So I put my Denon AVR-3802 up for sale

on bargainhunter.ca, I chose MY town and out an ad in that section. I get an email concerning my ad. Some person from god knows where overseas is interested and willing to give me $1500 for my home theatre reciever.

Ok, so all sounds good, right? well, I had a bad feeling about this since the first email, but still kept in contact. This person gets a money order from USPS.com for $1500usd, I get the confirmation email that stated that I must send the package and get a tracking #. After that I would have to email them the tracking # so they can make sure that I sent the item in question.

So I check the buyer's infor on the USPS confirmation mail. I see a name, part of the credit card #, address, state etc..

So I decide to investigate further. I check with USA 411 for the name that was on the credit card that was used to buy the money order.. Hmmm.. no one by that name in Rochester, NY (the state that was given on the credit card info) or in the entire USA. ok so maybe this person is unlisted so I do some more research and look for the street that was mentioned (Fria DR in Rochester, NY)> Guess what? there is no street by that name in Rochester or anywhere in NY.

By this point I'm feeling very weary about this whole deal. I'm expected to send something I paid $2600 for without actually having gotten the money for it? Just feel safe that I will recieve my money after that I sent it? Fuck that! So I call USPS to do more research and try to confirm that this money order is legit and not a fake email that LOOKS legit. What does the retarded cu nt at USPS tell me?

"Well, I can't confirm that, but we did get 1000's of calls today concerning money orders so I can say that it's legit"

So I tell the retard "How can you say it's legit when you never asked for my name or the name of the person that made this money order? How can you just tell me that it's legit without having any info?"

So she says "all I can say is that it's real"

I say "ok, whatever" and hang up.

The buyer emails me back with the shipping documents and tells me "print 3 copies, go to your nearest fedex and ship it"

He continues by saying "I want this shipped by tomorrow"

Well, sorry to say, but I am not shipping a damn thing without knowing full fucking well that I will get my $1500. I don't trust people and I sure as hell am not gonna trust him or her.

I want to sell this thing so I could upgrade, but I sure as hell am not going to just give it away. This isn't some crappy Citizens equipment and I worked hard for it.

Not to mention that the name on the credit card is not even the same as the buyer's name. Hell, not even the same damn place. I gave this person my phone # to call me to confirm everything, but they never called so that raised another red flag.

Anyone wanna buy it? $1400 and it's your. It's like bran new (I baby my electronics lol)

Yngwie 01-23-2006 02:27 AM

if this person thinks that I'm an idiot that will just ship this item out without getting any money they better think again. I'm not about to get scammed.

Yngwie 01-23-2006 02:32 AM

would help if the person's name on the credit card would actually exist and was the same name and address as the actual buyer. Of course, the buyer's address is sure as hell not from the USA. like wtf is

BJ, FLCH, estate shagari
Akinogun b/stop, Ipaja
Lagos,
NG

the Shemp 01-23-2006 02:34 AM

run the shipping adress in a search engine and see if its a mailbox rental place.

Yngwie 01-23-2006 02:34 AM

hmm.. Nigeria? fuck that shit

well, i wouldnt ship it..how did he buy a USPS money order in Nigeria, or am i confused?

Yngwie 01-23-2006 02:44 AM

I mean why in the hell would a person from overseas go to bargainhunter.ca which is obviously Canadian then go to the Sudbury, Ontario section of the site (a small town) and buy something like this? Right there I see this as a scam and I didn't feel right about it right from that point.

I won't be shipping it. I'm not that crazy.. How did he/she buy a money order? well, from what I see on the "confirmation email" from USPS it was bought using a credit card. The address of the card holder was in the states.. on frias DR in rochester, NY. I did a search for that street and it does not exist..Not in rochester, not in any other state. Even did a search for the person's name and there is noone by that name in rochester or anywhere in the USA.

its a scam, bro
using generated CC numbers to buy money orders, then using the money orders to buy product and have it shipped offshore..if you would have had your own merchant account, they would have skipped the money order step..then you would have got a charge back about 30-60 days later..

Yngwie 01-23-2006 02:58 AM

the actual person who would recieve this package is named Olumide Cerah..

this is why I did not trust this from the start. Good thing I'm not an idiot that just shipped the item out without investigating first. :) I paid $2600 for this thing and I sure as hell am not going to let some scammer steal it from me.

Yngwie 01-23-2006 03:01 AM

Nice story and i feel with you

I dont trust anyone either and im not about to start just because a friggin support lady says otherwise and not even asking my name haha

Yngwie 01-23-2006 04:01 AM

I hope I can actually sell it. I want to upgrade to a higher model and I can get a good deal for it.. Just need to sell this one for at least $1400

Yngwie 01-23-2006 09:16 AM

the fucker emailed me back after I sent him an email saying that I will not be shipping anything because I do not trust him etc.. and he said

"Hello ayangwie,
you are getting every thing all wrong....PLs try and believe me....contact the bank for verification......
Thanx.."

He really fucked up my name in this email haha

ssp 01-23-2006 09:55 AM

These scammers are on ebay alot as well. Offering a good amount of money, always insisting to pay through money order. Don't do it it's a scam.

fuzebox 01-23-2006 10:18 AM

Forge an email back to him coming from USPS saying the credit card was declined and his money order will not be sent, and then right after email him yourself saying that the money order didn't go through and you need Western Union sent.

sticki 01-23-2006 11:00 AM

good call on not sending it...sounds like a sure scam...i like the western union idea...don't accept paypal either...they're crap

Yngwie 01-23-2006 10:19 PM

I told this person straight out that I will not send anything unless I have the money in my hands. I did mention the western union idea, but this fucker keeps insisting that I should trust him/her that the money order is real. That right there tell me that it's a scammer. I don't just give out my trust to anyone. They have to earn it. This fuck is not getting anything from me.
