What do you say when you answer your personal phone ...
 

... if you don't know who is calling? I have always just said "hello?" Just called someone and they were like, "thanks for calling the [LAST NAME] residence this is [FIRST NAME] speaking". Seemed kinda formal.

I never say "hello" first , always waiting for opponents voice

Formal is best -
I say -
"You're paying for this so fucking speak."

We used to answer our phone like that when we were growing up but once telemarketers starting coming into business, we'd just answer "Hello" Never even say [Last name] residence anymore. Our maid always answered "[Last name] residence" though.

Now I don't answer unless I know who it is so I just say say "Hi [whomever is calling]" :)

Wait so you pick up the phone and don't say anything until they say something? If you pick it up right after a ring, would'nt the person on the other end not even know it was picked up until they do not hear the next ringing tone on their end again?

after getting spammed with telemarketers , i just let the machine pick up now , but the damn telemarketers leave a message , i have one stored in memory , voice prompt if your interested press 9 now ,

If I don't recognize the number on caller ID, I answer "Abortion clinic, you make them, we squash them", "City morgue, you stab 'em, we slab 'em", "Necrophiliacs Anonymous, is this for pick up or delivery?" or really anything else gross and disgusting that I can possibly think of at the moment.

Otherwise, a simple "hello".

most people have Caller ID - but they look at the number and answer "hello"?
then they act like they didnt know who it was....wassup with that?

Actually, I just say "hello". I'm fairly polite in real life.

One of my pet peeves is when you answer "hello" and the person on the line says "hi, who is this?". Don't call me and question me...who the fuck are you? Irritating

if i don't know who's calling I always says hello or hi but if i do know the person calling i would normally like "hi (first name)"
