Don't they have air conditioners in Europe? wtf?
http://sg.news.yahoo.com/050627/1/3t6jd.html
101 deaths in Spain, almost 15k dead in France, 20k Italians dead Why don't they just get some air conditioners? |
There's poor people on the streets in the US? Why don't they get a job?
Wtf? |
You could say the same about Chicago in 1995 when hundreds of people died from the heat wave there.
|
how can you die from heat stroke, wouldnt you just take a cold bath? or go in some a/c?

The houses are like 400 years old, no airconditioners and they work outdoors. |
stop it. the standard of living is much better in europe!
who needs air conditioning when its hot. there's nothing wrong with dying. |
I still need to go grab an ac for my place. Getting damn toasty
|
That is very sad. :( stop bying big SUV and heat your house with wood.
|
do these people even have electricity? I thought life was supposed to be so great over in europe :1orglaugh

Their emergency response is to warn people that's it's going to be above 41 Celsius? wtf is that? Those govt's dont have some kind of program where people can get old air conditioners? It just lets people roast and die? If people were dying on that massive scale in the states it'd be page 1 and people would be doing something about it instead of just shrugging their shoulders to it. |
Air conditioning doesnt work outside
|
Damn europeans living in huts, and sod houses.
|
The amount of ignorance poured into this thread is mind-boggling.

You will find fans alot but moving around heat isn't exactly helpful unless there's some type of cool breeze. I was in Sicily in the month of August one year it hit 48 where I was at - and in neighbouring towns it was 50 - NEVER again unless I'm guaranteed air conditioners everywhere I walk. |
We dont have them in this area of mexico either. we just dont need them.

actually I dont really care, I was just waiting for a phone call and needed something to talk about while I was waiting. :winkwink: |
it's funny how some American think Europe is a very poor small continent :)

hey retarded:) we have electricity you know it? Retarded :)
|
When they have heat waves everybody is trying to turn their ACs on. So there is an overload and the power shuts down. That's why people die.
Also, people who are poor do not have ACs or even electricity. And most of the death cases are old people, infants or sick persons. |
Can you please made a hole in my liberty' period house in italy (like this one) and destroy about 200 years of history to install a new air conditioner? A big hole please. I neeeeed an air conditioner! I can't live without it and without consuming tons of electricity everyday
Just shut up please... |

I guess it's freaking hot in EU!

I spend a little time in France each year and I have yet to stay in a place with aircon.

And air conditioner isn't the solution. Or old people and babes have to live all the summer in a room with air conditioner and never go outside? Pleeeeease.... Air conditioner is just a placebo (expensive in money and electricity) and some country can't use so many electricity without sense. Last year in italy we have lots of problems with electricity because of there are too many air conditioner activated during the summer and our electric system wasn't projected to support it. And is not really easy to modify a national electric system in italy. There are lots of problem, geographic problems and urban conformation problems. P.S: please compare people who died in usa cities during the summer and people who died in europe. You can realize by yourself that is about the same... |
Air conditioners actually tend to make europeans sick. Colds and stuff...
We are just not used to it as much as the US is. Air conditioners are not big in europe thus they are more expensive than in the US. Most european places, even new ones, do not have central air, and to be honest, I am very happy about it, I HATE central air. It just does not get so extrememly hot here often, and if the house is built well, and not made out of wood ;) ... there is going to be good insulation. My place is relatively cool even with all windows closed, you just need to know how to make sure it stays like this. Also, there are places in europe which have 500 year old houses that stay 20 degrees Celsius all year long without ANY kind of heating or cooling going on, and it gets below 20 in the winter (not a lot, but still) and above 35 in the summer. I prefer it the way it is in europe honestly. A/C is nice in a car though ... :) Fabian |
This thread was suppose to be about dying in heatwave, not about where is a better place America or Europe.

ok I am sorry you don't have any clue what the tradition is - how old is your country - like 40 - 50 years? and whom did you stole it from - Siouxe? I love these continental fights :pimp |
Will you guys start using fahrenheit so I know what the hell is going on? Just because us americans are better then everyone else, doesn't mean we have good educations! :)

What a fucking load of bs in this thread. people die you know? If it's hot it's the heat, if it's cold is the cold and if an asian came to live i the neighborhoud it probably would be SARS.
Now tell me how airconditioning could prevent older and weaker people to die? Put them in a airconditioned room for the whole summer? |
when you can't afford air conditioning I guess you learn to live without it.

Carry on. |
wow, it always end up in a Europe bashing vs America bashing :(
Most of western Europe that is now under a heat wave is not used to those type of temperatures. Most of the deaths mentioned here are from the 2003 heat wave, most of these people were elderly that were left home alone during the summer holidays. It may sound bad, but especially in France, you don't really take grandma along when you go to the Riviera. Europe does not have the infrastructure that is available in the US or Canada or Australia when it comes to living in the heat. That is why you will see ads such as "Romantic Flat with a nice airflow", meaning an apartment with 2 windows on 2 different sides of the building. |
damn thats badd
