What would you do if the Bank did the fallowing mistake?

So I go to ask this 400$ money order...

and I check my account details online and I saw that they ADDED me the 400$ funds instead of taking it out of my account...

so right now they just PAID me 400$, cuz the lady of the bank is a dumbass

should I go and tell them they made a mistake? or try to let it pass and hope they don't see it?

KRL 10-15-2004 05:04 PM

They'll catch it eventually anyway.

Yeah, if you spend the money they'll make you repay it. Best to just tell them they made a mistake. :2 cents:

Nick_Moneymaker 10-15-2004 05:09 PM

They'll catch that very quickly. They have procedures in place just for that sort of deal.

DickShoke 10-15-2004 05:10 PM

i would let them know...they will find out about it sooner or later...plus you don't want to mess with financial institutions.

Jay_StandAhead 10-15-2004 05:11 PM

Yep, AND..... if your account goes negitive when they take it back, they'll charge you overdraft fees as well.... fuckers :1orglaugh

Gynecologist 10-15-2004 05:24 PM

99% chance they will catch it because at night the entire business day gets an internal audit.

Vitasoy 10-15-2004 05:36 PM

Yes tell them or else they might penalty you.

Don't say a word, but keep the 400 ready in case they do catch it (and chances are they will).

Sosa 10-17-2004 06:51 PM

be nice and tell em :)

jawanda 10-17-2004 06:53 PM

Well, if they credited your account $400 AND gave the $400 money order, then they really gave you $800!

I have a friendly relationship with the people at my bank, and would definitely let them know. It can be handy being on good terms with your bank.

If you don't care about that though, I see little downside to just waiting and seeing. I agree that it seems very likely they'll catch it pretty quick, but if you keep an $800 balance in your account for when it happens, they'll just correct the error. And there is that slim, slim chance that they won't find the error.

pornguy 10-17-2004 07:08 PM

I would tell them and ask for a reward for being honest.

FlyingIguana 10-17-2004 07:09 PM

don't touch that money for a year. if they don't correct it then consider it a gift for years of raping you with various bank bullshit.

all banks suck shit in canada, seriously need american competition to make them a bit more customer focused. but thats another story.

bringer 10-17-2004 07:29 PM

rob the bank at gunpoint
wait, what was the question agian?

Luc 10-17-2004 08:18 PM

i had a thing where i deposited $5k in checks and the dumb
bitch punched in an extra 0 and my deposit slip said $50K.

my account showed the $50k extra for a few days and then
disappeared.

bummer.

steve90 10-17-2004 08:20 PM

They will find out about it eventually

xclusive 10-17-2004 08:25 PM

bank accounts give interest?

psyko514 10-17-2004 08:35 PM

The mistake will be corrected by week's end.

If it's not corrected in 30 days, I believe you're entitled to keep it.

Slick 10-17-2004 08:45 PM

Just watch your mail. I know that when either I mess up on my deposit slip or the bank does, they mail me a correction slip within a day or two.
