My man just got mugged!
 

He just called me from his cell phone. He was downtown (Vancouver) and cut through an alley in the middle of the bright shiny morning. A girl appeared, asking for change. As soon as he put his hand in his pocket, a guy jumped out from behind a dumpster and punted him in the nuts!

So now my guy is wandering around downtown with bloody knuckles, hoping they don't come back with buddies, because the guy lost a few teeth and was limping pretty bad when he and his girl left the scene. The asshole even had a punchline! Right before he kicked, he said "Guess it's not your lucky day!"

I guess even Vancouver's alleys aren't safe any more. :(

No can do. He blacked out after he got punted and only snapped out of it when the girl started yelling "Stop hitting him!" I don't see any point to filing a report when he only has a charley horse in his leg, sore nuts and scraped knuckles. He feels awful about it. :( I figure that the guy took that risk on though. When you walk up to somebody and attack them, you don't know if they're a psycho Navy Seal or just some computer geek, so he took his chances.

That's horrible! Give him a big hug for me. :(

I know how he feels, had a similar thing happen to me a while ago. I was to shocked (and pissed) to do anything.

he got hit in the head with a piece of wood right outside of the bank machine he just withdrew from.

Trouble is he is crazy...he simply caught the stick in his hand the second time they swung, and took it from them, then beat them to a pulp as he put it..lol

It was simply a faster way to get to the other side of the block. He has never feared walking anywhere downtown before.

Never walk alone walking in alleys, theres some crazy ass people living downtown.

I'm sorry to hear about that Elli. I hope your hubby gets that cut cleaned up good, though, I'd think getting an open sore whilst kicking the shite out of alley scum is more worrisome than losing your wallet :(

Sorry to hear that happened. He needs to clean those wounds right away and maybe get to a hospital to talk about possible transmission from the muggers to him if there was a fight. Open wounds to bloody teeth can result in HIV and Hepatitis transmission in a small number of cases. Better safe, IMO.

I find that hard to believe! We were just in Vancouver in May for our honeymoon. We stayed at the Marriot Pinnacle downtown and did a lot of walking. Walking back from Gastown we considered cutting through an alley to get back to Hastings, but decided against it. Kinda scary folks lurking around there at night.

I guess I should feel lucky that my husband only got ripped off by one of those "I'm here from Australia and stuck here in town. I just need $20 US to get the bus to meet up with my friends. I promise I'll pay you back" scam. :)

I think I would phone in a report anyway, give a description. Might be doing it all day long and be in jail already, so you can go visit and rack his nuts a few times..

What exactly are the self defense laws in Canada? He says that he think he broke the guy's leg :( After he got sacked, he turned around with a roundhouse kick to the knee and after that the guy wasn't standing straight. :(

I was always under the impression that Vancouver is a pretty dangerous city.. I don't remember where I heard this, and I could be way off, but I remember hearing something like Vancouver has the highest crime ranking in Canada .. and one of the highest in North America.. (right behind LA, New York and Detroit).

Anyway I'm really sorry to hear that and I'm just glad your boyfriend was able to take him and it didn't go the other way.

The crime is like 98% auto theft, due to the port and the border. Violent crimes are extremely low, but increasing.

My Mum's going to visit Vancouver next year, I will tell her to carry her Magnum '45 with her. :glugglug

when you live in the city that is not always avoidable however I have a little trick..i used to live in the city in philly and I worked and went to school in North Philly(ghetto) I use to have to take the subway home in the middle of the night and walk through a scary ass alley as i walked home ,and i was a prime target..so i started to talk to myself alot and act as crazy as some of the nuts on the street..i fit right in and nobody bothered me..I also try to make alot of noise so people avoided me

Awesome! He shouldn't feel bad at all. This was the risk the guy took when he decided to strong arm somebody. I would have continued beating him yelling "WHO'S unlucky day? WHO'S unlucky day?"

I probably would have punched the girl a solid one in the face, too. And anybody who wants to give me that "hit a girl?!" crap...just don't, O.K. ? The bitch lost her "but I'm a girl!" pass when she set him up for a violent robbery.

In montreal I go pretty much anywhere without fear ... Dunno about vancouver but its not like there is places where you are more likely to get rob then another ... it happens rarely .
