i have a box with servermatrix, but its not a unmetered cogent box
ive peaked at 9.9mbps for 28 hours straight with 1 drop off to 8.4mbps for about 20min great speed and support and a nice admin system aside from whatever you install on your server. |

If it suits you need go for it. Servermatrix is big enough to be able to afford many 20 mbps customers maxing out their lines, and won't need to get nasty because their overselling biz didn't work out. When someone oversells I look at the size of the company and the # of customers they have. The more, the better even extreme overselling works (I would not even call this one extreme overselling)
AFAIK the 20 mbps are NOT on their usual network but get 100% cogent. I have nothing against cogent, they can be very good - if servermatrix doesn't oversubsribe their cogent line It is a 20 mbps cap so it is not suited for sites with heavy ups and downs in traffic but you already knew that |
Yes, they are a big company and that is why I am interested. So far nobody has tried their 20 mbps servers :(
|
never had any problems with servermatrix. They are very good :thumbsup
|
20mbps = 6TB/month. for 250$
I checked a shitload other hoster and the best deal I found was: 1.2TB/250$/month. So I can't believe that there isn't something wrong. |
* MatriXtreme Servers operate independently of The Planet/ServerMatrix network.
* MatriXtreme Servers utilize Cogent? bandwidth. http://www.servermatrix.com/unmetered.html#mx28 |
If servermatrix can't pull this off, noone can. Servermatrix is HUGE and has the name to back it up. I have alot of boxes at servermatrix and they give what they advertise. That 20mbit deal is ideal for mpeg submitters.

What's their spam policy like? Not email spam, but shit like say friendster spam. Would they can an account if they got enough complaints from friendster users for example?

Hope to find a few more users with their opinions. :) |

Quote from FAQ:
"What is the charge for going over the allotted bandwidth? The cost for bandwidth overage is $0.50 per GB." That's pricey, fun times if you have submitted tons of movie galleries, and then you get accepted to all the big 'uns at the same time.... :2 cents: |

If there are overage charges then it is not unmetered. Does anyone know what is the story with this? |

look at http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...81#post5044881 (dont feel like Retyping everything). How can you you sell bandwith for $13 a meg |
I have a few points I would like to make first.
Servermatrix is a stand up company. They provide a good network with awesome reliability. They make money off of "additional" charges like special installs or custom requests. So if you need them to do something they will charge you $75/hr and want 1 to 3 hours to do it. Cogent bandwidth is budget bandwidth. In the early days of the net all the "resellers" greatly oversold this to make serious coin. Couple this with routing hardware and protocols constantly being refined caused great strain on the Cogent infastructure. And resulted in down time and heavy packet loss. With new GigE connections and router protocol and hardware it has changed. I personally don't use any Cogent network in my dealings but have noticed when servicing my clients who are on a Cogent network now. THIS HAS CHANGED. It is almost like night and day on the Cogent network now. Still seeing some slow traceroutes but not to bad. Would not recommend it for game servers or streaming but for file serving I might consider it. :2 cents: Note: I currently use Voxel.net's http://www.voxrox.com and love it! Duel Opteron is amazing!!!! |
now that's a damn good deal

Early days? I didn't know about Cogent until 2-3 years ago. Anyway, everyone said they wouldn't last and they are still here. They have improved allot............. That is why big hosting companys are using them now. They are not even the cheapest anymore. |
cogent bandwidth for life!!1

If you're not that serious about your biz, going on cogent wouldn't be a big deal. But if you make a decent amount of money at this, going on cogent would be a bad idea (I guess if you're making money you don't even need to think about going down this road). |
