I used to have a bootleg tape of the Police and on it Sting intoduced the next song they were about to play as, "we've never song this song in public before but here goes." then they played Message in a Bottle. Some fucker stole the tape about 4 years ago though.
|
I saw them live in 1976 lmao :) Even hung out behind the arena when they came out. They were newbies back then. David had a girl on each arm and got into 1 limo, but Eddie and the rest just looked at their feet and got in a seperate limo, lol :)
|
I consider eddie to be top 5 of all time, I know its subjective but he is amazing
|
Thanks
Jesus, Eddie is awesome. Have you seen the guitars he's custom building? I read they aren't the best, but fuck it. If it's custom designed by him it's worth paying a few grand for.
He was the Wiz Kid for sure ;) |
ive got access to the actual demos that van halen did with gene simmons before theyre deal with warners
anyone interested in hearing anything? |

from what ive read and heard (from people who were friends and working for them, actually my friends older brother was there soundman right up till the first record) eddie had a few different versions of eruption, some nights he would tap some not - in that version you posted you can hear some parts that make up the eruption thats on VH1 the story goes templeman (the bands producer) heard him warming up with it before a show and thought it should be showcased on the record - eddie and templeman picked the best parts of the various versions and pieced together what you hear today - eddie credits donn landee (engineer on all van halen recordings and produced later on in the sammy days) with making eruption sound like it does. templeman had alot to do with molding the van halen sound. when i get done getting those gene simmons demos mp3ed and uploaded youll hear what im talking about. |

1984 - Winnipeg Arena.... their last tour with Dave.....their warmup act was a then-little known group went by the name Bon Jovi, which I fell asleep for believe it or not. Later we moved up to row 2 front and center for VH. One of the best concerts I've been to.

The Simmons demos and other ancient VH party recordings and demos have been around for years, check LimeWire. They're all over the place.

Love it or hate it any REAL music aficionado would know that even if you despise the sound the credit that can be given to this man for the profound influence he has had on the shaping of the modern "Rock" sound in nothing short of a phenomenon. For many years the EVH sound was the benchmark all others would be measured by and to say that Boy George is more compelling may be your personal taste but you description of "masturbatory bullshit" is ironic since I find your comment to be simply that.... A "Hey look how smart I am and different too" jab that was less intended to point out your difference in taste, but more to show how smart you are by being different. Need proof..... Tell me you are not a wine snob and that you do not own John Mayor CD's Until then Reverend Church of the Poison Mind.... I'll take my Eruption |
I like it a lot :thumbsup

:1orglaugh
I am not a wine snob and I don't own john mayer cd's. The REAL music aficionados you know are total wankers apparently. These clowns didn't influence one musician or band I've ever enjoyed listening to. As a matter of fact, Van Halen is indeed benchmark. Around musicians that I respect they and all their cock rock arena hair metal contemporaries are THE example of everything music should not be. I often think that that period in music is undoubtebly the worst and most embarrasing in history. The gimmicks, the athletics, the terrible songwriting, the terrible lyricism, the image, everything. Totally embarrasing. You don't have to be a wine snob or listen to contemporary corny lite rock like john mayer to understand why music like this is such a joke. You do have to have an appreciation for what it means to be an artist. Sorry if that sounds too snobby for you. Art is something I'm not too casual about. |
Havalina must be feelin' rather own`d by now :1orglaugh
Well said JH... |
Owned by someone who just made an argument for van halen by calling me out on something completely unfounded?
I wonder how many people are gonna listen to Van Halen in 50 years :1orglaugh Only in your world, amongst your friends, buddy. Keep rockin... :1orglaugh |

Given that Van Halen released their first album in `78 and they're still on the radio (and touring) today...chances are high their work will enjoy an appreciative audience far into the future. |
