Former MP says he was beaten at Guantanamo

LEXINGTON, Ky. ? A former military police officer said Monday that he was severely beaten while posing as a detainee during a January 2003 training exercise at Guantanamo Bay.

Sean Baker, a former member of the 438th Military Police Company, said he played the role of a prisoner and was beaten so badly by four U.S. soldiers that he suffered a traumatic brain injury and seizures.

?I don't want this to happen to anyone else, what I'm living with daily,? Baker told WLEX-TV in Lexington.

Kentucky National Guard Capt. David Page, a guard spokesman, would not comment about Baker's specific claims.

?There was a training accident, after which he was medically discharged,? Page said.

Page confirmed that Baker was a former member of the 438th Military Police Company, based in Murray, Ky. He said Baker was with the unit when it was stationed at the naval base in Cuba, where the United States is holding detainees from Afghanistan.

Page referred further questions to the U.S. Southern Command in Miami.

In the interview, Baker said that as part of the training drill, he was given an orange detainee jumpsuit to wear and turned over to four soldiers. Baker said the soldiers beat and choked him, stopping when they saw he was wearing parts of an Army uniform.

They may well of killed him if they hadn't seen he was wearing parts of an Army uniform, but it would still be he was beaten to death and not tortured to death.

This may be not a big surprise for all here, but the USA has done enough to faces the entire World against their country. Do you know that most part of non-American citizens have much more sympathy to the Iraqis... Bush is getting compared with Hitler and all the US people are threaded as Nazi barbarians.

I know lots of very kind and good American guys and girls, but the things that USA do in Iraqi are really terrible...

what about when we repeatedly hold them under water until they're almost drowned, or attach electrodes to their balls or strip them naked and set dogs on them?

These aren't things I want my country to be involved with.

The difference being that when most people think of a beating, you think of someone getting beaten up... black eyes, broken nose, broken arm/leg etc... but you recover (atleast your body can recover).

A beating can have the same kind of pain level as torture but you would think that whatever is being done to cause the pain is being done repeatedly for hours, days, weeks or even months. Therefore torturing the victim far beyond the definition of a beating.

I was in the Marines for four years. I got the shit beat out of me more times than I can remember.

You need to remember that these people live in a very different world than we do. We sit behind computers all day long; They spend their free time on a rifle range so that when called upon they'll shoot to kill.

good that not all soldiers are like this.. but some of them should be in inside the jail and not outside..

and with the proper training, soldiers know the difference between war and the need to shoot to kill or die yourself and the real world where everyone is not a fucking nutter trying to kill you or just sat around waiting for trouble.

Yes the main point is that this incident is fucking crazy! completely unnecessary and should not of been aloud to happen, but going with the conversation in this thread about the incident.. the guy was seriously beaten, not tortured.
