big mistake!
Legs are very important .....

The Sultan Of Smut 04-12-2005 01:09 AM

Yup, I usually go about 4 times a week. I alternate exercises quite a bit to get everything in.

Ross 04-12-2005 01:14 AM

I play soccer at least once per week for 2 hours. Usually its more like 2 1 hour games and then a 2 hour game on a Sunday.

The 1 hour games are 5 a side, thats fucking good for you, its constant running around. 7 a side is longer but not as tiring, a bigger pitch and more players makes it more about team work than individuals.

I used to go to the gym 3 times per week as well. I've never really been a gym fan, I've had my membership for 2 years and I've not used it as much as I should have.

shermo 04-12-2005 01:45 AM

5 days a week of lifting
5 days of cardio, alternating swimming with running

6 small meals a day (fruits, veggies, fish, pasta)

Hera, the Apocalypse 04-12-2005 02:00 AM

reynold 04-12-2005 02:08 AM

Vitasoy 04-12-2005 02:25 AM

I have started running and I'm starting to do pushups. Running 2-3 times per week. Push Ups slowly increasing each day

Just getting back into it over recent weeks. Used to train heavy with weights in my teens and I am now going into my garage most days to do just the basics (I have lots of heavy duty equipment so I`m able to do squats, leg pressing, benching, curls, rowing etc.).

Beginning to feel really good again...spending all day on my laptop isn`t healthy. :2 cents:

NickPapageorgio 04-12-2005 06:34 AM

I just started working out again here recently. I am working up to a bigger workout but right now I am eating just 1500 calories a day and I ride my mountain bike 2.5 miles at 6AM then workout on the soloflex for 20 minutes and then before bed I ride another 2.5 - 5 miles on the bike again. I want to eventually move to a 15 mile ride everyday and 30 minutes of strength training but it's been so long that I need to work with that as a goal. I am about your size Sleazy and I can say my energy levels have gone through the roof since I started eating right and working out again.

Anthony 04-12-2005 06:36 AM

Lift 5 X a week to build muscle. For cardio and overall fitness, Brazillian Jiu Jitsu 3X plus a week.

Are you considering starting Sleazy? After Vegas, I got tired of being fat, lethargic, and out of shape. I hired a nutrionist, and personal trainer. I also got my hormone levels checked, and considering we are probably in the same age group, you should too.

I was surprised to see my levels of Testosterone were half normal, and my Estrogen way above the norm. My doctor put me on Testosterone therapy as well as a host of other hormone therapy. In 10 weeks I've lost about 15lbs of fat and gained about 25lbs of muscle. Something to think about, and look into.

Good luck. From personal experience, the first step is the hardest.

Froey Twe 04-12-2005 06:39 AM

i try to work out during the week, i start of with chest, then back, shoulders, then triceps and biceps, then i do little bit of everything try out new exercises and on the weekends cardio and legs but that doesn't happen a lot.

From what I have read, alot of times fat will turn straight into estrogen. Many times doctors will start guys the size of me or Sleazy on a testosterone treatment in order to stimulate the desire to workout. I am trying all natural right now. Seems to be doing the trick. I actually have the desire right now to work out everyday and I can see it making a difference. It's hard to get started when you have gone so long being fat and just plain overeating but now, on the 3 hour small meal schedule, I am truly full all day. I can't even eat as much as I used too. I take men's vitamin supplements and drink a Whey protein shake in the mornings to boost my protein intake before working out so as to build muscle as I lose the fat. I am hoping by this time next year to have lost atleast 100 pounds.

mindoza 04-12-2005 06:43 AM

4 x's per week with a trainer.

1. back bi's abs ( one hour) cardio ( 20 minutes)
2. Legs & abs (one hour) cardio ( 20 minutes)
3. chest, shoulders tri's ( one hour) abs( 500 crunches)
4. cardio- Bike( ten minutes) treadmill ( 30 minutes) eliptical ( until I start crying for my mommy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Ive lost 38 lbs ( also strict diet) and even though I have a ways to go ,I feel so healthy and will be able to lose all the flab with this regiment!

jscott 04-12-2005 06:44 AM

i go to the gym about 4x's/week

do the bike thing and also do light lifting too, i just like to get my blood flowing at least once every day

Nysus 04-12-2005 06:45 AM

Increase your activity level, decrease your added sugar food products, stay away from empty carbohydrates unless you're about to run a marathon, even then you're better to have good carbs in your body.

Activity level + calorie intake will dictate what your final weight will be.

Adding an hour of walking per day after a month, you will lose 5-25 Lbs depending on your starting weight.

Reducing calorie intake by 25%, you will likely lose another 5-25 Lbs depending on your starting weight.

All energy burned vs. energy taken in (food). Find a balance, mind you, if you want to lose fat, the energy burned has to be higher than energy taken in.

Edit: I suggest checking out a few different gyms, Goodlife Fitness if they have one in your area seem to be the best out there right now in Canada, and then on top of that I'd suggest getting a personal trainer for 10-20 sessions who will setup a routine and eating habits for you; you tell them your goal(s) and they'll tell you / teach you how to get there properly and safely. You don't have to put me down as who referred you.. I'll only get a crappy towel.. heh.

And on that note, even decreasing what you put into things will help. Like I have cut out all grease. I used to make an ommelette in the morning with greasy bacon and processed cheese and eggs and butter and all that shit. You have to learn to not stop eating what you like, but to make it in a healthier way. This morning for instance, I used 2 egg whites, chopped scallions, one slice of canadian bacon and mozzarella and a light canola oil spray. Even though it was very tasty, it was ATLEAST 50% less fattening than what I used to eat. I usually do the whey powder in the morning but Tuesdays are my "cheat" days where I eat solids at breakfast time. That breakfast I just described provided me 3 proteins light on the carbs plus I added in one complex carb by eating half a multigrain english muffin plain and I got my veggie serving by a 6 oz. glass of low-sodium V8 juice. Delicious breakfast full of all kinds of good stuff.

Something as easy as adding one less teaspoon of sugar to your coffee or eating half a sandwich where you would have normally eaten a whole one will help. It's pretty easy when you think on those terms.

Nick,

I was pretty big for me at 252lbs. I know you are a bit bigger, but I agree 100 percent. I got put on the 6 meal program and I have a big kit of vitamins, minerals and everything else I have to take at different intervals during the day. I was at 26% body fat when I started mid January. I'm currently at 14 to 16% and dropping. Working out while builds the muscle is really about 20 percent of the total work. Diet is everything, and to lose weight, you have to keep the machine burning. I tried going down to the calories you are at now, I got told to increase it.

The testosterone therapy works wonders. Aches and pains are gone, and my energy levels are way up there. When I first started, I remarked to a friend that it was like being 16 again.

The sooner you can lower the estrogen in your system, the faster you can get that roll off our gut. :)

Forgot to add, I dont' worry about the scale as much anymore. I started at 252, I'm now at 270lbs. While looking in good shape, a friend I haven't seen Vegas said I am more compact now.

That's a big mistake. The legs are among the biggest muscle group. Not working them out you miss out on

a) building more muscle fiber in your body which in turn burns more calories than fat
b) releasing additional growth hormones into your system from fibre damage to your leg muscles.

I weighed myself a couple weeks ago and I was up near 400 pounds. I told myself, that's it. I can't take being a fat fuck anymore. Going from concrete construction to sitting in front of a PC all day fucked my metabolism like crazy. Sitting here eating cheetos just doesn't cut it when the only exercise I was going to do all day was a couple runs to the bathroom and a drive to starbucks. I am pissed at myself for getting as big as I am and I think that's what I really needed was to just get mad about it. I am determined.

I try not to overwhelm people with the most proper way of doing things when they're trying to get into being fit and healthy. :) I currently eat 8-11 meals per day; meaning I breakdown my daily calorie intake into 8-11 different eating sessions. Keeps food in your stomache at all time therefore your body is burning energy digesting constantly, and you're increasing your metabolic rate which will increase your bodies natural amount of calories burned.

Your body is a wonderful machine and will adapt to how you treat it, and quite quickly, it's matter of having the information / knowledge on how to do it. :)

Kudos to everyone who's been meeting / nearing their goals. :)

Matt

How much water do you guys drink everyday? I know it's an essential, just wondering what others do when it comes to that. I usually get in atleast 8-10 16oz. glasses per day. I know it helps flush toxins from worked muscles plus it keeps you full.

Start eating protein, fruit, veggies, and only eat flaxseed rye bread if you need to eat bread. Have Omega-3 eggs or just egg whites that come in cartons.

If you drink coffee, switch over to green tea (decaf or not).

Go for THREE 20 minute walks every day.

Try to only go to the grocery store and buy UNPROCESSED foods; fruit, veggies, raw chicken/fish/meat (no processed meat that's been breaded).

Eat about 1500-2000 calories per day; also, make sure your diet is LOW FAT and HIGH FIBRE, it will help tremendously. The best way for you to change your lifestyle / turn your life around would be make yourself an expert, read and learn as much as you can about food and the body.

If you keep to that in 1 month's time you should be able to lose anywhere from 25-50 Lbs; I'm not a professional or anything, though I know what relatively sticking to that healthy eating and excercise / activity level does.

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to try to help you out; ICQ 129060301 or email [email protected]; though ICQ is better as I might delete your email as spam by accident.

As much as I can / whenever I can? Even if it's half a cup, it keeps your body supplied, and surprisingly you don't have to pee that often (assuming you don't have any other problems).

Remember that fruit, veggies, etc. all have water in them too, so it's not like you're getting none

OH - DON'T DRINK POP/SODA. At least if you must, drink DIET; caffeine in it will dehydrate you and the amount of sugar in those kinds of drinks is bad.

What are your thoughts on the "egg beaters" that come in the cartons? I love them. I have switched out pretty much everything I used to eat for something healthier for me. No more frozen veggies, I buy all fresh ingredients. Canned fruit has gone too for fresh fruit. I cut out all white flour and fried anything pretty much. (My tuesday ommelette is the only thing cooked in a pan that way) I eat unsalted nuts as snacks as well as carrots and dried peas. Dinner's usually consist of like grilled steak, fish, chicken etc. with a veggie side and water or crystal light. I have almost completely cut out coffee as I was told by a nutritionalist that it helps store fat or something. I have been drinking alot of greentea here lately, funny you mentioned it. I may hit you up for some decent ways to use flax seed. I have a ton of it but no idea how to fix it.

That sounds perfect. The only thing to watch out for is your calorie intake versus your activity level if you're trying to lose weight, or even if you're trying to gain muscle make sure you eat enough protein.

If you're more active one day, eat a bit more (or you don't have to if you're not hungry / don't have a headache; your body will tell you if you're hungry / dehydrated).

The only problem I seem to be having is in the morning if I don't eat before I work out I feel very sick like I am going to puke and like I am going to pass out. The vitamin supplements have been helping some but I have got to eat before hand or I am screwed.

Excellent list. Compound movements are the only way to go.

I've stayed away from the machines and cables this time around and noticed a huge difference.

I'm a yo-yo fitness buff. I'm on or off. Like a light switch. Working out isn't something that I've ever been able to half-ass. A work out partner is a vital thing for me. Looking for a hottie 21 year old former cheerleader personal trainer girlfriend in the Tampa Bay area.

Head 04-12-2005 07:53 AM

Yes. 3 times a week. I start with a walk to the gym, then stretching, followed by abb work: (which is sit-ups on different machines) then I proceed to weights. After all that I do Cardio stuff and I finish with a little kick boxing.
