Ikea meatballs

A culinary wonder of the modern world. I was dragged to Ikea today which is really the last place I would want to be on a Saturday. I thought the point of working from home was that I didn't have to be at places like that when they were the most busy. However, it was made up to me by meatballs. I still have no idea why they are so much better than any other meatball I have had. Though I do think this is a consipracy that whenever I go to my Ikea the lingonberry drink fountain is empty.

BadBrad 02-25-2006 03:26 PM

Lol. Ya we go to lunch there just for the meatballs. YUMM!!! :thumbsup

avalanche 02-25-2006 03:27 PM

Those things are great! Been fighting the urge to buy their bag of frozen ones to make at home. They probably won't be as good.

love me some meatballs

Damian_Maxcash 02-25-2006 03:31 PM

They are good but the Gradvalux sucks - way too much dill.

Just_Dave 02-25-2006 03:31 PM

i will try them next time i go there

chupachups 02-25-2006 03:31 PM

Any real swedish meatballs are far better than those, even the deepfrozen ones:)

dinkz 02-25-2006 03:38 PM

The meatballs at IKEA aren't that good, atleast not in Sweden...

You should try "Surströmming" instead! :thumbsup

munki 02-25-2006 03:42 PM

I'm vegetarian, and I even have to nab a few meatballs when the dreaded Ikea trip comes around.

Pornwolf 02-25-2006 03:43 PM

I don't even eat red meat often but I am in love with the Swedish meatbals there!

xxxdesign-net 02-25-2006 03:44 PM

the chicken is discusting.. that i know..

The Captain 02-25-2006 03:51 PM

I have tried the take home bag, and if made right taste exactly the same

Manowar 02-25-2006 03:53 PM

Probono 02-25-2006 04:03 PM

I must confess I love Swedish Meatballs and blondes too. Ikea meatballs are a great fast food replacement; never found a replacement for the blondes.

lol..It was the Thurrock store I got them from. Though after you survive that roundabout I think you deserve them.

Tipsy 02-25-2006 05:29 PM

They have to have the gravy and jam to really work! But then that gravy makes other meatballs good too.

Sarah_Jayne 02-25-2006 06:22 PM

I am sure there is something they put in it that suddenly makes people think they need more tealights.

OY 02-25-2006 06:22 PM

The meatballs at IKEA are the bomb when you are "not in Sweden". I get them every time (like once a year) when I go to IKEA here in Los Angeles - love them.

Other than for those, fuck Sweden.

I don't know any Swedish people here that could cook them for me so I couldn't say but I have had meatballs of various nationalities that were home made and these are still the best. I am sure they don't compare to the original thing or are too different to be called authentic but to those of us that don't know any better they are like culinary crack.

Brujah 02-25-2006 06:50 PM

I love swedish meatballs, they're fantastic. My mom would make them all the time and growing up they were my favorite food.

sickkittens 02-25-2006 06:54 PM

The fact that you probably didn't want to be there and were starving maybe made then better than what they actually were?:Oh crap

Paparazzi 02-25-2006 06:54 PM

I prefer homemade Swedish meatballs :thumbsup

sweetpiece 02-25-2006 09:42 PM

i want some, bitch

breaker 02-26-2006 09:30 AM

Homemade is the best, i don't like factory made meatballs. And it doesn't take too long time to make them yourself.

svenski 02-26-2006 09:34 AM

Ikea meatballs and the hotdogs have been an institution in the UK for years now, and great to take your mind off the "shitznitz" food trays and "boglicka" kitchen sets.

czarina 02-26-2006 09:35 AM

I made meatballs at home yesterday and they came out dry inside. The sauce was awesome, but the meat was too dry. What a shame! Now you made me envious with yours :)

Jensen 02-26-2006 09:39 AM

I make my own meatballs at home.. but they are a sure thing at ikea though.. great taste and cheap as hell..

MrJazz99 02-26-2006 09:44 AM

500 g meat (mixed flesh/ox, it gets more tastier then, otherwise use just ox)
1 onion well hacked
1 egg
2 cooked potatoes or potato meal
salt'n'pepper
Milk (or water)

Just mix it together and let it stand for bout 20 minutes and then make the meatballs, use water on your hands, they get smoother then, fry them on high/mid level in 5 minutes....

DONE !!!

ps. its exactly the same for meatloaf....

put some worchestershire sauce in with them next time (keeps them moist inside).

pornguy 02-26-2006 09:49 AM

I thought that ikea was a furniture store.

cook the meatballs 1/2 way then add them to the sauce and let them finish. They will be great. :)

Their hotdogs are the only decent hotdogs you can get anywhere in the UK.

You need to get your energy up for your four hour stay in the store.

nadanada 02-26-2006 10:12 AM

i hit the ikea in houston pretty much every month or so, and they are one of the reasons my wife drags me there :(

MontrealPimp 02-26-2006 10:19 AM

I love ikea, I can't help but spend hours in there each time I go, there is so much to buy in there, it never ends. Yes their meatballs are insane! Their hotdogs are unique too, they are like sweet on the outside, I think they glaze them with some sort of a light syrup, who knows..

I think I am going to pass by today, I need a few things.

Vitasoy 02-26-2006 10:20 AM

Damn this thread is making me hungry:Oh crap

Sarah_Jayne 02-26-2006 10:23 AM

now I wish they had a meatball affiliate program

Aahhh, do as i suggest, just half/half of meat/ox, then they're getting much better....btw. IKEA's meatballs are worse than pizza, but i suppose they are better abroad, since Ingvar Kamprad (IKEAS founder) has moved his fortune to the Netherlands. We in Sweden cannot expect anything but the worst :1orglaugh

You are a soul-mate, Sarah. I thought I was the only one who went to Ikea just to eat.

Peaches 02-26-2006 07:38 PM

I have heard about these! Ikea isn't my taste in furniture at all (though I have heard they have some lamps I might like) but the meatballs seem like it's worth a trip :)

foolio 02-26-2006 08:00 PM

Had some the other day while the wife was shopping lol - they were ok... not worth a special trip or anything like that.

wonder if woj will get the 50....
