how much can you bench?

i'm watching a rerun of american choper and the father just benchpressed 360 lbs:eek2

whats your max on a benchpress?

i post this knowing that i am asking a bunch of webmasters:1orglaugh

David! 05-31-2004 09:17 PM

When I work out, I go from 12 reps at 135 to 155 to 175 and finally i usually do 3 to 6 at 195. That's 3 times a week for chest.
I lifted 250 to fuck around, but lifting heavy weights a couple of times is not my goal :2 cents:

jdog31 05-31-2004 09:18 PM

i can;t do more then 165 maybe

AMADude 05-31-2004 09:20 PM

95 - 120 lbs but they need to be 18 or over and have at least a size 34 breast, then I can bench rep after rep after rep.
:1orglaugh

BV 05-31-2004 09:21 PM

I saw that it's crazy, he does 3 plates on each side and then adds another!

His arms and chest are very big though.

1 plate max 8 reps here, weak chest, gotta hit the gym again.

SteveLightspeed 05-31-2004 09:24 PM

I've been benching around 320 - 325 -- maybe 3:30, you know, whenever I get to the gym...

Lane 05-31-2004 09:26 PM

i probably couldnt bench my own weight

most i tried was like 185

170-180LB

I have seen 4 plates (a side) x 45lb being bench pressed at my gym...

XxShiznaughtxX 05-31-2004 10:10 PM

Let's see how much [Brian] can benchpress... :thumbsup

rounders 05-31-2004 10:13 PM

[brian] does 4 plates each side

rickholio 05-31-2004 10:15 PM

I do 3 x 12 @ ~135 (2x45lbs + olympic bar). I don't know how much my one time weight would be. I suspect I could probably do over 200 but haven't tried it.

It's been growing fast though... only went back into the gym seriously a few months ago and I was having a hard time doing 3 x 10 @ 100lbs. Feels good seeing my pecs starting to poke out some! :thumbsup

bringer 05-31-2004 10:15 PM

275

NikkiNevada 05-31-2004 10:19 PM

Oh, lets see...my max is 50 lbs! The bar with 2 1/2's on each side. :Graucho My legs are hella strong though, so they make up for it!

lets go workout sometime

Ic3m4nZ 05-31-2004 10:32 PM

I can bench around 220 for my most now for 6 reps (I'm a young bodybuilder).. but I can squat or deadlift way more than that. Squats and deadlifts are possibly the best 2 exercices.. How much you bench doesn't really matter there are a couple of bodybuilders who bench less than 200 lbs and they can almost be built like Coleman the man itself.

Ronnie Coleman unbelievable :

fr33pr0n 05-31-2004 10:35 PM

254 for a one time max. Pretty good for a skinny fuck like myself.

devilspost 05-31-2004 10:47 PM

285 bench for max after pyramid up
375 deadlift
workout 5-6 days
30min a day cardio to burn 433 cals

I am 39 years old 210lb killing machine:BangBang: :ak47: :winkwink:

ha, I could stand to loose 10-15lbs

and I am making up for 25 years of party hard live fast die young.

Downtime 05-31-2004 11:16 PM

my max is 235 right now, my goal is 260. you know my man George Bush benches 205 and can run a sub-7 min. mile?

Chaldoray 05-31-2004 11:18 PM

I am a bodybuilder myself i don't really bench.
I just do reps i do 5 sets of 6 235lbs

uridium 05-31-2004 11:30 PM

used to do 278 on 45 degree incline for 8 reps - always did flat bench for my second exercise so I was a little weaker by that stage. My bodyweight was 95kg .. height 5'11. Gotta get back into the gym !! grrr ...

Peter Romero 05-31-2004 11:31 PM

All time Max - 405 lbs.

Right now Max - about 365 lbs.

A friend asked me my formula awhile back so here goes:

Tip # 1 - Keep your back flat on the bench
Tip # 2 - Don't let your uper arm go lower than paralell to the floor.
Tip # 3 - Breathe... alot. It's all about maximizing your oxygen/Glycogen
Tip # 4 - warm up, but don't stay in the warm-up the whole workout. How can you save energy for your max when you are exhausted when you get there?
Tip # 5 - go slow. There is no momentum muscle in your body.
Tip # 6 - stretch alot & stay loose & relaxed for better blood flow or you'll bonk before the max again.
Tip # 7 - STAY STRICT WITH EXACT FORM. Nobody cares how much you lift except you - otherwise the gym would go outta biz without mirrors.
Tip # 8 - Change your workout every 28 days (4 weeks) to destroy Plateaus.
Tip # 9 - Did I mention to breathe? Timing your breathing, and getting full inhales & exhales can gain you massive strength.
Tip # 10 - Use a spotter on the heavy sets that you arent sure about... but don't let your spotter get a better workout than you. He's there just in case you are about to get strangled - not to give you a liftoff on the heavy stuff just to shock your body with the weight.
Tip # 11 - go heavy & Max 1 time a week, do an endurace workout once a week, and do push-ups once a week.
Tip # 12 - On the negative movement (downward) do a four count, posetive (upward) 2 count.

My Chest workout:
Flat Bench
Warm-up 12X 135 lbs
10X 185 lbs
6-8X 225 lbs
4-6X 275 lbs
2-4X 315 lbs
1-2X 365 lbs
1X 405 lbs
warm down: 15 seconds between sets
2-3 X 315 lbs
6-8X 225 lbs
(Super-wide grip)10-12X 135 lbs

Incline bench has less sets & less reps but Max around 275 lbs to 315 lbs.
Decline cable fly's 6 sets of 6-12 reps with 100 lbs each arm, and up to the whole stack on max days.

No. I've never taken steroids and graduated High School @ 125 lbs. Work hard, eat right, be patient & you'll get there - if I can, you can.

Rictor 05-31-2004 11:56 PM

I might be able to do 50 pounds if I try hard enough.

SoundMan 06-01-2004 12:00 AM
