as far as i know xp does not have that anymore. only the console. but i might be wrong.

have to use a boot disk as xp doesn't sit on top of dos like the older versions..

to get a new boot disk...

he's gonna need to make a boot disk in order to do that, http://bootdisk.com/ has all dos versions and other utils he might need

This is possable. Hit "F8" right at the point of starting to boot XP, then select "safe mode DOS prompt"

This I don't think you can do without a Floppy or CD, never tried it, but the command would be on the same drive you are formating.

Has he fixed the prob yet? A bootable CD will do just fine.

a cd works like a bootdisk, just make sure you have cd boot set in bios
