Best place to relocate to in EU?

Im leaning towards Czech Republic. How's the cost and standard of living there?

Hosting-Quote 07-19-2004 06:46 AM

Prague looks like an awesome place to live (beer is cheap) although from what I've seen prices are on the rise :(
Considored latvia or Sofia (bulgaria)?

margarita 07-19-2004 06:46 AM

Why did you choose Czech rep. if you don't know how it ?
Where do you live now ?

korggg 07-19-2004 07:06 AM

go to Spain
you'll have the sun, the beaches, the palm trees, the girls in bikini, life is cheap... there is no better place for quality of life than Spain

^^^^if you've never been there then go!! I would love to move there...been thinking about it for a while now.:thumbsup

Roald 07-19-2004 07:32 AM

I am considering to move to spain myself. The climate is way better than in Holland, weather- AND taxwise. Besides that the country is pretty nice and living is just a bit cheaper than here.

sperbonzo 07-19-2004 07:59 AM

I was just in Prague last week for a couple days, meeting with a bank there. I've traveled/lived all over the world, and I have to say that I completely fell in love with the place. I'm already making plans with friends of mine that live there to buy a place so that I can go a month at a time. It completely blows away anywhere in western Europe IMHO.:2 cents:

The city is beautiful, prices are very low, girls are beautiful and very friendly (but you need to learn some Czeck).....altogether an amazing place...

The ONLY downfall is that the British tourists are completely obnoxious.... They treat Prague like the Americans treat Tijuana.... A cheap place to go on the weekends, where they can get drunk and rude, run around yelling and screaming, and throw up on the streets.

Other than that....all I can say is. I will own a little flat by the center of town by the end of the year:thumbsup :thumbsup

sjoerdv 07-19-2004 08:54 AM

Holland to live and regular trips to Berlin for parties and France for food and sun.

Prague is a very long way from being considered a cheap place to go at the weekends by the British. You're simply getting them mixed up with ALL 18-30 yr old British tourists in any European country. Unfortunately 18-30 yr old British treat any part of Erope that's not the UK the same. Hmmm...come to think of it Friday-Sunday they treat the UK the same too :D

I am Czech and live very close to Prague. I wouldn't move anywhere else, love my country and love Prague. I like the atmosphere just walking on the Charles Bridge or anywhere else in the historical part. The spring and summer here is awsome. The winter sometimes sucks but nothing to compare that I can pack my stuff and just go skiing for the mountains (only two hours far), everything is so close...... and if I decide to go to the beach, just drive my car down to Italy or to Croatia.

Another's city I really like to is Barcelona, Madrid (Spain), Rome, Venice, Verona (Italy) or Makarska Riviera (Croatia):thumbsup

I'm from California. Besides Prague, I'm impressed by Italy (Tuscan region) but it seems really expensive.

Mike Okitch 07-19-2004 10:27 PM

Gorgeous pics you found there Andrej. Say, what's the cost of living like in Bratislava and how much different is it from Prague? If you have any sites with that kind of info, let me know :)

Cheers,

Mike

Hey Mike,
the different from Prague is that Bratislava is not so big, but has the same old style combined with the newest shopping centers around the centre. About the costs of living, Im not sure how expensive Prague is, but for BA:
1 room apartment in a nice location: $400+/month
the prices can go down to $300/month for locations 20-30 min. from centre and up to $3000+ for luxury apartments in the old town or even better locations where you see the whole city from your balcony (on the hills around)
about the other prices, restaurants, shopping centers, theaters, cinemas, sport events, etc should cost the same like in other countries, of course depends where you want to eat :)

regards
Andrej

thats VAT not income tax

Theo 07-20-2004 03:24 AM

VAT is value added tax of products/services. Companies in EU pay the VAT upfront and then after X months they receive it back.
