and break a leg, then not have pads and kill ourselves...

i bet none of your rugby players go diving over a tackle or something and slam head first into each other at full force just top stop a touch down or whatever it is you guys call it

Anyone who doesn't like a sport should go and see it live, in the heightened atmosphere of a good match.

They will sing a different tune, or at least have a better understanding.

So? That means squat. Funny how the Super Bowl is the most watch sporting event on tv WORLDWIDE. Hmmmmmm. Why are you euros so insecure about your soccer? American football and soccer are to completely different sports. So why is this even being compared? You might as well be saying "Soccer is more exciting than basketball". Americans like OUR versionof football and if that bothers you, well tough shit. Soccer has been tried here in American more thna once and it fails miserably. Ironic since it's one of the more popular organized youth sports. yet when those youths get older they could give a rats ass about watching it on TV.

Also hockey is Canadas sport not soccer. Baseball is the sport in japan and in other asia countries as well as most of the Caribean and Latin America.
