Can someone explain how I have over 200,000 hits from a certain domain...

...but they are not an affiliate and claim they have no links up to one of our sites? They are in the toplist of referers, from a login.php page on another paysite. The operator of the site says she has no clue, that maybe her members are leaving her site and typing in mine or they have bookmarks to mine.

Over 200.000 hits is less than two weeks, and ideas?

Thanks,
Bill

Maybe those people are getting yours and her site off of a password list site?

Didn't think about that one.

Also another note, my referer logs were not rotected for a few days until I discovered this.

No, the url is like this...

http://www.deleted.com/login/login.php

Intrigue 10-30-2004 07:22 PM

I'm about 90% certain that a browser will not send a 'referrer header' unless that site somehow refers them (link, redirect, etc..) I've never had to think about it, but i'm pretty sure it doesn't just send the last page you were on :2 cents:

http://www.deleted.com/login/login.php <<-------This is what is in my stats if that helps, but there is no visible sign of a link or anything on that site, not even in the member area (according to the site owner) to my site.

goBigtime 10-30-2004 07:37 PM

ref spamming you maybe.

Alex 10-30-2004 07:39 PM

Runs what? "deleted.com"? That was an example used, I deleted the actual domain in question.

Is there any way to prove that is what is happening?

ahh okay.

I thought it was deleted.com
I know that guy.

Sama 10-30-2004 07:45 PM

Maybe they are using your content within their members area? Is your content marked with your domain name?

Ok, sorry I wasn't more clear about it before...lol I should have made it more obvious.

I thought that also, and not all of my content is marked. It's another single-girl site involved, so the traffic is right for the site, but they would make much more in return if they just signed up...lol

Yup, it sounds like refbombing to me.

Why? I have no idea. Maybe somebody who doesn't like you or the other site and wants to make trouble or at least fuck up your stats.

Check other info in your logs/stats like IP(same or lottsa proxies), header etc to help determine if it is indeed spoofing the refs. :glugglug

The same thing happens to me, (not the same site but other paysite member log in url appearing to link to mine) I'm with nationalnet and the tech guys there, said basically it was brute force attack with a spoofed url

Yeah, I would say check log files for the same IP. You may even need to block the entire IP block.

One other thing no one pointed out. Is someone mass spamming your site?

If the domain showed 'links' to your domain it's possible your stats program / script is counting it over and over.

Why they would spam your Email? I dunno.

AdminShop sells evil software for evil people who like money. Shame on them.

Of course, I am an ass, so I probably will continue to provide tools that help other people make money by cheating and being generally dishonest. We'll see though, because there is BIG money in helping other people rip people off!

I have a theory.
Along time ago I had some paysites that would get a shitload of hits from other paysite members areas. At first I thought the other members areas were stealing my content. I came to the conclusion that we were listed on the same refferer spoofing program. One after the other. I Know it was not password sites because we had great password sharing protection with proxy pass.

Same here with the password control, that's why I strongly believe it's ref. spam.

Not ref spamming, Ref Spoofing. Is the members area using refferer protection?
