A less than original Rant by Platinum Ellise

So I have been losing sleep. Not because of anything really traumatizing but I am just royally frustrated at seeing how some people choose to be....

Here is my problem... I don't like people that go back on their word. I hated it when I was a kid, I hated in high school and I have discovered a whole new dislike for it here in the working world.

When my father did business years ago in Europe it was all done on a handshake and a verbal agreement. None of those men ever broke their word to my father, nor did my father to them. They are still working off of that same hand shake from 26 years ago.

I think it is sad that in this day and age lengthy agreements with every possible loophole covered need to be put together before we can proceed and even then they are not always solid or binding.

So what is my message? My point to this lil' tirade?

If you make a deal with someone verbally or on paper follow it through to the best of your ability. If you are unable to because of changed circumstances sit with the person you made the deal with and try to work around it. Don't make a rash decision that benefits only you at that moment in time. It will come back to bite you in the ass. Particulary in this industry where your business associates are in many cases also your close friends.

Have the backbone to stand by your word and the courage of your convictions and you will always succeed. When you look out only for number one....as important as that is... there are often natural and logical consequences to that decision.

Okay I am done. And I feel better. Thank you.

i could not agree more with you, i hate it when people don't live up to the their word....then what is worse is when they ignore you and the problem..

Princess Ellisa 08-30-2004 11:54 AM

LoL Charlie you are too funny... it is of course not that that has upset me. You followed through with it and let me know what was up!

Odie 08-30-2004 11:54 AM

oh boy...I knew I was supposed to do something today!!:winkwink:

Hope your day is going well!!

and yes you are so right Ellisa. Nothing worse than spending time with someone on a deal and then having them not follow through with it or take FOREVER getting it done!!:BangBang:

Or worse yet in order to feel better about their poor handling of the situation they convince themselves it is your fault LOL

That particular deal referred to the rights to distribute a product to prevent black ice from forming on the roads for all of the US and Canada.

You are right he was lucky I just think it is funny how 30 odd years ago my dad took that chance, but if you asked him to do the same tomorrow I know he would want it all on paper just because of the way things are now.

Sort of an inevitable transition I guess...but still sorta sad.

modF 08-30-2004 12:13 PM

Well spoken Ellise! Get your sleep though, karma is a real mother... :)

Michael O 08-30-2004 12:16 PM

Its really sad how things are twice I trusted someone in this business doing a lot of work for them with one I managed to get most my money but it took a long time and a lot of hassle second time never saw a dime.
Learned my lesson and donīt trust anyone no matter who they are.

Alright Ellisa, I'll send traffic to Moms Need Cash and Reality Porn Pass. BTW Great work on those sites good job.

And feel better, unfortunately the world has changed, people do go back on their word, except for people like Tony Montana, usually if they promise they will kill you or hurt you in some way it will happen. If people's business relied on their word, there would be many out of business and stocks would be tanking.

As I have posted here before the 5 business rules

1. Trust No One
2. Believe Nothing
3. Sex Makes You Stupid
4. If it looks like a skunk smells like a skunk but portrays themself as a flower it probably IS A SKUNK
5. Any decision made out of emotion is a WRONG decision

There and I am sure some GFYers could concur my rules!

Take Care Ellisa, Ill send some puggy love to you from the Monty!

I find that a lot of the people I have verbal agreements with eventually come around.

Most of the time it's because they don't remember everything and need to be reminded what they promised. :)

One of the down sides of mixing business with pleasure.

PeerPatrick 08-30-2004 01:21 PM

i was just talking about the same thing with an IM buddy, last vegas I got an end of the meeting hug and hand pump(non sexual) with this program owner saying he was so glad we are doing business, and said contact $%%^ then right after the show, it was like dodge city ghost town. no replies, online ICQ but no responses. i felt like an x-girlfriend stalking them for a week before i gave up. funny, kinda. ok not at all funny and more like suck.

Call me.

HammerALL 08-30-2004 01:28 PM

Your are so right Ellisa- it seems people like to lie and cheat there way to the top. It is especially frustrating when people do that in the guise of friendship and co-operation - when all they are looking out for is themselves. This will help them in the short run - but the main thing is that these people are inevitably figured out - They tarnish their own reputation without the need for anyone elses involvement. Well at least that is what I hope - Karma is a funny thing - and it has a way of sneaking up on people. We are all faced with people who are inconsiderate, self involved, and detrimental to everyone around them. But like any other parasite - they usually have short life spans.
