well I don't mind Lakers being the finals coz I've been a Laker fan till Shaq went out so now I'm a Spurs fan.. but still like the Lakers.. So its either Lakers or Spurs vs Heat

loverboy 06-24-2005 03:52 PM

with the Lakers lineup, i don't know. unless Phil implements some major changes.

This tuesday they will make big changes during the draft this is phil people, he has 9 rings and he is the zen master, then they sign a big free agent maybe ray allen or joe johnson, then the triangle offense comes into play with intense defense, It all equals to 1 thing and thats the championship.

Phil is just very unpredictable, you never know what's on his mind.
5 months til 2006 season, anything is possible for LA

Dont crush my hopes, and its all rumors that the Kings are moving to Vegas... rumors I say

E-Randy 06-24-2005 04:03 PM

Lakers will definitely make some lineup changes this year. A center maybe??? But I don't think they will have what it takes to get to the finals. Look for Phoenix to come back with a vengeance!

Frees up room under the salary cap to build for the future. The 3 players they got combined made less than half of Webbers Salary.

Personally, When they made that trade I felt they had already given up on this season and was looking to the future

loverboy 06-24-2005 04:10 PM

how about KG going to LA, saw some thread rumors posted a couple of weeks back.
any truth to this?

Just_Dave 06-24-2005 04:10 PM

what big named free agents are there this year

Good point..but they knew they were in the playoffs and still pulled off the trade, they had a good shot at winning more playoff games if webber was still around, But I do get the part about free up cap space for the future.

My prediction is they surprise everyone again next year. They will have the second best record in the East and will be capable of giving Miami and Detroit a challenge in the playoffs.

just too bad, Philly failed to capitalize the transfer of Webber during the Playoffs this year. i guess the guys failed short of time to blend in with each other.

that's being a bit too optimistic, unless they acquire a decent point guard and a center, they won't make it. i still think that the team they have is good enough to make it into the playoffs. last year was a disaster b/c of kobe and odom's injuries

Is Phil Jackson coming back to Lakers for sure?

Matt 26z 06-24-2005 04:34 PM

Jackson is a coach of champions, not a rebuilding coach anymore. I think he took the job back only because of what they were paying him.

He'll coach the Lakers for 06 and 07. Then sit out 08 and 09. His final tenure will be with the Bulls from 10 onward. That's when the Skiles contract runs out and they'll be one of the premire teams in the NBA by then.

He will never coach the bulls again, remember he will marry jeanie buss the owners daughter, that means his interest will be the lakers for life

CELTICS all the way.

sean416 06-24-2005 06:07 PM

good points in this thread. I really hope ray allen gets out of seattle.. but seeing how they had some mild success in the playoffs he may feel like its a suitable home for him. lets hope not. Joe Johnson wont be traded, I highly doubt it. He feels at him in phoenix.

I think you have to look out for the heat and chicago in the east and keep your eye on cleveland's progress. LeBron James missed the playoffs and you know thats going to sting. He'll be thinking about the playoffs all season long. Another noteable team is philly. If allen and chris can get the right chemistry it will be a good go for them. For the west, you can never count out phil jackson, but I think that lakers fate will be decided in training camp. so lets say for the west its between phoenix and san antonio, and we'll all keep our eyes on kobe & phil between now and the begining of next season.

If Shaq fully recovers from this injury, I really think they have 2-3 championships in the bag. Miami is going to be a great team. The big question is does shaq have it in him.

pxxx 06-24-2005 06:10 PM

New Jersey probably have a chance.

Lakers to the finals?
Even Phil Jackson himself don't believe so:

Jackson said winning a 10th championship is not a priority and didn't sound like he expected that in the next three years.

"I would be most amazed if at the end of the third year we had an opportunity to do that," he said.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/s...=2084948&num=2

just look for the spurs to win it all again, or maybe Phoenix now that they got a tought low post defender and good rebounder in Kurt Thomas.

:2 cents:

Rojo-DieselAction 06-24-2005 08:30 PM

Lakers! Lakers! They will take it again... :thumbsup
