"We will counter any stupid action by Israel and its master with firmness and in an astonishing way," Brigadier-General Mohammad-Ali Jafari was quoted as saying by the Shargh newspaper.

"We pushed the Baathist enemy from our country within one and a half years," he said, referring to the opening campaigns of the 1980-88 war with Iraq.

"With the experience and skills from that war and in the case of any invasion, the invaders will be defeated in less than one and a half months," Jafari said.

"Even though the US and Israel do not have the courage to invade the Iranian nation, the Revolutionary Guards are in very good state of readiness to response to threats," General Yahya Rahim Safavi said.

"The US can not bring security to the Middle East by pushing Iran aside. And if they plan conspiracies, the Iranian nation and its leadership will stand against expansionism with firmness," he said.

Remember the Iraqi press minister saying "there are no US tanks in Bagdad"? Clearly he didn't look out his window.

The difference being Iran has a powerfull and organized army. Iraq was/is no cakewalk. Iran is going to be 10x worse.

If the US wanted to destroy Iran's Millitary capability, they wouldn't need to occupy Iran. One base of operations, no matter how unstable it currently is, is enough in the middle east. Iraq/Kuwait provides enough land to marshal and base US Millitary.

Obviously it would be much more difficult to occupy Iran. I just don't think there would be any need to.

Iraq's major problem isn't the US, its its own people, especially the young people who don't like the mullah religious bullshit that controls their lives so conservatively.

I predict when we go in, there will be instant social upheaval. A civil war will break out, just like in Iraq, and we'll be there helping the westernized Iranians to toss the hardcore freaks out of power.

To all you paper tigers I say ROARRR, the reality of war is quite different than the GFY version, we are barely keeping it together with Afghanistan and Iraq, hit Iran too and there will be further backlash of unprecedented proportion. How do you think Islam got as big as it did during the time of Mohammed?
