Richard Pryor: Dead

Iconic comic genius, Richard Pryor is dead today at 8:35 after a 19 year battle with multiple sclerosis.

Born Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor, on December 1, 1940 the multi-talented star was pronounced dead of a cardiac arrest at 8:00 am at a hospital near his home.

He is survived by his wife Jennifer Lee Pryor and his six children; Richard Junior, Elizabeth Storder, Rain Kindlin, Kelsey, Steven and Franklin Mason, and his three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private with a memorial service by invitation

eroswebmaster 12-10-2005 02:19 PM

That's a damn shame...sad to see people so talented go in such a way.

I would rather have had him just OD, than to wither away like that.

Pathbreaking Comedian Richard Pryor Dies
Pathbreaking Comedian Richard Pryor Dies at 65
The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - Richard Pryor, the caustic yet perceptive actor-comedian who lived dangerously close to the edge both on stage and off, has died. He was 65.

He died sometime late Friday or early Saturday of a heart attack at his home in the San Fernando Valley, according to his ex-wife Flyn Pryor.

Pryor, whose audacious style influenced an array of stand-up artists, had been ill for years with multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease of the nervous system.

Regarded early in his career as one of the most foul-mouthed comics in the business, Pryor gained a wide following for his expletive-filled but universal and frequently personal insights into modern life and race relations.

Among those most influenced by his comedy were fellow black artists such as Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall and Damon Wayans, as well as Robin Williams, David Letterman and others. Pryor's pioneering success made their roads to stardom all the smoother.

A series of hit comedies in the '70s and '80s, as well as filmed versions of his concert performances, helped make him one of the highest paid stars in Hollywood. He was one of the first black performers to have enough leverage to cut his own Hollywood deals. In 1983, he signed a $40 million, five-year contract with Columbia Pictures.

Among his films: "Stir Crazy," "Silver Streak," "The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings," "Which Way Is Up?" and "Richard Pryor Live on the Sunset Strip."

DirtyDanza 12-10-2005 02:41 PM

well that sucks

Rob 12-10-2005 02:43 PM

Wow, that sucks! He has been in pretty bad shape for the past couple years though. This could be a blessing now that he is no longer suffering.

He paved the way for what we know as comedy today. He will be missed but his legacy will live on forever.

Babagirls 12-10-2005 02:46 PM

whatta loss for us, and a gift for heaven.
he'll be missed :(

corvette 12-10-2005 02:47 PM

I was pissed off. I was so mad. I called Richard Pryor's house up.

I said, "Yo, Richard, Bill Cosby just called me up

"and told me I was too dirty." Richard said:

"The next time motherfcker call, tell him I said, 'Suck my d@ck.'

"I don't give a fuck.

"Whatever the fuck make the people laugh, say that shit."

He said, "Do people laugh when you say what you say?"

I said, "Yes." "Do you get paid?" I said, "Yes."

He said, "Well, tell Bill I said:

'Have a Coke and a smile and shut the f@ck up.'

"The Jell-O pudding-eating motherf@cker."

Nothing but respect. He was a funny, funny man.

BigCashCrew 12-10-2005 02:58 PM

What a shame. He and I were born and raised in the same city Peoria Illinois. Some of my parents friends new him. He was my uncles track partner at Manual High school. When I was a kid we'd go check out the house on High Street where he filmed Jo Jo dancer. He was hilarious. Hell, when I graduated high school I worked at Ruppmans with Richards son. RIP Richard!

candyflip 12-10-2005 03:01 PM

I just watched Stir Crazy and Brewster's Millions a few days ago. They don't make hilarious movies like that anymore.

Rest in Peace you Funny Motherfucker.

MS is a terrible disease. I hope Richard is in a better place now.

Few could make me literally ROFLMAO like Richard Pryor could. He certainly influenced an entire generation of comedians.

In his own words...

I went to penitentiary one time, not me personally, but me and Gene went there for a movie. "Arizona State Penitentiary" Population: 90 percent black people. But there are no black people in Arizona, they have to bus motherfuckers in!

Marriage is really tough because you have to deal with feelings... and lawyers.

How's my mama? I will slap you with my dick.

Fuck'n is good for you, jack. Gettin some pussy beats having a war.

Freebase? What's free about it?"

Bitch was so fine I'd suck her daddys dick

I'm not addicted to cocaine...I just like the way it smells.

I went to Zimbabwe...I know how white people feel in America now, relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!

I never met anybody who said when they were a kid, I wanna grow up and be a critic.

I'd like to make you laugh for about ten minutes, though I'm gonna be on for an hour.

I grew up in Pekin, live 5 minutes from peoria now (Washington, out by ICC), were we still the Chinks when you went to manual or had we already became the Dragons? I know by 1992 we were the Dragons... If you aren't in the area any more, Pekin has lightened up it's racist image quite a bit over the years. I think the mention on Letterman was about when things starting lightening up in that town.

BoyAlley 12-10-2005 03:53 PM

definately a legend...

I'll never forget the standup act he did where he talked about his drug days, lighting himself on fire and shit.... :1orglaugh :1orglaugh
