How many of you needed a gun to defend yourself in your house?

Yeah yeah we know you all have guns for self defense. Now how many of you actually ever needed it to defend your house.

More than once when the ghetto started spilling into our neighborhood.

I have. I had an instance where some tweekers decided to come into my house. So me and Mr. Shotgun showed them how to taste the floor while I waited close to an hour for the police to show up.

I hope I never, ever have to use mine. I don't think anyone wants to have to use it, but its your right to do so if you're protecting your life. Guns aren't the problem, people with nothing to lose are the problem.

Have a 9mm handgun.
Never needed to use it for protection.
Probably never will.
Just bought it to shoot paper targets at the gun range.

I also own a car.
Very deadly.
Haven't caused any fatalities with it, as I intend to use it for getting me from point A to B and not let someone inexperienced with driving it, use it.

How many times have you NEEDED a car, when public transportation would work just fine? There are a lot of things people don't NEED.

I'm all for the right to keep and arm bears (so they can fight back against hunters :) ) even though I personally do not own a gun, unless you count a pellet gun.

When the police arrived and searched them and their vehicle they found a 9mm under the seat. The tweekers themselves were sort of armed, one had a crow bar and the police found a box cutter in the sock of the other one.

I need a gun to kill deer and other defenseless animals. But then again if I didn't car insurance would be even more!

I will be back later tonight to make my case. Right now I actually have to get some work done.......btw, when somone sticks a gun in your face, you suddenly realize how bad it sucks to need one and not have it.......... I will be back.

I did, twice.
once when I came home from work at about 4 in the afternoon some crackhead is going out the backdoor with my stuff, so I pulled my gun and shoot the s-o-b in the arm. next day I boarded the backdoor up so they can't get in.
another time they broke in while I was in here and damn near killed me. I shoot the son of a bitch in the gut and he ran out the front door and down the street. I didn't bother to chase him, what for, he is gone.

How true that sounds. I spent this weekend in Vegas. There were plenty of times stuck in traffic where I reached to 3:00, and not finding anything there.

Granted nothing happened, but having some idiot shout into my car with my kids in the backseat, stupid drunk gibberish would have been more than enough. That group of "gangstas" walked away, but what if they didn't, was flashing through my mind. At home in FLA, I would have an answer.

I've had people break in my house while I was home (this was before I owned a gun). I've had stalkers show up at my house both before AND after I bought my first gun. I need my guns for protection. All the police reports I've had to file can back up my position.

Nope all of mine were bought for hunting but all can be used for p[rotection if needed :)

Well they were tweekers so that puts them in the not so bright category. They knew I am in a wheelchair so maybe they figured they would not need it anyways.

Though I will go with they were idiots. I was in another room at first and what alerted me to their presence was their cell phone. It not only went off but one of the stupid idiots answered it and began talking to some tweekerette.

I was raised in a household where guns were a form of protection and also used for hunting... Never experienced having to use one on anyone. Thank God!

I had a guy enter my old house he was a mexican I heard him comming in my front door... so I waited.... he came in and I grabed the back of his head put my HK right behind his ear at a 45 angle and asked him what the fuck he was doing... I could have shot him.. the law says I could have shot him... but I felt no threat so I did not shoot but if he would have done so much as moved his hands anywhere but in the air I would have shot him on the spot.....

agreed... I rock a IWB at 4o'clock and always feel to make sure it's there when your walking anywhere... and I live here.. you should have hit me up we could have went out....

In the highly unlikely case that I need to defend my wife and kids in the house, I have a 12 gauge handy.

Honestly I have tried to explain to others why Americans and firearms go together and they just can not and do not understand. Most go into the talk or debate with blinders on and a belief that will not change no matter the facts. I at the very least go into an argument with a solid idea that could be altered.

Guns were designed to kill people. I've only known one person in my life here in Vancouver who has owned a gun, and it was a long rifle he used for hunting. I no friends, no family, no one I have ever known has ever been in any situation where they would need a gun. I understand the US is alot more violent, so owning a gun could make you feel safer. And it doesn't help that so many bad guys in the US are armed, using guns they either stole from a house, or bought from someone who stole the gun from a house. It's a vicious circle. The more legally owned and registered guns there are in the US, the more illegally owned (and most likely stolen) guns there will be.

Racial stereotyping!!! I had no idea every chinese person fresh off the boat went straight into the triads and such. Even with the crackheads and meth addicts here in Vancouver, I've never actually seen any violence here first hand, with the exception of the time I was 13. A homeless guy who threatened to have his way with my mother if we didn't give him some change was quickly knocked unconcious by my father who had been walking a bit ahead of us. I guess the homeless guy was unaware the muscle mass that was my father at the time was also married to my mother :1orglaugh

No words can describe how hard I smacked myself in the forhead when I read the above statement. If you want personal protection, move out of the ghetto. I've been to the United States dozens of times. I've been all over it, north, south, east and west. Never have I encountered any of these 'scumbags' or 'criminals' you speak of. Never have I seen any violence first hand while down there, either.

My above post mentioning terrified Americans who feel their society is so dangerous that they must own a firearm rings true.

I like guns but I don't own anything but a rusted up .22 I doubt it would even shoot. I live on beach side over here in Daytona Beach and there are some rough areas but I've never felt the need to have a gun.

Most I've ever done was carried a knife when I go up to the boardwalk at night or places like that. There are some punk thugs that run around and some wack jobs as well but I don't see the need to carry anything other than a knife from time to time.

I dunno why so many people are so obsessed with carrying guns for protection.

I've never encountered an inpolite Chinese person here, however, I have had many East Indians attempt to pick fights with me for literally no reason what-so-ever. I'm serious, several years back, I was at a gaming cafe with my younger brother. While we were leaving, a group of them was outside the door talking about their various encounters with the law and their upcoming court dates (seriously, they were bragging about it). One of them, who was shorter than my brother (who was probably 5'6) at the time, walks up to my brother, gets right into his face and says, "is this the guy that was giving you the problems, dawg?" to one of his friends.

Fortinutly, his friend wasn't as much of an asshole as he was and told him it was someone else. The midget bastard was this close to getting knocked the fuck out.

The way I see it, the likelyhood of a bunch of adolenscant East Indians having a gun is slim. I suspected he had a knife on him, but that's about it. Guns are difficult to buy legally here, which would explain the lack of guns in homes for criminals to steal and use to further their not-so-honest careers.

Having said that, if someone ever pulled a gun on me, I'd probably wish I had a gun on me as well. However, the likelyhood of that ever happening to an honest tax payer like myself is extremely slim, as I don't hang around in alleys in gang controlled area's of Vancouver :winkwink:
