Hard to say. The tank and filters were about 1-1.3K. The sand was about $350, the rock is $10-$12 per pound and I think I have about 80 pounds. Then there is the cost of the fish and shrimp.

Babagirls 03-26-2006 06:25 PM

QTbucks_Mark 03-26-2006 06:33 PM

Looks nice, but maybe you should add some plants. A little empty in there.

Anyway, your posting made me think about getting one for my office as well. Loved the one I had some years ago...

Very hard to keep plants in a Marine tank. Most saltwater fish eat plants.

thx,
Ray

Sosa 03-26-2006 08:18 PM

nice setup :)

Aric 03-26-2006 08:35 PM

Nice setup! I hope to try a saltwater setup soon.

I keep a 55g and a 29g at home and we play with a 130g and 90g at work (all freshwater) :)

My home tanks are cichlid tanks -- 2 growing Managuensis (Jaguars), some Convicts and a few others. The small tank has 3 little Jags that hopefully grow to be placed in the 130g at work :)

My Jags breeding shortly after a wholesale gravel change:

And the last time they attempted to breed, they tore up the fake plants constantly hehe:

Fish keeping is a fun hobby :thumbsup

nice pics, you need some more live rock in that setup :)

i can't wait to get mine going again. i had a sweet 90 g reef setup i sold to my school when i moved away to college.

Kevsh 03-26-2006 10:27 PM

I used to have a salt water tank that was amazing, until I put in a Domino Damsel that I later referred to as "The Black Bastard". He terrorized everything in the tank until they died out of fear or starvation - literally.

Getting him out was no easy task but I did, too late to save the tank though. I'd love to start over and do it again - a lot of money, time and patience (and frustration) ... not to mention if you move homes, it will be a bigger chore than the rest of the house combined. But worth it :)

Here's a pic of a damsel like mine. He even looks mean. Bastard.

I also have an aquarium in my mom's house and the only fish i got is flower horn.
btw, you have a nice set up. congrats!

lloyd 03-26-2006 11:03 PM

i've been thinking about putting a koi pond in my back yard and some bamboo, do a japanese look.

reynold 03-26-2006 11:09 PM

i used to have a beautiful aquarium until my work robbed me of the time to clean it up. most of my fishes die because of the dirty water.

gecko 03-26-2006 11:11 PM

very cool looking fishys

iWeb_Allan 03-26-2006 11:17 PM

Bob_cougar 03-27-2006 02:13 AM

grumpy 03-27-2006 03:22 AM

Those fish will die way before they should die.
An aquarium without plants is an instant killer for fish.
I hope your happy.

Not really, it's a saltwater aquarium.

Damian_Maxcash 03-27-2006 04:17 AM

When I was Dunedin I set up an Aquarium shop - the ultimate Fish Geek!

I got so bored after 6 months I sold it, but we had some great setups. Retail isnt for me.

One of the things I aim at doing is breeding marines commercially on Tenerife. Its not at the top of the list though, so it may never happen. :)

Just a note to anybody who's thinking of starting a saltwater aquarium...
1. Expect to shell out at least 5k for some decent equipment (tanks, lights, pumps, skimmer, calcium reactor, chiller).
2. Don't listen to the guy at the fish store, they make it sound easy, do some research at reefcentral.com instead.
3. Maintenance is a bitch, it's time consuming.
4. You can't eat the fish. :1orglaugh

Go scuba diving at the Bahamas instead. It'll be much cheaper in the long run.

If you're a DIY freak and love fish don't listen to me.

What you see there is about 70pounds of Figi and Florida live rock. I used to have a full reef about 4 years ago. I dont have time for that any more, reefs are wayyyyy to much work.

Ray

gleem 03-27-2006 09:53 AM

dude you need more rock and some corals in there! I get premium tonga branch and any other kind for about $3.50 a pound here, and livestock at wholesale.. got my 135gal setup a couple months ago.. will post some pics soon :)

gleem 03-27-2006 09:54 AM

oh and salwater fish could give a shit about "plants" they will get stressed however if there isn't enough rock to swim in and out of and hide in, and the more you make it look like a reef with corals, the happier they will be ;)

gleem 03-27-2006 11:15 AM

Some of my fish and soft/lps/sps corals... damn hard to get a good pic with my camera though :(
