Show some class and cut the guy some slack if its only been a week. Hope is that he doesn't go postal. He could be going through some hard emotional times. I would have suggested leaving the bar and going somewhere else.

Try to befriend the guy. Seriously. If you appear sympathetic, it will soften the blow for him and it will humanize your relationship. You won't be "that bastard who is fucking my ex" but instead "the decent guy who is now with my ex." If the guy is violent at all, his anger will now be directed at her, not you.

Just remember someday after you've spent thousands on her YOU'LL be the guy watching her with some other guy a day or two after she leaves you.
