i mean, if i talk to people in english, would they understand me ? i dont want to learn a new language.

Diligent 08-11-2004 03:52 PM

DarkJedi: basically all people, younger than ~60, here in Scandinavia have no
problems with the language.

We begin learning english in school at around age 10 and up to age 15 minimum.

Adding popular culture, with english on TV & the internet, on top of that...
people will even be able to speak back to you! :thumbsup :glugglug

They speak English everywhere.

Jakke PNG 08-11-2004 11:12 PM

Yeah, we mostly speak english. Labret lived here for a while and he said he didn't learn the language because everyone spoke english. He didn't have to learn it.:)

I don't think you have any difficulties if you only speak english.

.. this place is expensive and has horrible taxes and 9 months of nasty weather. Welcome.

Thats cool.. I hate travelling to places where there is a huge language barrier. I guess I'll have to head out that way one day. :)

About 3 months out of 12, yes.
Even though this summer has sucked ass.

nige 08-12-2004 06:07 AM

And paying about 40 % in taxes isn't that nice either.

A good thing about the weather is that during the autumn and winter you'll get a lot of work done, there's nothing else to do. :)

DarkJedi, are you seriously thinking about moving to Finland? If so, where to exactly? Helsinki?

i'm sure there are ways around that.

but weather is the main drawback. i dont really like cold.

More Booze 08-12-2004 07:29 AM

I would never move to scandinavia, its just to cold and the summer is to short.
Taxes are high as hell...

I think staying in Scandinavia from May to September is a very pleasent experience. Have done it myself many times.

The Winter is also nice, with Skiing and Ice-skating. Oktober-November is not so fun though.
