Is USA too violent?

I really really respect Johnny Depp. I think he's a great actor.

However, I read that he lives in Paris with his wife and children because USA is too violent.

Is this true?

I always thought that Americans are peaceful

Martin 04-19-2002 10:47 PM

Yeah man the USA is fucked but, they think it's all good..

Violent bastards:ak47:

MetaformX 04-19-2002 10:47 PM

fuck johnny dep
thats the sorriest excuse ive ever heard
that motherfucker smashed a hotel room to pieces one time, when he was high.....
hes saying U.S. is too violent? he needs to look in the mirror

but to be honost, yes, U.S. is a violent place. certainly not for pussies like johnny dep

mika 04-19-2002 10:49 PM

And that's why Johnny Depp is a pussy cuz he doesnt?

Hot Tropical Babes 04-19-2002 10:52 PM

Sorry I didnt know the definition of the word violence. I thought violence is damage done to other people, I didnt think its damage done to hotel rooms.

Btw, I also think he could afford that 6k

But thanks for clearing this out

Shooter 04-19-2002 10:58 PM

I was born in the U.S., have lived all over the country and have never had a friend or family member have any problems at all.

Course there's some neighborhoods I'd get a little nervous being in.

redshift 04-19-2002 11:00 PM

It depends on where one lives here in the good ol usa

my house hardly ever gets locked - I never lock my car
Out front theirs a stocked tool box, four wheeler, boat etc.
sitting out front
I never worry about anything getting stolen

But 60 miles southwest of me is shreveport,la
you better lock ALL your shit up or it aint gonna be there the mornin :)

and yes theres alot of people that carry guns around here
including myself. In my 35years I have never fired a gun at another person nor do I know of anyone that has.

BUT if some ass wipe feels lucky one night and crawls in my house
he's a dead motherfucker - and I can shoot him legally, as long as he's "in my house" - can't shoot him in the yard

Do I feel safe here - yes very much so

DatsMyStapler 04-20-2002 12:29 AM

you carry gun? thats safe

thats not being violent, thats just being a wild baboon

4Pics 04-20-2002 12:51 AM

Yeah it's so much more violent then what's going on elsewhere in the world right now.

He's just a pussy and its better that he doesn't live here, guess france suits him just fine.

Rose 04-20-2002 07:01 AM

I feel safe in US. Unless you are in Detroit. LOL
When I drive in US I hardly lock my car, but when I am in Europe
I always make sure I lock it good.

Marcus 04-20-2002 07:27 AM

He's one to talk.

Johnny Depp trashed a hotel room in NYC costing them $1,200 in damages, was arrested in Vancouver for having a fight with a hotel security guard, and was fucking Kate Moss when she was only 16.

Something else I remember reading but don't have exact details.

Number of people shot in the USA in the year 2000 - 40,000
Number of people shot in the UK in the year 2000 - 40

Pornwolf 04-20-2002 07:58 AM

I hear this all the time from people overseas. "Oh my gosh, You all carry guns! Your So Violent! Eek!"

Yes, We are violent. But we also have a country that the rest of the world would like to emulate in some way.

We aren't crazy about the fact that we are a little dangerous but it's that same cowboy mentality that we have here that ends up helping other countries out of the deep shit they get into from time to time.

We can handle it, so stop worrying about it.

Fro 04-20-2002 08:07 AM

The USA is probably more violent than Finland, but less violent than other places in the world...Hummm...Let's take a look:

For example, Finland has a population of 5,181,115 and had an estimated 27,323 violent offences reported (manslaughter, murder, homicide and assault). That's about 1 violent offence per 190 people.

The USA, God bless Her, had a (based on 2000 data) population of 282,124,631 and an actual (as opposed to reported) figure, based on data gathered from victims (instead of law enforcement entities), of 2,186,700 violent crimes. That's about 1 violent offence per 130 people.

That's interesting.

I've never heard any country wish they were "more like America".

FATPad 04-20-2002 09:10 AM

Our problem is we're not violent enough on repeat violent criminals. Instead of punishing them, we find a syndrome or condition they suffer from, and excuse them because of that.

If repeat violent offenders were actually punished properly here, we'd have a lot less violent crime.

digi 04-20-2002 09:18 AM

What a puss. America is what you make it. There's no violence in my neighborhood. I'm sure a multi-millionaire can find a similar neighborhood wherever he goes.

ProgGod 04-20-2002 09:42 AM

Your statistics are scewed for one major reason. They are based on population. Hundreds of millions of people work in DC and NY every day. But no one lives there. The only people that live inside of DC and NY are people who live in the extremely bad and poor neighborhoods. Most of the people that work there live in the nice suburbs around the cities, which are lower crime zones. This is the case in any large city. Most of the cities you wouldn't want to be in at night, but during the day they are crime free.

Actions speak louder than words.

Everyone has a problem with the US until they need help. Just like so many Americans have problems with cops until they need help.

I guess you missed the "Homicides per 100,000 population of the country" section then.

For wht is worth, I was born and raised in England but now live in the USA. I feel perfectly safe here, and I felt perfectly safe in England.

One thing the stats do show is that the chances of getting murdered are tiny, so don't worry about it - relax, and have a :drinkup

Also, US crime revolves around our underclass which, instead of letting die off, our liberal dopes have decided to prop up and allow to multiply. (one of the reasons D.C. is so riddled with crime)

The crime rate in my town is so low that they report traffic violations for lack of any other news. :)

LoveAsianChicks 04-20-2002 10:09 AM

12clicks - it has been proven time & time again that many foriegners work very hard or bring money with them.
Only the illegals drag a country down.

America not long ago, was formed by "foriegners". Unless your a Native Indian, I bet someone in your history moved from Europe to America at some point.

yes, and the rest of the world appriciated us for the help we were doling out. That doesn't hold true today. The ONLY true friend the US has is England. Every other country has one hand out for our money while the other hand is holding a "down with America" sign.

Its time for America to take a year off from propping up the world so that mikas and martins of the world realize just how much we do.

That is very true. I get sick of hearing people talk about how evil the US is while in their next breath telling us how much more we owe the world because everything we've already done and still do isn't enough.
