bump for more info :)

isnt that like a oxymoron? because the atkins is all based around proteins and lots and lots of chickens, beef, pork, lamb, etc..

GigoloJustin 05-11-2005 07:37 PM

Doesn't sound like a very fun diet, but i'd imagine it would drop the pounds pretty fast.

Jace 05-11-2005 07:39 PM

i don't think that really exists...besides, wouldn't vegetarians be healthy anyway? you don't see too many fat vegetarians

Pleasurepays 05-11-2005 07:40 PM

i am guessing you are not aware that "Atkins Diet" typically means "high protein/low carb" - and no, you can't do it as a vegetarian no matter what babble is about to follow this post. besides, you need a lot of fat for ketogenic diets to work well.

although this is a special type of ketoginic diets where he is cycling carbs into his diet, one day a week - for body building/fat loss purpose. its good info in that it explains how ketogenic diets work and after reading it, you should be able to understand why without fat/meat, you are not going to put your body into ketosis (fat burning state)

I did this for years, before it was a trend or even heard of, though not as extreme as Atkins. Lots of soy, Boca burgers and Morning Star products are good in a time crunch, steamed green veggies every day and a little fruit. The protein mixes available now in health food stores are great for low calories, fat and carbs while high in protein. My personal experience, low fat and carbs and high in protein is well rounded and not too difficult for vegatarians.

well, i've been on atkins for a while.

and it would be more difficult to do it 100% vegetarian, but it is possible.

the big plus for atkins is you can be on a diet that keeps you slim and you are not hungry all the time.

and from the looks of many of the webmaster pix i see, lots of you guys need something like this.

sitting in front of a monitor all day ain't so good for you. if your hobby is fuckin' chicks you will get more and better nookie with a flat belly.

Screaming 05-11-2005 08:44 PM

ok but you need carbs and protein so keep that in mind and dont cut them out completely

I know that its reputation is for high protein diets which is often read to mean high cholesterol meat diets. I'm trying to lower cholesterol as well while gaining the benefits of Atkins. Anyone try this modification to the diet?

I've been on Atkins before. It really works. I've dropped 40 pounds in less than a month. Exercise + Atkins = fast weight loss. But my cholesterol surged as well. So I'm looking at having a vegetarian 'modification' to the diet to maybe result in relatively quick but healthier weight loss.

yes, you must tweak the atkins plan for best total health.

and the most recent incarnation of atkins does just that.

The atkins diet increases your cholestrol and increases the risk of heart disease. Can anyone with a brain, really think that consuming that much fat is good for your body?

read the god damned book.
tony's father, who has had 5 heart attacks in the past, went on atkins. it changed his life. he lost 50 lbs. he's now off his blood pressure and cholesterol medications and he set back the clock at least 10 years.

Thanks, bro. I'll do that. Looking at a mix of TVP (soy-based meat replacers), beans, and green leafy vegetables.

Thanks for the tips and advice, guys. Much appreciated.

that's the stuff.

and just do this little thing because it is very empowering to you:

get yourself a scale, and put it next to your bed. and weigh yourself every morning after you take a piss.

and chart your weight, and write on the calendar what you weigh each friday.

the first 10 days will be the most difficult for you---your body will adjust, your stomach will shrink, and after 10 days you will no longer be hungry---you will be able to drive right past wendy's and BK, and it won't faze you.
your face will get thinner first, you will lose your jowls, and then your pants will get looser, and you will think your dick is getting bigger, and your old lady will want to bang you more.

weigh yourself everyday---you will see the pounds come off, and that will motivate you.

and drink lots of lemon water or diet soda, no beer, no alcoholic stuff.

now go my son. good luck :thumbsup

but thin doesn't necessarily mean healthy just like fat doesn't necessarily mean unhealthy

i would say that your best bet to get your cholesterol under control is a balanced diet and exercise. cut out the sugars and bad fats and know what types of fats you are eating and how much you are eating and try to get most of your carbs from veggies and greens (unless you are doing something strenuous like lifting weights, running regularly etc)

i am not a doctor of course... but unless you have a genetic issue related to cholesterol, two things sometimes happen - the first, is that people think that they are in ketosis and aren't due to eating too much carbs... except now they are eating bacon and cheese for breakfast lunch and dinner. also, it matters in a big way, what types of fats you eat in regards to cholesterol. for example, just because you can eat more "fat" does not mean that deep fried cheese sticks are not going to kill you. :) the second, is that cholesterol levels sometimes go up initially and then subside again.

only fat people make these types of remarks. being fat means you are placing yourself at risk to countless health problems that thin and "in shape" people aren't. the fact is that you are obese and though i applaud your ability to maintain your self esteem and positive self image, you are not healthy by anyones definition of the word.

just because George Burns smoked past 100 years old does not mean that smoking isn't deadly.

:2 cents:

I am not familiar with Atkins (didn't need it) but I try to eat healthy. I am eating lots of grilled fish and cheese, plain yogurt and drink milk, have raw and steamed veg.s and salads without mayo mostly original Italian and Greek style using fresh or drid spices and virgin olive oil only.. oh and hard boiled eggs sometimes as well as pastas but all home made. I don't drink alcohol only mineral water and one soy protein shake at morning after coffee. Fibers are also important.
