long distance relationships...

would you ever consider entering into a serious relationship with someone who lives 1000+ miles from you? or better to just let it remain a casual fling?

i've always been curious how people do this, even if they have the means to travel frequently. thoughts?

Shoehorn! 10-28-2005 01:51 AM

I personally couldn't handle that. :2 cents:

nofx 10-28-2005 01:58 AM

if either person has trust issues, long distance is VERY hard

if not, go for it

I did the long distance thing for 2 years and I couldnt handle it anymore and said FUCK it and dumped the bitch.

stevo 10-28-2005 01:58 AM

Depends on the girl... Too many factors. Do you trust her, does she trust you? Is she willing to move, are you willing to move? Is there a chance you will be living together or close in the near future? Is she worth the time and effort (lots of traveling and long phone calls)? How serious are you? Etc...

I say commitment is over rated, if your having great sex......don't rock the boat. Feel me?

quiet 10-28-2005 02:00 AM

this isn't about me at all, already have my own opinions... but i am interested in what others have to say about it.

Then again, if you are having great sex then your probably having your boat rocked....

Hey, I did it. :) My current marriage started out as a very long-distance relationship (3000 miles I think). I met my wife in an IRC trivia game.

I also kept a very intense relationship going long-distance for over a year when I was 17, BEFORE internet. In the end it wasn't the distance that ruined it.

TDF 10-28-2005 09:00 AM

long distance never works

Doctor Dre 10-28-2005 09:15 AM

If you travel a lot ... chances are that you're gonna have a couple of thoses in diff cities ... my friend does that

Argonaut 10-28-2005 09:20 AM

don't think i could do it, need sex too much

Juicy D. Links 10-28-2005 09:21 AM

Never BRo.....

I consider long distance anything more than 10 miles from me.

Sheri Santiago 10-28-2005 09:21 AM

We did it for about 5 months until Easton moved down to Arizona...I don't think I could have done it if I didn't know he was eventually moving here though.

chupachups 10-28-2005 09:21 AM

Did it, about 1500 miles distance. Worked pretty well, though it ended for other reasons :)

Serge Litehead 10-28-2005 09:22 AM

4 years in LD relashionship, good time, interesting travel destinations (she studied abroad). that was it, marriage proposal didn't went through although was in consideration for some time. took a hard hit, didn't do anything for couple of years.
Would i consider doing it again? sure i would, but it would not be serious until we're close enough, distance wise too.
5 of my buds got married through IRC back in 96-99 , 4 of them are happy and some have kids now.

you definately got some options but in all honesty you're not together unless you're together, no matter how you look at it.

Herb Kornfield 10-28-2005 09:34 AM

It makes great for fuck buddies but not anyone that you want to make your partner and have a "real" relationship with.

You dont really know someone until you live with them :)

My view is that if the people are really into each other, they'd be wanting more than anything to be together as best they can. You would figure out a way to get a new life together and set up shop in a new area... not saying that this is you in paticular... just how it is for anyone....

You can make money anywhere, you can live anywhere on the earth and make a life out of it... its who you share it with is what matters. :thumbsup

Pornwolf 10-28-2005 09:35 AM

Long distance is only for the very young. After college age it's not possible.

Sosa 10-28-2005 10:01 AM

I couldn't do it. Wouldn't even try it.

Phoenix 10-28-2005 10:04 AM

if it is worth it...you will find yourself booking flights...if youhave to woner about it...it is probably just a casual thing

MetaMan 10-28-2005 10:06 AM

depends on the person, if it is 100% worth it then why not?
there is nothing wrong with dedicating yourself to someone, i have done it before, it didnt end up working out in the end but it was 100% worth it and definatley a possitive expierience in my life.

you have to have to UTMOST trust for the person or you will kill yourself thinking to much especially the fact you never are 100% sure what they are up to.

ssp 10-28-2005 10:14 AM

Never ever do long distance. I've seen them all try it and they all failed. A relationship is more than a good talk over the phone.

Kevsh 10-28-2005 10:21 AM

1000 miles? Nothing to it, I've had much farther. ;)

Seriously, it's no walk in the park and realistically, unless one of you makes the move - quickly - it won't last.

GlydeGirl 10-28-2005 10:27 AM

As a swinger, I have many long distance lovers with whom I've been able to continue to foster relationships that have lasted more than 10 years, and that are still going strong (and will likely be lifelong). But I also have been living happily in a primary non-monogamous live-in relationship for the past 8 years, so that satisfies my needs for a day-to-day spousal relationship.

I think that long distance works great if you aren't seeking a spouse-type of commitment from your lover!

WiredGuy 10-28-2005 10:38 AM

I don't like the idea of it, but being so mobile and flexible with my work, I could easily move for longer periods of time to be with someone if she's that special to me.

Been there.

The concept of a distance relationship wasn't bad.

Just the person I had one with.

loverboy 10-28-2005 10:47 AM

been there and never worked for me

amandaspost 10-28-2005 11:01 AM

Long distance relationships hardly ever work out

sinclair 10-28-2005 11:47 AM

Currently in one. About 500 miles. It has its ups and downs like anything, but I think it is worth it. With ICQ, phone, email, monthly visits, its not as bad as I thought it would be.

Mr. Jim 10-28-2005 12:32 PM

Having spent long periods of time out of the US, I have beeninvolved in several. The thing that is unavoidable is not being there to experience things with the person who you care about. Over time it really starts to dissolve. The one thig all relationships need is touch. Sentimental offerings and expression will only go so far before the primal need for contact is needed. The relationship turns into fantasy really...there is very little true exchange of emotion unless written or spoken.

I know it works for some but I sincerely believe they are a waste of time and can bring about some real depression issues

Th!nk 10-28-2005 09:45 PM

i think long distance relationships will never work out. distance is some what a big factor for partners.

Furious_Female 10-28-2005 10:06 PM

Napolean and I lived 600 miles apart when we met.... he just moved here 2 weeks ago :)

SleazyDream 10-28-2005 11:18 PM

if it's someone i really like i'd move

miss wild 10-29-2005 08:09 PM

It depends on you both but based from my experienced as long as you really love each other it will work and the most important you'll have a communication and TRUST to each other :)
