almost all my furniture (except my bed, dresser, desk and one couch) is from ikea. a whole shitload of knick knacks too (utensils, glasses, bar equipment, towels, tupperware, etc) and i've never had a problem with any of it.

Doctor Dre 08-20-2004 11:08 AM

It's definitly cheap ... if you don't move it arround too much there is no problem thought

hottoddy 08-20-2004 11:16 AM

Cheap laminate covered particle board is what makes IKEA's founder rich. 80% of what they sell is simply dressed up sawdust. Do you know moving companies won't even insure particle board furniture? It crushes into powder at the slightest impact. I avoid the stuff like a plague.

There are some true deals at IKEA but you have to look hard. I try to get the "real wood" stuff - even if it's cheap wood like pine or poplar. At least you know it should survive a move.

Yup I should not have moved it by myself! Lets not even talk about the bed!!! I wish I could say the legs broke for other reasons but the truth is I moved that by myself as well!

I dont buy furniture from Ikea but I love some of their rugs, dishes, vases and crazy kitchen gadgets! They have the best storage solutions.

Shannon G 08-20-2004 12:54 PM

My friend, you just get to strong off your "beer muscles"!!! Leave the lifting to the guys... we'll stick to drinking and making $$ :glugglug

A lot of there stuff is so cheap... it's always breaking on me. Even kitchen stuff... I had a can opener that the handle broke off after like 5 cans. I bought it because it looked good and strong since it was all stainless steel. HA!

Maybe you didn't put it together great? Thats the main downside of buying that stuff...

Basic_man 08-20-2004 02:33 PM

I'll never buy IKEA's shit! :2 cents:

Firehorse 08-21-2004 02:59 AM

I bought a house full of IKEA shit 18 years ago when I bought my first house. I never had a problem with it, but I don't like the quality. :2 cents:

samuel 08-21-2004 03:18 AM

Ikea is not good at everything, I have heard about realle good things they have, but also about furnitures problems..

samuel

Jensen 08-21-2004 05:57 AM

Jakke PNG 08-21-2004 05:59 AM

I have a bed from ikea and it has stayed intact regardless of the heavy load and excessive usage.

EscortBiz 08-21-2004 05:59 AM

yup you always get what you pay for

my friend got some desks there took him a few months to put together

one day they will sell you the tree and include a manual how to build a desk out of it

If you put too much clothes in, it sometimes breaks the bottom

wyldblyss 08-21-2004 06:11 AM

A lot of people I know just love their stuff. I have not bought any furniture from them though...I tend to shy away from the cheaper stuff as I worry about the quality of it. I would rather just save up and buy something of very good quality. I think it saves me money in the long run.

PRETTYONE 08-21-2004 06:13 AM

When I lived in LA, I used to love going there and checking out all the stuff- bought a few items and never had a problem. I wish we had one where I live, I would be there all the time!

Sorry about your furniture though!!

Tuna 08-21-2004 06:54 AM

ive never had any problems with anything from ikea.

dirtyone 08-21-2004 08:17 AM

And I wasn't the only slave to my nesting instinct. The people I know who used to sit in the bathroom with pornography, now they sit in the bathroom with their IKEA furniture catalogue. ~Chapter 5
