Server Uplinks.......10,100 mbps.........

Now is it possible to get a fiber uplink from server instead of the 100 mbps?

If your provider has gigabit switches, & NICs sure, but It'll probably cost you a little more.

SinisterStudios 07-20-2005 06:49 AM

Sure you can, its more expensive but you can get it. Gigabit copper is probally your best bet

justsexxx 07-20-2005 07:17 AM

Isprime offers this already for some time. They were one of the first host to offer this.

justsexxx 07-20-2005 07:18 AM

ISprime now offers Gigabit hand-offs directly to customers servers. High bandwith customers such as those doing video streaming can greatly benefit from these upgrades. Contact [email protected] for more infomation and pricing.

Depends on your provider. I'd say anywhere between $10 and $100 /mo.

webair 07-20-2005 08:50 AM

Ycaza 07-20-2005 09:12 AM

You can use gigabit fiber nic cards OR 1000 Copper Ethernet Nic Cards.
SplitInfinity offers gigabit switch links.... fiber OR copper.

SplitInfinity 07-20-2005 09:53 AM

A fiber NIC card is like 200 bucks...
A fiber GBIC for a Cisco GBIC port is like 120 bucks
Fiber cable is like 45.00 for a 6 ft cable.

Copper GIgabit Ethernet on the other hand is becoming just as cheap as regular ethernet (10/100). And they are backwards compatible. Most servers we order
come standard with gigabit ethernet ports that do 10/100/1000.
A typical macintosh computer has 10/100/1000 nic card built in... just to show you
how mainstream gigabit copper is.

Since we moved to 10/100/1000 blades, i have dozens of extra Gbic's for our 6509's, wanna buy some?

SplitInfinity 07-20-2005 09:36 PM
