I May Have Fucked Up And Bought Too Large Of A Monitor ***PIC***

Seriously! I've been working with a Dell 24" widescreen LCD for a couple weeks now and I love it. I heard Dell just came out with a 30" model so I'm thinking "bigger is better", right? Anyway, it just came the other day and I'm seriously considering sending it back, it just seems a bit too overwhelming.

Anyone here recently upgrade to a 30" monitor? I'm wondering if it's just one of those things that may take a while to adjust to.

holy shit, what a beast :1orglaugh

ElvisManson 01-19-2006 12:36 PM

if you want to get rid of the 30in lmk..I might be interested in buying it.

I have 4 20in flatpanels but need a new larger monitor for another computer.

they just did dual 30 inch monitors. Personally it seems like alot to me. But to each his own.

WiredGuy 01-19-2006 12:38 PM

It looks fine to me, give it a week, you'll get used to it :)

Hmm I got the Gateway 21 inch and now it seems small to. I was considering the Westinghouse 37 inch, Id say to give it more time to get used to it. How much did you get it for?

seeric 01-19-2006 12:39 PM

damn i need two of those

s9ann0 01-19-2006 12:39 PM

i thought when I got my 50" plasma it'd rock using it as a monitor but its fucking hard work you have to move your head about all the time so I stick with 17 / 19" flatscreen for the pc

RogerV 01-19-2006 12:40 PM

lol I have two 18's side by side the 30 would be kewl but even the 24 looks big enough.

EroticySteve 01-19-2006 12:48 PM

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm thinking as well. I run 2 PC's at my desk and I'm constantly switching back and forth between them. Was going to go with a 30" for each of the PC's but I'm leaning toward 2 of the 24" monitors at this point. I think I'll give it a few more days to see if I adjust to it or not.

Babagirls 01-19-2006 12:51 PM

lol wayyyy too big

Nom_is 01-19-2006 12:52 PM

You want a Dell 30" Monitor??

YOU

A DELL 30" MONITOR!!!

Pornwolf 01-19-2006 12:53 PM

Oh shit, I think you may have hit on something!

Lonny 01-19-2006 12:59 PM

can you hang that monitor? if so why not put it in front of you on thast wall. Just a ideal...

fuzebox 01-19-2006 12:59 PM

Stop fullscreening your windows and you'll be fine. Personally I love having a lot of desktop space, but only because I tile all the windows next to each other.

Really don't know, didn't do any research on gaming performance since I'll only be using it for work. :winkwink:

Thanks

For max performance and resolution it requires a "dual-link DVI". I'm using 2 - 256MB GeForce 7800GTX cards with SLI. That being said I also hooked it up to one of my older PC's that has a single 256MB AGP card and it really didn't seem to look that much different on the older PC, a bit more detectable "graininess" but not too bad.

LoriAnderson 01-19-2006 01:15 PM

Looks good to me Jake :)

Sosa 01-19-2006 01:18 PM

looks a little out of place there

RobbieRye 01-19-2006 01:19 PM

I was looking at those on the Dell site the other day. I got all excited and started to drule just a little bit.

I wouldn't be sending that back.

The Captain 01-19-2006 01:20 PM

Oh common man up and keep it

Pornwolf 01-19-2006 01:20 PM

Two 30's? Dude what the fuck are you doing aerial cartography using Google Earth or something??

um_designs 01-19-2006 02:19 PM

whoah. instead of using eye glasses, you might need a telescope. :winkwink:

Ramos 01-19-2006 02:20 PM

as long as GFY is on your computer screens, cell phones and anything else that will access the net......your good to go

sweetME 01-19-2006 02:25 PM

I like it though

bigdog 01-19-2006 02:26 PM

Some guy here on GFY got two of those 30" Dells for one pc

WebairGerard 01-19-2006 02:40 PM

I would say way too big unless you are giving a presentation. :)

je_rome 01-19-2006 04:29 PM

wow. that's a movie house screen.

JoeMeca 01-19-2006 04:48 PM

bigger is better!

quantum-x 01-19-2006 04:50 PM

Hey Jake.. can I ask, and hopefully not be rude- why do I keep seeing threads about guys buying Dell monitors?
These are samsung monitors rebranded and repriced! Is there something special I;m missing?

BigCashCrew 01-19-2006 04:50 PM

wow, that's pretty nice. It would take a little while to get used to but once you do a 19' monitor will look weird to you. LOL Nice :)
Errol

beemk 01-19-2006 04:50 PM

i like dual better, the way sites and other stuff is optimized when you have the window maximized its just way too much.

Snake Doctor 01-19-2006 04:57 PM

Those would be awesome for online poker.
If you play 4-8 tables at a time you know what I mean.

I Fully agree with the above, a large screen area is no benefit if your only going to fill it with the one window.

BradM 01-19-2006 05:06 PM

Just lower the resolution to 640x480 and you're coo

tony286 01-19-2006 05:07 PM

They look cool and but unless your editing feature motion pictures you really dont need all that monitor screen.

Hunter_ST 01-19-2006 05:07 PM

If you do a lot of video editing, especially HD, a very large dual monitor setup is nice.

Otherwise, I'm thinking overkill... but that's just me :)

Pete-KT 01-19-2006 05:08 PM

Very nice monitor jake looks good

Juicy D. Links 01-19-2006 05:12 PM

surfer on acid 01-19-2006 05:21 PM

damn big ballers. i got "A" 17in. i was considering the big 19in though. :1orglaugh

Quotealex 01-19-2006 05:25 PM

Personally I prefer to work with a pair of smaller same size monitors (17 or 19"). I wouldn't be able to work on two different size screens nor a 30" screen so close to me...

aztecvision 01-19-2006 05:26 PM

it'll grow on you, once the 40" comes out you'll feel like Juicy does now. lol

jeffrey 01-19-2006 05:35 PM

I want a 24" to hook my laptop up to, so if you go dual 30" i call dibs on your 24, lol

looking at samsung I cant see any monitor that looks like the dells, I cant even find a 24 or 30" monitor.
Maybe I just suck at looking.... But I think you mean they use samsung technologies?
