OMFG very dumb move by gov shwarzenegger !!
No Smoking in Prison!
Tue Sep 28,11:27 AM ET Oddly Enough - Reuters SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Reuters) - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites), who set up a tent outside his smoke-free state office to accommodate his taste for a good cigar, signed a bill barring tobacco from state prisons. The measure, signed Monday, amends the state's penal code to bar tobacco products from prisons and youth correctional facilities. Violators are subject to a fine. Supporters say the changes will help save the state money on health care and improve the health of 160,000 state inmates. Some parts California's criminal justice system such as county jails have already banned smoking. The state generated about $1 million in tobacco taxes and $370,000 in sales taxes by selling tobacco products to inmates last year. Bill sponsor Tim Leslie, a Republican assemblyman, estimates that about half of California prisoners smoke, costing $280 million in related health care costs. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp..._nm/smoking_dc health wil improve , but I see some inmates getting VIOLENT ! very violent :warning |
Humm ......You think theres gonna be major problems here :helpme
|
They did that here too, talk about cruel and unusual punishment.
|
I also would see an increase in jailrapes ! I mean some guys are going to go ballistic if they can't smoke anymore
|
That is quite harsh...
|
good move...you are in prison you shouldnt be smoking like a free person
|
Banned smoking = Increased HIV infections.

It's fucking prison. They SHOULDN'T be allowed to have smokes in the first place.
|
omg the prisoners are going to be restless. I know when I dont smoke, i get in a very bad mood.
|
damn.. i bet its about to get fucking crazy in cali prison now
|
wow did you know a good number of CA prisions ALREADY had a no-smoking rule?
|
Sorry coming from New Orleans and hearing stories of Angola State Pen out in the sticks and traveling to Cali and seeing some of the jails I have no remourse. My x's mom is a lawyer and brought me to her office one day inside some government buildings, I was taking pictures of buildings for a project I was working on and I snapped one and the next thing I know "mom" is running over and taking the camera. I asked her what gives and she says, turn around and walk away. She then informs me that this prestine building was a jail and it was illegal to make eye contact, wave or signal them in any way or take pics of the building. I just laughed, they were in these pretty big rooms with a nice view of the park with ac vents and televisions watching cable and wearing street clothes. I had no idea it was a prison, those guys have it relatively easy.

fuck em, their prisoners. why should they get to do what they want. Dont like it? stay the fuck outta prison.

If you're in prison, you shouldn't have the privileges of a free man. There should have never been smoking in prisons in the first place. :2 cents:

Fuck em... prison is a form of punishment. So unless there in death row of something they shouldn't be allowed a smoke.
|
Smoking is a privlidge and not a right. It's like grounding your kid and letting them play video games.
|
wow lots of ignorant replys in here
|
Cigarette trafficing will go up 100%
|
no way!! that will cause huge riots!
|
I actually think this is a very good move since a lot of people will stop smoking totally .
|
They should not be allowed to smoke anyway and then relie on the taxpayers to pay their healthcare bills....
|
Nice.
Arnie is da man. |

You being a taxpayer (assuming you DO pay your taxes), this is all that you should be worried about: "Bill sponsor Tim Leslie, a Republican assemblyman, estimates that about half of California prisoners smoke, costing $280 million in related health care costs." |
NO smokes in Ontario provincial ...thats old news buddy
|
In 1997 Minnesota banned smoking in prisons which affected 5000 inmates.
As of July all Federal Prisons went to non smoking which affected 180,000 inmates. 38 states are now non smoking. I have not heard of any huge riots, nor can i find any evidence of riots resulting from a prison banning smoking. I think this thread is ridiculous. Please tell me why a person who has committed and been convicted of a crime has the same rights as a person who has not. If you want to be able to smoke dont break the law and go to jail. |
No :stoned means alot of angry Prison Inmates :feels-hot DO I hear a Prison Riot?:BangBang:

I'm for giving them all of the drugs and tabacco they desire in that they forfeit their full heathcare benefits.
In my state, it costs an average of $48,000 per year to house, feed, doctor, and babysit each prisoner in our prisons. Most honest, law-abiding people could not afford to live there even if they wanted. :1orglaugh |

If they can smuggle in drugs, they can smuggle in a pack of cigs. |
Fuck em, they already pass out pills like candy.

except we know for a fact that doing this shit to inmates causes bloody riots and makes them impossible to control. Just like with their religious bullshit and with Iraq, conservatives act like they live in some fucking fairy tale world where everybody reads the bible and 'getting tough' with people always fucking works. In reality, it rarely does and this is a stupid, STUPID thing to do. |

putting everyone on lockdown, is an easy way to get 100% compliance from everyone the simple freedom of being able to go ouside is all they need to keep them in check...no one wants to spend ten years inside one little room |
good place to get that addiction removed from your body :thumbsup

What are guys going to trade for stabbings and blowjobs now?

Prison is punishment. It's not supposed to be fun or comfortable. They need to have nutritious but bland food, nothing but milk & water, NO T.V., no smokes, no candy, no personal property with the exception of personal hygiene items. Most prisons right now are more like dorms and don't really serve as an effective punishment or deterrent.
When you become a prisoner, your freedoms should be gone. You should not be able to dictate how you will behave. Violence from the inmates should be met with more violence by the guards and loss of even more freedoms instead of increasing the prisoners rights and privileges. |

Who knows, it might reduce crime as it's just another reason for people not to want to go to jail. :2 cents:
