Ex Cig Smokers. Read me please.......................

When you quit smoking did it make you FREAKINNNNNNNNN Hungry like crazy?

My god, i eat 2 times as much than i used to, and i want food and sweets more now. i am a lean person, skinny actually and this probably isnt a bad thing considering that i am working out again, but WOW, do i eat like i am 6'5 and throw hay bales for fun.

:1orglaugh

friday is gonna be 2 weeks without anything bad for me besides a few beers.

Dagwolf 09-14-2005 05:01 PM

Dexatrim... helps cigarette cravings as well as food cravings, in my experience. I think they might have changed the formula since I used it though.

Prepare to pork up. :D When I quit, I gained 10 lbs. I don't normally eat sweets and snacks, but holy shit! I was grubbing ice cream, candy bars, pringles, everything. You name it, I was shoving it in my face. It was disgusting! LOL I ate more sweets that first couple weeks than I did the last 4 years.

now all i need is for hal to teach me how to make my abs like his :thumbsup

Spunky 09-14-2005 05:13 PM

I started smoking again to avoid the excess weight gain :(

Mako 09-14-2005 05:14 PM

Yup, you're going to blow right up, most ex-smokers gain 20 to 30lbs. Part of it is the oral fixation, part of it is trying to satisfy the brain's pleasure centers, which were used to a "fix" every couple hours previously.

Never saw any of my ex-smoker friends "bulk up" lol, just too many calories that first six months. Afterward it will stabilize and you'll need to diet.

CybermedAndy 09-14-2005 05:14 PM

Stick with it Airek, I've quit a bunch of times, for good like 3 years ago. Stick it out now and you'll thank yourself later.

lisa k 09-14-2005 05:16 PM

Chewing gum and having hard candy and suckers around helped me ...

thats what helped me get past even day 3. once day 4 came i didnt want cigs anymore. then came those damn cravings. lol.

the chances of me gaining weight in a bad kinda way are about as good as winning the state lotto. i was more or less asking about eating more jsut to see if its a trend with people who smoked and quit. i've still got the metabolism and energy of a field mouse.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

toddler 09-14-2005 05:50 PM

yeah, its fairly common. Endorphins one way or another. keep with the exercise, you'll be fine. (just try and stay away from massive amounts of sugar...)

WarChild 09-14-2005 05:53 PM

Yeah man, gained 20 pounds when I quit smoking. Almost 6 months now without smoking. I figured I can lose the 20 pounds easily enough, the cigarettes were a bigger problem.

Try this if you're worried, get diabetic lollipops. Most big stores with a bulk section sell them, if not you'll have to go to a health food store. Worked great for me.

tranza 09-14-2005 06:54 PM

yeah, it happens...it's a way out your body finds to compensate it

Hal usually never reveals the trick, but I will let you in on a secret... worked very well for me and obviously for Hal -> Dog Style.

Dog style is the only method for sexual contact for 3 months. There must be a minimum of 15 minutes of fucking. You will feel it the next day and for 3 days after if you have done it correctly. Repeat.

As for the hunger... that is called addiction. Addiction ties into the brains 'need' path and tricks the body, in the only way the body knows is necessary... eat. The addiction for cigarettes and heroin are the same physically as hunger.

selena 09-14-2005 07:35 PM

Yep, it happens, but after time it kind of levels off. Though after 4 years, I still chew gum like crazy!

Hang in there.

I quit twice in my life, neither time did I gain weight. It is all psychological.

MrIzzz 09-14-2005 08:50 PM

i put on 35 lbs over the first year that i quit, and not until 5 years later did i lose that weight.

i gained 20 lbs when i quit 5 months ago. (just had my 5 month quit-anniversary the other day).

alot had to deal with the oral fixation (shut up!), and then after I stopped smoking, i got my sense of smell back (i could smell fuckin RAIN for christs sakes lol) and my taste buds felt like they were alive for the first time, so i wanted to eat everything that tasted good.

Perfect advice. There are plenty of sugar-free hard candies on store shelves from all the manufacturers. Trust me mighty-mouse A1R3K, you are not immune to the 20lb blow up, fast metabolism or not, nor will it be "muscle" lol...

Use those tips from the others, but sugar-free candy owns. Get a ton of it.

toddler 09-14-2005 09:00 PM

doggy style does indeed work for the abs...

anything worth approaching should be approached cautiously. :thumbsup

if i gain more than another 3% body fat i will take everyone in this thread to a lavish dinner. :winkwink:

that 3% would take me to about 15 - 7% at most

bookmark this thread for january vegas 06 :)

SAM SIYC 09-14-2005 10:26 PM

congrats!! :thumbsup

kept on eating all the time after I quit smoking!!! and gained a lot of weight. really didn't need those extra pounds :Oh crap

they say you gain an average of 10 pounds.....didn't stop at 10 for me

they say you have to learn how to control food cravings since they only last 5min. good luck....maybe they only last 5min but they came back every 10 min :food-smil

Gungadin 09-14-2005 10:31 PM

Good luck bro, labor day was a year for me.

seeric 09-14-2005 10:46 PM

nice. lots of ex smokers

not that smokers are bad, its jsut a decision you make at a certain time in life.

wow.

i am going to bed, need to make my unmottivated ass run in the morning.

:)

poppet 09-14-2005 10:49 PM

Congrats hon!! And yes, I went nuts when I quit smoking. So I keep some lollipops to deal with the cravings, and I'm always doing something with my hands (keep your mind out of my gutter, please).

Keep it up, you've made it through the hardest part! :)

dropped9 09-14-2005 10:51 PM

the only time i really get cravings is late at night and when i go fishing....

I just make me somethin good to drink or ignore it...

iwantchixx 09-14-2005 11:05 PM

friday is gonna be 2 weeks without anything bad for me besides a few beers.

your sense of smell is back thus the food tastes 2 times better. Its common for people who quit smoking to gain alot of weight for that reason.

Congrats on kicking the cancer sticks! :pimp

Cigarets are a stimulant... Just like caffeine. Thus, suppress your apatite. :winkwink:

If you want to bulk up and have AB's like hal, you'll have to take on a new way of life. Beyond rigorous workouts, and heavy cardio, you'll need to completely change your diet as well. :2 cents:

Hit me up if you want some advice... I got the skinny' on the ab's bro. :thumbsup

Drink a lot of water, it actually helped me with the craving for cigarettes. ALWAYS have carrots, fruits etc handy, if you feel like "snacking". Eat as much as you want, as long as all you are eating extra is fruits and vegetables. Otherwize you will just end up with sugar cravings as well. I am guessing you are not looking for a new addiction :winkwink:

Good luck!

seeric 09-15-2005 10:41 AM

yep i am working on the abssssssss everyday

situps crunchs etc

Tera 09-15-2005 10:44 AM

I quit smoking 8 days ago! I excersize a lot and I find that has helped a ton with the quitting.. I dont find I eat more, I stick to a pretty healthy diet and have for awhile, I don't crave sweets at all anymore.

My boyfriend quit too and all I can say is he's so going to gain that 20 pounds! He is eating like crazy!

Honez 09-15-2005 10:50 AM

Congrats on almost 2 weeks ciggy free!

Also decided to do some lifting myself yesterday, all upperbody, and my arms are so fucking sore! I havent lifting in quite awhile now :1orglaugh

Little King 09-15-2005 11:05 AM

I started jogging when I quit. That way I was too knackered to be able to eat most of the time.

dennisthemenace 09-15-2005 11:07 AM

Drink more water.

Of course I didn't.. quit on January 15th of this year and have gained 28 pounds since...

But I'm having surgery tomorrow and will need to be on a low fat diet for 6 months so I should finally take my weight more seriously and be looking decent by the new year..

Keep going strong on your quit!

seeric 09-15-2005 11:23 AM

That's quite a bit and there are no signs of slowing down. I am very very hungry now.

how you doin? :winkwink: hehe

if you think your plan would work on a woman as well, let me know. right now im just trying to shed my pounds (1 hour of cardio, 3 times a week) and eating fruits & veggies 90% of the time, and low/non-fat the other 10% of the time.

i used to have abs when i was 16 from kickboxing everyday but since i stopped, i lost them right away. i was still skinny, but just lost the abs.

anyways, hit me up on yahoo messenger (if you have it): Babagirls18 or baba at babagirl.com if you think your plan would work on a female :)

KGucci 09-15-2005 11:30 AM

I started jogging when I quit and told myself I was a non smoker.

It takes 21 days to form a habit. You're almost there.

Keep it up playa!!! :thumbsup

poisson 09-15-2005 11:33 AM

Almost 2 weeks here to!

I'm also eating much but needed to get some fat.

Good job.
