Ask her first. Don't ask her parents first. Then ask them after she's said yes. What if one of them has a big mouth and tells her?

I think that the beach at sunset is a nice idea. If you can come up with something more original though, that might be cool too. Do you have any special places that you/her have had great times together to ask?

Show what a caring great thoughtful guy you are and incorporate them into the proposal

When you marry a someone, you marry the whole family. So unless YOU live in a third world country and THE PARENTS DON'T, ask first. It shows respect and it will tell you straightaway if you can live with the family you're marrying :2 cents:

If they tell you "no" then move on! They would be a pain in the ass for as long as you're married and eventually erode your relationship with your spouse. And, if you make decent money, say goodbye to half of it...and all because you didn't have the decency to ask first.

Try to do something special for her. Think of a place or a song she likes and work around it. Remember it has to have a special meaning for both of you. Try to organize several surprises one after the other to build up the moment, girls love sweet surprises.
