Proof of???? :winkwink:

Well if US athletes did well - good luck to em!

Since a fair number were trained by European coaches, reckon they deserve some credit as well..

Now.. about "dominating the world".... :1orglaugh

zentz 08-29-2004 06:47 PM

we are happy with the gold in handball :winkwink:

Theo 08-29-2004 06:54 PM

accordingly if Cuba had the population of USA they would get about 780 medals.

No !!! Depends if they take same "product" during trainning.

Zerof8 08-29-2004 07:12 PM

Damn everybody says they hope America loses and then somebody makes a post about America dominating the olympics and you all fly off the handle. Relax it is sports. Although America does dominate the world just look around........
:2 cents:

kemp 08-29-2004 07:16 PM

Anyone have the count of american citizens that won medals for other countries? I saw two competitors in the 400m hurdles (I think it was that event) that were born, grew up in , and were trained in the US. Yet one competed for Panama, the other for the Dominican Republic.

The Gold medal went to the guy from California - or the Dominican Republic :P

I bet if you count all that kind of traitor shit in the US would have 15 times as many medals as Australia.

USA - 35
EUROPE - 132

who is your daddy ??

Rochard 08-29-2004 07:20 PM

I'll be willing to bet that if you compared that list to what each country spent in training...... It would match pretty damn close.

By that logic we should be able to count Mexico, Canada and all of South America and then we would still be your daddy

I love my country, and I agree that we dominate the world in many ways (not all of them good), but we also have a lot of athletes that came from other countries to ours because they didn't like the conditions in their own country. Keep that in mind.

Total USA medals: 103
Total GB medals: 30

Population of USA: approx 280 million.
Population of GB: approx 60 million.

So who has the best athletes? Do the maths (yes, "maths" not "math" - if you're going to steal our language then at least learn to use it properly ) - if you got beaten by us Brits then you got destroyed by a lot of other countries :winkwink:

keep in mind that there are citizens of the US that do go back to their home country and participate for them...

This occurs in many countries. An Australian won a gold medal for Austria in these games for instance.

So you think it's fair to compare the medal tally of a country with 300 million inhabitants to a country with, say, 20 million inhabitants?

i guess from now on, we gotta look at the size of the country participating when someone wins a medal.

yes
using your logic, any country with a smaller population then the us should have no medals and we should have them all. arent americans fat lazy slobs who eat mcdonalds all day? if thats the case it should be no problem to beat us at any sport...

So it's no advantage to have 15 times the population from which to draw on for your Olympic team?

You also have to take into account the number of events participated in.

since we have so many more to pick from we should win every medal

That doesn't make any sense.

China has four times your population.

Sure it gives them an advantage, but it doesn't mean they'll perform and win medals.

You really don't grasp these simple concepts do you?
