Signups. Is the economy in a much worse state than we thought

This has been the WORST November for signups in years.
Not only are new signups sucking, but cancellations & declines are at their highest rates for me.

Could it be that "down deep", money is still hard to come by for those "casual" items? I was reading that here in Seattle, the day after Thanksgiving traditional big retail sales day was fairly decent, but then the rest of the weekend was basically tits up.

What do you think? Oversaturation of the market, or are people being a lot tighter with that penny of theirs before they finally let it go to buy something?

latinasojourn 11-30-2004 09:35 PM

90% of sites have cookie cutter content.

surfers have seen it all now.

very little original looking content.

asswipes who hijack the surfers' browsers, with trojan and dialers, etc are taking their toll on all tgp marketing.

adult traffic is generally down across the board per domain even though total traffic is up---this is due to saturation of adult sites.

but, if you have a unique viewpoint, and can provide high quality original content that no one else has, you will generate signups.

clinical hardcore has become passe' for most surfers.

About five.

On the same note, I posted in a previous thread that IMO we are under charging surfers. I'm not gonna go in depth here, but another reason to add to that is since all the free porn and economic troubles are having an effect on our downline, shouldn't we at least try to squeeze more juice out of those surfers who DO pay for our services?

DomBuyer 11-30-2004 09:44 PM

I'd say there's a much more benign reason: the proliferation of free porn.

You think "free" will only destroy the music and movie business, but not the porn business? You're dreamin'.

Free porn is everywhere, and there's more than enough to sustain for a full jerk, and that's the bottom line. Got nothing to do with the economy, since porn is not a "rational" purchase anyway.

A few reasons why...

Smarter surfers that have been burned once and know how it works now. Buy a trial then cancel before it converts.. too easy

majority of people in the world have computers so it's not hot or new anymore.

But overall there is still alot to be made..just got to make more moves instead of sticking to one thing.

:thumbsup

If something is going on, there's only one thing for sure: you cannot do anything to stop it. So my best advice is to act smart and cash from what others do not do :)

Those are some very good points.

The only problem is that one legged midget tranny grandmas are getting harder and harder to find to videotape! (And they know it too! They want a BUNDLE for just one hour's work!)

slavdogg 11-30-2004 11:30 PM

our adult biz is at all time highs
yesterday nov 29th was the record day accross the board

hmm

best november ever, best month all year, every day beat the previous.

:2 cents:

Tat2Jr 11-30-2004 11:52 PM

November was very good to us. It all boils down to having exclusive content. I have personally shot all my own content since 1997, and only shoot niches that I know, and understand.

I don't know what the economy in Canada is like or how many of your customers are American or not, but it is fallicious to take an experience in one industry and apply it to the whole economy. You're trying to apply a micro-economic problem to a macro-economic situation and it's simply apples and oranges.

America's GDP was up last quarter by 4%, and all indexes are up and have been steadily so for every quarter since the 4th quarter of 2001. Our economy IS recovering, albeit slowly, but it is recovering.

Walmart reported that sales were only up by 1% from the previous year. Oh darn, only 1% growth. The year before that sales were only up by 2% from the year before that. I'll get worried when they start reporting that sales are down from the previous year, and that has yet to happen in my lifetime.

Consider this, perhaps people are unsubscribing so that they can pay for presents for their family and friends. Does this seem to happen every year? What about other reporting the best November on record? Are they fucked up and your experience is the true reflection of an entire economy?

Actually in times of economic crunch, the typical demographic for this industry spends more on escapist pasttimes like drinking or online porn than they do in better times...

X-mas shoppers are starting later and later. My mainstream stuff is running right on track with last year and we lost some key domains.
