Carly Patterson, a true story
 

For those who don't know, Carly Patterson just won the all-around gymnastics title and she'll soon be on every Wheaties box at the supermarket. In 20 years, her name will be as familiar as Mary Lou Retton's name is today.

I happen to know a girl on the national team who trained with Carly at Martha Karolyi's camp (it's Bela's ranch, but his wife is in charge of running special camps several times a year). Apparently, Carly is a very nice girl, but she's quite naive in some areas of life. Here's a convo she had with my buddy:

Carly: What's a VD?
Friend: A venereal disease.
Carly: What's that?
Friend: A sexually transmitted disease, Carly.
Carly: How can you catch that?

I finished watching it a little while ago and it was amazing. I tried very hard all day to keep from hearing the results on tv/radio before I watched it because I didn't want it to be spoiled.

Dude, the meet has been over for like 10 hours. In other news, Michael Phelps has won several gold medals. Am I ruining the swimming competition as well now?
