what will mad.com go for?

Hey guys, some of you remember when we had the Massive Adult Directory up on mad.com (a few yrs back)... Since then, it's been vacant and now we'll see what a name of this caliber will get on the open market:

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...m=200459 4308

How high do you guys think it'll go?

Shoplifter 02-20-2002 04:25 PM

And they turned down $400k for it...lol

Kicking themselves these days I bet.

Rocky 02-20-2002 04:46 PM

i think mad.tv would do better
:winkwink:

Darren 02-20-2002 05:22 PM

2k so far no reserve i would pay 2k for it.

payrollpete 02-20-2002 05:50 PM

I never thought i would see this day :)

Wiredoctor 02-20-2002 06:04 PM

Actually the name kinda sucks, unless your the MAD magazine...
whoever didnt take the offer of 400k, is 1 stupid mofo...

Keev 02-20-2002 06:34 PM

i know nj.net just sold for around 25-35k

So mad.com would go for at least 100-200k

rankscom 02-20-2002 06:55 PM

The high offer was for $225k, and we were lookin for $300k - $400k at the time. We're definately stupid mofo's for not sellin at that time!!!

p.s. definately don't mean to spam, i figured people would be interested in knowing how this auction turned out. :)

SykkBoy 02-20-2002 06:57 PM

It's 6K right now with 6 days to go. So it will probably go for 10x that.

Brujah 02-21-2002 12:23 AM

I bid $6001!

Pipecrew 02-21-2002 12:24 AM

I sold Teenresource.com back in the day for 15,000 USD.... wouldnt pay 100 USD for it now :)

cgiGeek 02-21-2002 10:17 AM

How about this one.

Christ Easter.com

Only 10,000,000. Ends today so you better hurry and get your bid in.

Maybe that is Yen not dollars.

rankscom 02-26-2002 10:55 AM

For those who were curious, mad.com reached it's $60,000 auction buyout price which forced us to close the auction on eBay! In fact, we received 3 offers at $60k or above, one at $75k (but not payable right away). It's good to see the domain aftermarket still has some buy power for top notch names.

on a related note..... aren't ip addresses running out and fast? I remember a solution to this problem but can't recall.....so under this assumption, won't domains become more valuable with time and isnt this the same reason that all the .whatevers are being shot down?

4Pics 02-26-2002 02:25 PM

hmm

yeah in time ip addresses will run out. they have to make a version of tcp/ip higher than 32 bit. boy will that be fun.

NetRodent 02-26-2002 04:29 PM

Beemk,

A replacement to the current 32 bit IPv4 has been underdevelopment for quite a while. IPv6 addresses are 128 bits long.
