I was under the impression that google has been doing this forever.. those ad spots are not new.

On the other hand, I'd be curious to know what your results are like. Overture so far has been fucking me.

Check out this correspondence so far:

AND Finally, I SAID:

Thank you for the list.

Would it be possible for you to explain why I don't show up in any of the
sites on the list?
Any bets on what happens next??

facough 02-19-2002 11:38 PM

Overture USED to rock. Now they have nazi like guidelines and are frickin useless. I cut my spending down from $2500 a month to $200.

geoff 02-19-2002 11:45 PM

they've had adwords for ages, which is their per impression program which is the two links at the top of the search results plus the tables on the right.

where is a url for their ppc submissions?

teadrinker 02-19-2002 11:51 PM

its right beside it man...

AdultWire 02-19-2002 11:58 PM

It's kind of bothersome to me that their responses indicate they have not even INVESTIGATED my claim -- they've just sent form letters in response to everything. If I helped influence just one webmaster to cut his overture budget, I feel I have served my purpose here. Of course, in fairness, if I ever extraordinarily good service from them, I will post about that as well.

geoff 02-19-2002 11:59 PM

aahhh ..... found it ..... AdWords Select

facough 02-20-2002 12:04 AM

all my campaigns are non-adult related, but even so I got treated as poorly as you. those canned email responses look all too familier.

they shouldn't upset anyone, after they killed all my listings I got to thinking how easily their entire business model could be taken down. Get a few thousand surfers to start recklessly clicking on the $1+ bids, inform the advertisers, boom... no more Overture :)

Theo 02-20-2002 12:15 AM

adwords existed before, but they burned many people! many impressions, few clicks,no profit

they turned it to ppc, smart and fair movement

AdultWire 02-20-2002 12:26 AM

I think I get upset about it, because I have a very different approach to business. I've been thinking about pushing mass adult-hosting as a new product, but I've avoided it, because I don't have the facilities scale my support team at the kind of breakneck pace that would require.

I guess there's other ways of doing business.. and they can make money too.. heh..

funkmaster 02-20-2002 08:09 AM

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=OVER&d=c&k=c4&t=1d

.. check it out, I bet overture will not like it ... OVER droped by 10%

AdultWire 02-20-2002 08:22 AM

Sure.. the adult webmaster community makes up a good portion of their revenue, and they treat us like shit. Apparently, even the non-adult site owners have been treated like shit recently.

I wonder how long it will be before "Cathy" from Overture starts hanging out in this BB (no disrespect intended to Cathy from I-Bill who I think, despite serious obstacles, is trying to appease the masses here).

Sleepy 02-20-2002 08:23 AM

Fuck Overture ... goto/about/dmoz can kiss off too.
Cant give away any secrets here, sorry, but they arent needed to do business or make money.

Have you EVER found what you were looking for on those sites ? .....yeah, well neither have their surfers.

DarkJedi 02-20-2002 08:29 AM

sooooo............does it mean we'll be out of free google traffic pretty soon ? all the pay sites going to buy keywords ?

funkmaster 02-20-2002 08:31 AM

... what makes google´s system special is, that no matter how hight the 2nd position is, you will only be charged 1cent more to stay on top. with all other ppc engines it is different, you´ll always pay what you selected, google´s system is adjusting your bid price ... and this will cost OVER, no more stupid overbidding !

well, there are bidding tools out there, like http://www.gotoast.com/, but (correct me if I am wrong) most ppc´s have banned them ...

adultmatchdoctor 02-20-2002 09:41 AM

What is the mimimun PPC you can do on google?
By the way evertime i try and get it their system it says its under maintenence they must be getting slammed.

teadrinker 02-20-2002 10:23 AM

Nedder 02-20-2002 10:52 AM

Nz

teadrinker 02-20-2002 11:00 AM

A case could be made for that you know. A guy looking for free porn can't find it, well finally he buys something...
