Paysite member emails - sell them? Use them?
What's the GFY consensus on the best way to drive revenue from email addresses that are generated from paysite signups?
Meaning each address has gone through an Epoch/CCBill signup process for a paid trial or full paid membership using either a credit card or online check, and been ACCEPTED. I'd imagine they're like gold to the right people, but I have no experience in that arena and would like to hear opinions. What are they even worth? |
By selling those emails you're no better than a spammer. :(
|
Don't worry Cash, I'll hold yours back from the sale. :)
Not looking to sell, don't misunderstand me, I don't even know the legality of a move like that in the current climate. But I'm looking for info either way, want to learn. |
There are a number of factors to consider ...
Are the recipients fully opt'ed in ? ie. have u told them during the sign-up process that they could receive emails from you and or business partners? Is this something you want to run your self or outsource? If you run it as a 'newsletter' type service with relevant updates and 'recommended' upsells in my mind this will work much better then blindly spamming people. You need to consider that if it's something that's coming from you you may fall fowl of various ISP's spam filters if the emails aren't formatted properly and bounce backs etc. aren't handled right. This would have the cascade effect of possibly hurting u'r initial sign-up process. Just my :2 cents: |
Why sell when those people have a proven interest in what YOU are offering? Those email addresses are worth their weight in gold. Use the power wisely and those addresses can create some nice return business for you.
|
Right...but lets hear the how. That's what I'm after in this thread, how specifically can valid emails be monetized.
It's easy to say they're a gold mine, they're solid leads, yada yada, but lets hear specific techniques people are using to do well with them while not running afowl of their ISP or the law. :) |
Anyway to contact you ?

when they cancel send an email with a cheap price to re-join, or have them extend their membership and sign up for a 1 week free trial.

Use them yourself.

I remember when a so called "cool person" asked to trade lists... I didn't. I'll never trade or sell my list. Funny thing, that so called "cool person" is no longer in biz :2 cents:
|
ever heard of epoch one-clicks? just keep in mind, if you choose to sell them, you will no longer be able to use that list again. lists like these get re-sold over and over until they are completely useless. no matter how tempting the offer, you can make more by mailing it yourself.
oh and stay far away from any of the scumbags at 'top dog internet' |

Question remains for that sharp person that doesn't answer posts in one-liner obvious cliches: How? Still waiting for that answer...all I see are a dozen posts by clowns trying to prevent the "omg blasphemy!!!111" of selling them, which was never a fucking consideration for me anyway. Just trying to LEARN about all aspects of the business, including what the VALUE of these sorts of emails are and WHY they are valuable. How. Someone post your thoughts on HOW large sponsors monetize their memebship emails. |
Great question for discussion. It seemed the best response was the one detailing utilizing them to continue selling them your products. If they purchased a membership to 'Examplesite.com' and cancelled, you could send them a new offer to renew their membership at a reduced price or some extended terms. Or maybe even send them what/who the newest updates are that they've missed or new site additions to the network. As mentioned before, privacy and the sharing of the information is a big concern to most online consumers and all consumers.
I'm sure no large sponsers will divulge EXACTLY what they do with the information. There's a difference between being helpful and giving away the keys to the castle. I can imagine your e-mail is getting flooded with tons of people who want to "help" you. |
we dont sell them but do use them for newsletters updates, upsells etc.
They work great... always have .. We just make sure theirs a clean Remove Me link that actuall does remove those who want to opt out. We have sent millions of emails out the past 4 years and have only ever had no more than 10 complaints. So yep used in the right way they are killer money earner! :2 cents: |
Good feedback for sure...how do you overcome the recent changes in Hotmail and Yahoo mail, where any email note containging a webpage link is blocked from delivery?
Bastards aren't even sending it to the "Spam" box, it's just not being delivered at all. |
don't worry someone is already mailing to your surfers on a daily basis
