jimthefiend 11-05-2005 05:28 PM

I went to the keys last year. Gonna hit OZ in the spring I think.

I do alot of cave diving here in Indiana, some caves and mines in Missouri and Kentucky. I've done 7 dives in Mammoth and made two trips to the Bonne Terre mine.

MaxCandy 11-05-2005 05:28 PM

Very cool

caves are fresh water dives?

jimthefiend 11-05-2005 05:32 PM

Well the ones in the midwest are. LOL

Cave diving is a WHOLE different thing man. I lost a good friend on a dive in Mammoth in 2003.

Lot bigger skillset needed, even different Eqp. Special certs and the whole bit.

I have cave dived before, i know of what you speak, what happened to your friend?

jimthefiend 11-05-2005 05:38 PM

He got lost, he drowned.

Dude I have been spelunking since 84, I have 600 dives of all sorts in my log, about a 100 of them caves, and I'm a NEWB.

The mortality rates for cave divers are staggering.

jimthefiend 11-05-2005 05:40 PM

I personally knew 5 people who died doing it over the last ten years, I dont know a single one who died on an ocean dive.

That is crazy, i do know one guy who bought farm in ocean dive, but accordind to PADI, you are more likely beening injured during bowling than scuba, but it is true PADI do not like wreck or cave diving

jimthefiend 11-05-2005 06:01 PM

PADI wont sanction cave diving certs anymore.

http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/38/cavediver.html

I got mine from him.

And lemme guess, the guy you know that died got one of those 30 minute crash courses at a resort somewhere. Those oughta be illegal.

I argee...

marty 11-06-2005 04:44 AM

I did the Great Barrier Reef off Cairns earlier this year.

29°C (85°F) water temp 20m (66f) down :thumbsup

Dived the ex-HMAS Brisbane a couple of weeks ago off the Sunshine Coast. The wreck's been down about 6 weeks and offers the "fresh" feel. Doesn't take long for stuff to grow though.

GFX Wiz 11-06-2005 05:33 AM

Diver here...haven't been down much since I moved from Florida -- I sure miss it.

CDSmith 11-06-2005 05:45 AM

Have done one dive, back in '93 while in Acapulco. Took a dive package for $40 US, they took us out to some outter island, gave us all about a 20 minute instructional, and then we dove in about 30 feet of water. We were under for about a hour. Saw me a sea snake I did. :D

Recently I watched the movie "Open Water", in which the couple took a very similar dive tour. Very similar. All I can say is I'm glad that never happened to me.

jimthefiend 11-06-2005 06:24 AM

Padis BASIC open water diver certification involves something like 20 hours of classroom time, 10 or so hours in a pool and 3 supervised open water dives.

AdultInsider Cloner 11-06-2005 06:26 AM

that is an awesome pic!!! I did some diving off the coast of Tanzania in college....it was incredible :)

Its what I want to do once all "this" is over....

retire and run a dive shop for fun.... can't think of anything better or anything I would love more..

Lost all my pics in a HD crash, guess I'll have to focus on getting more.. what a shame.. :1orglaugh

Yup totaly agree, the topside world has no coloring like below...

Sit back, do a drift dive, and marvel at the beauty....

Zoe_Zoebaboe 11-06-2005 01:19 PM

Yup yup, I go out when I can. Would love to get a group trip on the go :)

Azlord 11-06-2005 01:24 PM

I am more of an ass spleunker

Far-L 11-06-2005 01:25 PM

I am getting my Nitrox cert done this week - completely into the scuba experience. Of course I am diving a dry suit up here in the Pacific Northwest and I have yet to do anything tropical but I will get to that soon enough.

Just had a great time off Catalina California in the kelp.

I want to organize trips for webmaster divers at the appropriate conventions in the coming year... so consider this a shout out to all others interested.

Where? Determining the expense of getting there and being on it for a week is step one but I am completely game.(assuming I am welcome of course)

However, I don't expect everyone has the luxury of being able to afford it so figuring a way to make it work for those who would like to be involved is also part of figuring it out.

costs about 1200 a week, all diving, all food and you live on 4 star boat

Big_Papi 11-08-2005 09:57 PM

I did a lot of scuba diving during the four years I lived I Okinawa. Absolutely beautiful. I was told that Jacques Custo said if he could pick one last place to dive before he died, he would pick the Kerama Islands off the coast of Okinawa. I'm moving to Hawaii in a year so I plan to take up diving again once I get there. Beautiful pics btw. :thumbsup

Rob 11-08-2005 10:01 PM

I'm not certified but I've been diving a lot of times. Mainly lobster diving in South Florida. I've never gone in anything over 20' deep so I consider it snorkelling with a tank. :winkwink:

Vitasoy 11-08-2005 10:41 PM

Can't see I ever done it :(

Lionheart 11-09-2005 12:19 AM

21 years. Been there. Done everything. Love it. Master Diver as well. Waiting for fucking MIKE to call me up and ask me to go diving with him again someday. He has been ignoring me for a couple years now....and it makes me sad. :-(

Sam Granger 11-09-2005 01:37 AM

I've done scuba diving in the carribbeans which kicked ass.
