What to do with a kid that has dyslexia and ADD?

need some advice to give to a friend...

his brother probably has dyslexia and ADD or ADHD

ElvisManson 09-21-2004 07:46 AM

take him to a shrink that specializes in treating kids with ADD.

I happen to have ADHD and be Lysdexic. There is medication that can help, but more than that understanding the underlying issues will help your friends family cope.

How old is your friends brother?

how old is his brother? there is a lot that can be done for both of those things. special tutors for the dyslexia, medication for the adhd and if the medication route is not for him change in diet and other things can be done.

I had ADD when I was younger. My mom changed my diet (took out sugar, preservatives, food coloring, stuff like that) to keep me from having to take meds. Also keep him active in sports / activities. Too many parents are lazy and opt for drugs which fucks a kid up more in the long run.

In regard to dyslexia, I'd think it's just a matter of finding an educator who can help train him to read the right way.

what he said...I was dyslexic and all it took was a caring teacher and some learning tests. I found out what ways I learned the best and changed my environment.

ADD can be helped just by changing the diet. Too much sugar is harmful for a child with ADD. Whatver you do, don't turn to drugs. Keep them active in sports:thumbsup
