so why wouldnt i be able to use a detachable 200 gig hd filled with games

Sly 05-11-2005 03:54 PM

X-Box 360? Is that the upcoming one?

I would think by the time it comes out they would use a larger drive.

most likely for the same reason you can't open up your current xbox and drop in a hard drive filled with games: the system won't recognize/read it.

DarkJedi 05-11-2005 04:00 PM

It will have THREE 3.2-GHz processors in it.
WTF, how can Microsoft afford that?

Are the games going to cost $70 or $80 to make up for this?

Yes you can. I have a 250gb hard drive in my xbox. A year after xbox 2 comes out I'm sure we will be able to hack the shit out of it too.

They lost money on the hardware for Xbox and are going to lose money on the hardware for xbox 2. Its marketing strategy. They want in for the long haul.

dunefield 05-11-2005 04:11 PM

who cares if it's the most powerful machine in the world... their games are crud...

yeah, i forgot to add "without mods/hacks".

DJ, as it is, Microsoft loses money on the actual XBox sales and makes up for it on game sales. Or at least so I've heard.

Yeah, I know. I forgot to mention mods. I meant straight out of the box, you can't just drop in a new HD and play off it.

My own XBox is modded with a 120 GB drive, so I'm not totally clueless :winkwink:

GatorB 05-11-2005 04:25 PM

If you XBOXers want a game machine with a ahrd rive may I suggest USING THE ONE YOU ARE ON NOW. I find it funny poele paid $200+ for an XBox god know how much more "moding" it up just so it can act like a computer which they already have and that is 10X better than an XBOX.

Rui 05-11-2005 04:26 PM

not confirmed yet

I prefer sitting on my couch, playing on my 32 inch screen with surround sound. But that's just me.

I work on my PC. I don't wanna play on my PC too.

Even a basic video card has a TV out port on them.

Seeing as how my PC is upstairs in my office and my TV is downstairs in my living room and I don't have x-ray vision, I fail to see how a TV-out port will help.

Well to each his own I guess. Like I said most XBOX mods are to make them more computer like and if I want something that acts like a computer I'll use a computer. I want a game machine to play games because that's what they do best. I'll be saving my money for a PS3. WTF do I need a 20 GB hard drive on a game machine for? Hell I still have the same 8 MB memory card I got when I first got my PS2. When the day comes that whole game can be downloaded from the internet( legally I mean ) that's when game machines will need big HDs. Of course that's stuff the the NEXT generation of game systems. By next I talking PS4 and XBox 3( or 720 or whatever the fuck they will call it ).

It's all about the free games. I spent thousands on video games before I got my modded Xbox. Now I've got emulators running on my Xbox for literally every video game system that has ever existed up to the time of the PS1, as well as all the arcade classics. I know you can run emulators on the PC too, but using the dual analog sticks on the Xbox controller is a lot better than dicking around with a keyboard when you are trying to play Robotron or something like that.
