Karma - Bullshit or not?

Does what goes around really come around?

flashfire 01-21-2005 02:45 AM

it seems too, I often wonder about this and it seems to prove itself quite often

chaze 01-21-2005 02:45 AM

I think so 150%

Then again I'm a practicing Buddhist.

Could Jesus heat a burrito so hot that He Himself couldn't eat it?

DarkJedi 01-21-2005 02:55 AM

Here's what i think.

Karma is just cause and effect, not a magical force that randomly rewards or punishes you.

There is short-term personal karma, that which you create and affects you (and others) in your lifetime and that of the world interacting in the long-term over time creating consequences for the future. The two aren't really separate, just different ways of looking at the same thing.

You work out and end up getting fit - that's your personal karma. You get run over walking home form the gym - that's the drink driver's karma affecting you (as well as that of the people who invented and built the car, the street, etc without whom it couldn't have happened).

Everything is interconnected - you send your karma out into the world and the world's karma interacts with yours. Your personal karma improves your chances of success and happiness if it is positive. It doesn't guarantee it - because you are not separate from the world and other people's personal karma.

It's the fastest but not as traditional as some others.

Still respected by most in the religion since it's helped bring the teachings to western civilization.

Off the religious version, I used to think that karma was stored in your brain somewhere and that you did things to yourself as a result of being a ass.

Kind of like guilt but subliminally stored in the subconscious.

That's kind of like what you said.

I think it has to do with the overall algorithm of life. Everything is interconnected its just that there are several trillion variables. But your actions affect alot of them so inversely sometimes they have an opposite effect.

Butt Horn 01-21-2005 03:02 AM

Yes it does. Who ever tells you anything else is full of shit.

One would assume a Butt Horn would also be pretty full of shit.

True. The variables and interconnections and timing are SO HUGE when looked at from a life perspective. But if you were going to forensically trace a person's actions, you'd see some interesting chains.

Fuck yeah it does dude!! In fact, I'm watching my ex boyfriend get it now, and I've witnessed karma in my own life too. It IS real, it takes no one to harm you, you can do it to yourself by not living good. Be careful what you do, and what you wish for, because what goes around definitely comes around....i have too many examples to list....so Beware of Karma..... :upsidedow

Maybe it is just coincidence but when the Taliban fucked up that Giant Buddha statue in Bamyan, Afghanistan... maybe karma was triggered. Cuz they got booted out soon afterwards.

PHPdude 01-21-2005 04:28 AM

i recon it does, it just happened to me today at work.

Babagirls 01-21-2005 04:29 AM

YES!

not only, "what goes around, comes around"....but i think it comes back 10-fold!

SGS 01-21-2005 04:34 AM

karma is just a nice warm fuzzy feeling people hope to get about about future actions they have no control over.

Vitasoy 01-21-2005 04:42 AM

Yes... I like to believe so.

ADL Colin 01-21-2005 05:10 AM

I don't believe it.

Major (Tom) 01-21-2005 05:26 AM

i dont believe it..
too many bad things happen to good people.

And there are too many factors involved. Like one can make a case we deserved what happened to us on 9-11 because we were poking our noses in places we had no right to. But then you are stuck with the problem of karma of the people in the building. So either everyone in that building deserved to die or the peopel responsible will pay in the future. But it really makes no sense to think that way. Thats like saying something material can affect something immaterial. There simply isnt enough evidence to make a conclusion. But the lack of evidence is proof enough for me.

escorpio 01-21-2005 05:30 AM

I'm a firm believer in karma.

Joe Citizen 01-21-2005 05:39 AM

I don't believe in karma per se.

I believe that negative energy attracts negative energy and postive energy attracts positive energy.

You're not dead yet. Karma always catches up to you eventually. if you outrun it your whole life you probably won't have a very pleasant death. I know it's corny but I believe it 100%.

What if the original wrong doer escaped "justice" can karma fuck up his descendants? Would this be fair?

dennisthemenace 01-21-2005 06:25 AM

Everything is a cause set in motion.

Nothing is without consequence.
