How do you get a sponsor to stop shaving?

We've been noticing some very suspicious trends in ratios over the last few months with a few of our sponsors.

Most of them we've removed from our database, though with some of them their ratios were good enough prior to the shave machine getting turned up to want to keep promoting them, how is the best way to tell a sponsor to stop shaving? (aside from exposing them on here). I know we shouldn't really do business with companies we can't trust... unfortunately this industry isn't exactly full of trustworthy people.

Sponsors who can guarantee no shave (not just for the first few weeks) I'd love to hear from you.

Please don't waste your time asking for names.

You can't stop them.

You can't trust them.

All you can do is stop sending traffic if you suspect they are shaving.

Does everybody shave? No...Just the vast majority....Especially those with high PPS payouts. :2 cents:

I don't know if it could be stated any better than this. Great post

Don't promote anyone who doesn't use third party affiliate program OR have an accounting firm audit their affilate program, simple as that. I have owned many businesses in the last 25 years and I know of no other industry like adult with zero transparency.

The Bootyologist 02-06-2005 08:50 PM

there is nothing you can do except start looking for new sponsors

Shooting_Manic 02-06-2005 08:57 PM

Dont send to PPS sponsors. Thats a sure fix.

We've seen sponsors shave rev share too.

Jimatcohf 02-06-2005 09:05 PM

use sponsors that use nats, www.cashtitans.com uses nats and we cannot shave nor have we ever, dont ask us ask our affilates.

italianninja 02-06-2005 10:52 PM

i think that couple sponsors i use are shaving! At the end of the day the sponsors will loose because people will talk about which sposors are shaving etc on messege boards and people will stop promoting them. Id rather a sponsor say I lwill give you 10 bucks perjoin than sponsors say they will give me 60 bucks per join and give me a ratio of 0:2000+ now i recon thats a shave. or jus shit lol.

shuki 02-06-2005 10:56 PM

It's naive to think because they use NATS they can't shave. If they want it bad enough, there's always a way

ytcracker 02-06-2005 11:00 PM

i thought this was going to be a joke
wheres the fucking punchline

Sly 02-06-2005 11:03 PM

All I know is I make much more money with the same exact traffic by sending it to PPS programs instead of rev-share.

Viva la razor.

just today, i pulled all my links to a penis pill sponser cuz i suspected them of shaving. i dont fuck around with my traffic. :pimp

JulianSosa 02-06-2005 11:04 PM

double post opps

JulianSosa 02-06-2005 11:04 PM

They cant shave you if you dont send traffic.

Quit sending and you wont be shaved :)

Steen2 02-06-2005 11:27 PM

I think very few (I hope) shave, as in not credit you direct sales to their sites you promote. I think many, many, sponsors have innovative ideas to maximize cash (without aff credit). As in popups, geo-redirects, dialers, etc..

gh0st 02-06-2005 11:27 PM

Q: How do you get a sponsor to stop shaving?

A: Hook them up with some bikini wax

Just let them know you're onto them but possibly not in a shaving way. Conversions can go down naturally just through your traffic getting overexposed.. but letting them know that you've noticed a decline would surely make them slowly give you back some sales.. maybe.. I mean it's not as if they're going to turn the shave right off cause then it's obvious what's going on but maybe just ask if theres a reason why conversions suddenly dropped and whether they have any "tips" to get traffic back up.

You dont ask them to stop. You just send your traffic elsewhere.

ULVideo 02-07-2005 12:49 AM

What? The program I signed up for with $497.55 PPS and 110% revshare is shaving?

I'm shocked..... shocked to hear........

Been trying that too many times myself.. First contact about my droping ratios allways seem to get things back to normal but then a month or two later the shave get turned back on :(

Best advice, as so many said allready, stop sending them traffic, that's really the only way to stop them shaving !

And yes RewardThem can guarante you that we will never shave you, ever !
..and with our ccbill links it's even pretty easy for you to check the source code on the join page.. Since the join page is hosted by ccbill i can't see how we could shave, so that should be an extra guarante on top of my personal one.

calmlikeabomb 02-07-2005 08:55 AM

I have solution for you, if you promote penis enlargement.

Give me 1 more week.

hopefully others will too so that they figure out that shaving is not the right way to do bizz :disgust

TheDoc 02-07-2005 06:21 PM

Well.. Just because a sponsor isn't converting well this day/week/month doesn't mean they are shaving.

Last month, our ratios jumped up 200-250, then for Feb, back to normal. I'm pretty sure I don't shave myself. I look at the processors, or the banks. It seems when I have very bad days other programs that use Epoch do as well. Just because Epoch doesn't seem to be having problems doesn't mean the bank isn't having issues or some major rt on the net.

Most program owners will never admit it, but yes, we have just as many bad days you guys do. Hell, I have had 1:1000 days then flip from Epoch to CCBill and the ratio not change. Just sometimes, shit just doesn't convert for a period of time, but it always seems to come back.

Don't be so quick to judge :)

fedfest 02-07-2005 06:52 PM

The Doc
Thats true, there can be a varaity of reasons and shaving don't have to allways be one of them..

However the topic is "How do you get a sponsor to stop shaving?" and for that i can really only see one ansver, the one above..
Also no names mentioned so again the only thing judged is "Shaving Sponsors"

Most of us i think, if doing this for awhile do have a pretty good feeling though if it's just a bad day or if something fishy is going on, but i would like to add to my coments..
"If your really believe the sponsor shaves then.. *Insert my previous coments* " just to make sure your not droping an otherwise good sponsor just becaurse of a bad day.

Pete 02-07-2005 06:54 PM

The best way to take care of that is to tell your mommy.

venus 02-07-2005 07:07 PM

We never shave, we do not promose anything we cant deliver.
www.venuscash.com

how do you get someone to stop shaving, you cant. If your using a sponser who has huge payouts, you have to expect them to shave. They are in this business to make money, so why would they pay you everything they make from a signup.

SykkBoy 02-07-2005 07:13 PM

I wish I could reverse shave
some affiliates' traffic is so bad, I feel bad and would like to just give them a signup ;-)

people love to always jump on the "they're shaving me" bandwagon without evcen considering it's their own traffic that may be bad or as TheDoc pointed out, preocessor issues, etc.

Another thing to consider is the lenght of a sponsor cookie..

example: the sponsors sets a 10 day cookie....you're trading traffic with someone who is using the same exact sponsor...now, if that surfer has been sent to the same sponsor twice, who's cookie should get credit for the signup? The site that sent the surfer originally and thus got the 10 day cookie set or the guy who sent them the time they decided to buy? There was a lost sale...what if that's happened a couple times? Not a shave, but maybe a lost sale...yet, an affiliate is luckily to scream shave when it's simply not the case.

pudcat 02-07-2005 07:41 PM

I'm aware that we all have our off days and weeks, i've given them about 6 months which is waaaay more than I should have given them.

my conversions dropped from ~1:200 to 0 for whatever amount of traffic I sent. What was even more disturbing was that no matter how much traffic I sent, sites which I had made a sale on previously no longer would convert, only sites which hadn't had a sale before... all their cookie cutter sites.

sure my traffic could be over exposed, though considering I'm currently 1:95 (across all their sites) on nasty dollars (which we all know is the most overexposed content) I'd say not.

TheDoc 02-07-2005 09:03 PM

Yeah Pud, that is pretty damn nasty.. 6 Months is way to long to wait, even more so if you are getting little to no signups. If I hit 1:2k for more than a few weeks, I move on, no need to lose any more money.

For myself, it seems that once a bigger program stops converting for me, I'm never able to get them to convert again.

Create a new account, use a different business or your personal info, email, etc., and see if you start to convert again..... Productivity shaver, simple enough to spot.

Thats an excellent point. My worst affiliate has about 1/40th the conversion ratio of my best affiliate. Obvously tgp and gallery traffic in general sucks but some niche traffic is so fucking good it almost seems like a scam.
