Good. I'm glad you're on top of your game. Unfortunately, with the rise of RSS, there might be confusing questions re extent of permission re feeds, etc. Just sharing with the community some info to help.:thumbsup

I dont know...with RSS its hard to tell really! Because part of the purpose of RSS is to offer the content for syndacation...

For ex: some blogs offer an RSS feeds that will display only the first 30 or so words of the article, with a link to their blog for the original article... When you do something like that, you pretty much know that people will grab your content and publish it elsewhere if you ask me... I mean..isnt that the whole purpose of it? :2 cents:

SO you are saying I can't actually copy other people's shit, publish it as my own, insert my own hot links, and remove the authors? Damn!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Yep. Despite what a few people think.:thumbsup

summary:

# These days, almost all things are copyrighted the moment they are written, and no copyright notice is required.
# Copyright is still violated whether you charged money or not, only damages are affected by that.
# Postings to the net are not granted to the public domain
# Fair use is a complex doctrine meant to allow certain valuable social purposes.
# Copyright is not lost because you don't defend it; that's a concept from trademark law.
# Fan fiction and other work derived from copyrighted works is a copyright violation.
# Copyright law is mostly civil law where the special rights of criminal defendants you hear so much about don't apply.
# Don't rationalize that you are helping the copyright holder.
# Posting E-mail is technically a violation, but revealing facts from E-mail you got isn't.

You'd think fan fiction was covered under artistic license.

i always ask for permission before syndicating someone's blog content. and i also only publish the first few sentences (or whatever they have placed in their 'summary' section).

RSS is incredible for legit purporses (building exposure for your content, links etc). regular hardlinks with only the anchor text is less attractive to the surfer than a dynamic title and summary that changes daily.

the problem is, it's very easy to poach someone's content using RSS without ever exposing it to the original author. as stated above, you can rewrite the links so that no traffic/link value goes back to the original author. as with anything online, the best tools also make for the best spamming mechanisms.
