Making the Change to XP
Hey folks, bout to drop some cash and get a new system tonight. And it occured to me that most if not all new systems are running XP right? well are all my old lil thumb maker programs and batch this and that gonna work smoothly? Im certain Dreamweaver and all my macromedia shit will work, but havent really toyed with the new OS yet.
I am guessing they will work fine, and learning curves are fun, but wanted to get a lil feedback. Thanks in advance. |
There is no learning involved... XP simply sucks ass. If you have the option, format c: and install Win2k.
I've made my own little eXPerience and now I'm glad that I'm on 2k again. |
You're better off with Windows 2000 pro.
There were a lot of negative posts about XP a while back. Do a search for them. :2 cents: |
Search or just slighlty move your head up a little.
|
Screw you Equinox, get out of here, I'm helping him not YOU!!
|
Stop yelling at me, motherfucker !
|
Whatever, just get the fuck out of here, he doesn't want to hear your hatred for XP.
You don't even know what Xp is. |
XP rocks. :2 cents:
|
I Love XP, but it needs a bit of initial tweaking to remove the bubbly shit...but it definetely knocks 98's dick in the dirt. I've never tried 2000 so I have no basis for comparison.

I took my daughter to visit her mother while there my ex asked to to set up her new compute. The computer came with modem. network card and general stuff installed including XP. Well I check it and the network card didnt work, why well it didnt have a signed certificate or something like that for XP so XP would not install it. That made me just want to run out and get xp for my computers "not" Brian |

Maybe it was some sort of preview release. I have unsigned XP DSL drivers, it complained, but you just click to override. Like it or not M$ is going to be stopping all support for anything less than XP very soon if they haven't already. Save yourself the pain of not being able to get/use the latest drivers and just upgrade. M$ are going to drag you kicking and whining to the next version, like it or not. Sorry. |

we call it an ID 10 T error :1orglaugh XP is way better for the home user than 2000 unless you're on a network ;) most of the complaints sounds like the users don't know how to use the operating system more than the operating system being a problem... no offence to anyone |

needs a lot of tweaking. heh

XP is a piece of useless shit. It's designed for the fucking feel-good teeny bopper bubblegum bitch / afterschool little johnny soccer player / idiot housewife AOL user. It's fucking crap. I say this from a purely objective point of view. Functionality reigns supreme, and XP ain't got it. Oh sure.... they got lots of bells & fucking whistles to make you THINK it's more functional.... when it's really more functional for Microsoft. Yeah.... they're trackin' your fuckin ass now baby.... how you like your 6 hardware upgrades? Hope you didn't blow 'em all on a bad NIC install. Any serious poweruser does not require, nor want, that prettied up $2 dollar whore of an OS. Fuck Microsoft. Fuck their dev team. Fuck Bill Gates. And Fuck XP. Support? The only fucking software support I've EVER needed is ME. Long Live Win2K Pro. :smokin |
I don't understand all of the complaints about XP. I've used Windows 3.x, 95, 98, ME, and now XP. I still use 98 at home, but my new box at work came with XP (thanks to Tanker....).
ME was nice - I plug something new into, and presto - I can use it with no hassle. XP...... Knows exactly what I plug into it, and I don't need to do anything. It does't matter what it is - Scanner, digital camera, peerless drive...... When we first plugged my XP box into our network, it automatically set itself. I didn't have do a single thing, and I was added to the network. The only problem I've had with XP was with ICQ...... But I worked around that one. And I don't understand all of this Microsoft bashing. I was into computers before we had operating systems, and Windows is a great improvement. Without Windows, the average dumb ass wouldn't be able to use a computer. I'm not a huge fan of Microsoft, but until someone builds a better OS I refuse to bash Microsoft. |

thats what I mean by a network :) not just a couple of computers hooked up together |
everybody talking shit about MS
I'm sure the OS you wrote is better ;) let me ask you, are there any other operating systems that have so much hardware support? Have you checked the HCL list? And another point, if it wasn't because of MS we would not be where we are right now. |

XP is good if you dont mind having to do a little extra network configuration and driver finding. Most companies that make software and hardware for computers haven't perfected the drivers for XP.
Most drivers that work for 2000, ME, & NT work for XP. But the ones that don't (Which seem to be the programs you need most) you can expect to spend hours on the phone with the companies tech support trying to configure. I spent 2 hours on the phone with the Netgear folks trying to make my Wireless Networking card work with my XP & Roadrunner (who also don't offer support for XP yet). Otherwise XP does some good things. It automatically recognizes camera and video equipment for easy media transfer and editing without having to use the included software. That helps a lot. |
i have windows xp
icq fucked up http://www.sweetnude.com/error.jpg TAKE A LOOK... its happens that on some programs:feels-hot |
hey, but as long as it looks pretty.... :throwup
|
XP just looks like it should be called "My First Computer". God its so god damn sugary sweet and friendly. Makes we wanna fucking puke everytime I see one. I thought Win98 was pushing it with the user friendly GUI.
What has happened? Computers used to strike fear in people. Cold and dark, like a nice telnet session should be. Now everything is all big and clunky and looks like it was made by a 16 year old girl. Even fucking gramma can plug and play her digital cam into her new shiny computer box and send email around the globe 3 minutes after she popping off pics of grandpa. You know what that would have taken just 5 or 6 years ago? You couldnt. The mere thought of a broadband connection in my house, a 100 gig hard drive and 500 megs of ram was a fantasy land. Not too mention all the warez and mp3s. All the idiots are on the internet now. I hate you and your pretty computers. I would feel dirty if I had to use one. |

maybe 98 THEN! you would have had to restart your computer but now with XP its almost impossible to crash the OS itself |

What?!! You onoy get that on ICQ???
I get that error on every fuvking program - always comes up right after the memory dump and it takes 10 mins to restart windows but i have to use a boot disk >:( Also I took off XP and sntalled win2kpro - but i couldn't get drivers for video or audio for use in my machine with that OS as this laptop has been built for XP I was offline for an entire week!! >:( |

There isn't an OS built that I can't crash in less than five minutes.

Doesn't everyone have it backwards? Within reason, Microsoft attempts to make it's latest OS work with "other software". It's complicated shit - above anyone on GFY - and takes a lot of effort.
It's almost like like taking the tires off of my 1965 Mustang Fastback and trying to put them on my 2001 Mustang - The tires from the '65 are too big to fit on my new Musang. Do I have the right to bitch at ford because their new Mustang does't take parts from an old one? Of course not. Again, I had that "core" problem with ICQ. I didn't think it was Microsoft's fault. Microsoft didn't write XP with ICQ in mind. Instead, maybe ICQ should have written it's software to work with XP. |

So far so good. I dig it, of course anything needs tweaking, I wouldnt consider myself a "user" if I didnt tweak the fuck out of everything, as for ICQ fuck that program, that thing has never ran correctly on any machine I have ever had, and I run every OS from Win95 - Xp - Mac OS 8 and none of them have pleased me as much as my Mac OS.
I really dont want to start a Mac Vs Win thread, any professional knows the difference and the answer to the argument. I wouldnt consider doing professional audio without my g4 and theres no way i could get all these snazzy free downloads for my mac. Makes sense. Mac isnt consumer level, most would argue that too, more professional, which is why there is less h(c)racked software out there, but like me if you can afford the 6k price tag, you really gonna weep over the price of Photoshop? You get what you pay for. |
XP is fine......it looks neato with StyleXP installed......themes themes themes! :2 cents: :2 cents: : That's my.....4 cents or so....
yeti :rainfro |
hmmm I have found something weird though, some of my sites that use layers are not showing up on my new machine that I run Xp on, but they look fine on all my other machines in both netscape and IE? WTF?
Where a certain layer should be, the html code appears instead of the layer, hmmm? Any ideas? It looks fine even in my AOL browser hahahaha but not on this new machine running xp? |
